Editorial. Things are a bit quiet this time of the year, it is often to cold or wet to get outdoors but some flying takes place every Friday night at Hazelwick. Dick James had these two models shown on the opening page, but of course could not fly them Holy Trinity Capers. The Committee have come up with some easing of the flying rules at Holy Trinity. For your information here are the new limits for Holt Trinity. For fixed wing models, up to 2200mAh 3s batteries, with no fast models. Beginners to fly with an experienced helper ready to take over, ideally on a buddy lead. It was recognised that buddy leads don't really work for helicopters and multi-copters, so beginners will be limited to a 2200mAh 3s battery and the helicopter area. After passing the PTFS test or BMFA A certificate they can fly up to a '500' sized helicopter (which uses a 6s 2500-3000mAh battery). The multi-copter limits may change when we see more in action. The Wally Barnes competition for static models takes place on 2nd April, at Holy Trinity Get those models out of the loft and give the regulars a run for their money. The usual Bring and Buy Sale will be the week after on 9 th April, while you are in the loft looking for models, sort out some junk that might be of use to someone else and bring it along. The Annual General Meeting held late last year was a well supported event with nearly 60 members present. Surprisingly there was little of the argy-bargy that often is heard at these meetings. Quite the biggest silence was heard when Kev asked for volunteers to join the Committee as several members will be standing down this year. The free tea and coffee was very welcome and appreciated by most of those present. ship remains healthy with about 90 paid up by the end of January. Mind the Lines My inbox is constantly filled with photos taken by Tony Satchel of models and members having fun on the Club Control Line field, The Grattons. I went there a couple of times last year and was surprised at the keen-ness and activity taking place. I know some of you RC ers probably started out with CL models (me when I was 11
years old) so why not have another go at it? No batteries to charge, none of those out of range problems and loads of noise and castor oil Dick Stepney has nearly finished another stunt model seen here at Hazelwick. Free-Flight Matters. Note the three bladed prop and out runner electric power unit. No activity reported in the FF field yet. A few years ago we used to have the Coupe D Hiver (Winter Cup) events in the winter when the model specification was composed to compete with the weather at that time of the year. Some of our members even went to France to compete in the International Event, amongst them Pete Cameron and Bill and Shirley Horton. The International Free-flight competition has sadly gone the way of many sports in that those with the money to buy foreign equipment, typically Eastern European or Russian ready built planes are the majority of competitors. This accounts for the interest in flying old or Classic models in contest for these types of plane in the more local events.
Dover s Green Flying. Wandering through the vast internet pages of servo suppliers I came across a servo tester, it was priced one pound 73 pence, post free from China. I bought two, one to use and one for another project I am working on. They arrived 11 days later. There are lots of goodies on ebay which I buy and come from China for a few bob and I have never had a dud one yet. (Outrunner motors, ESC s and folding props among them). Negotiations are proceeding with the Crawley Council for the use of the Buchan Kennels site for flying. If we do get permission it will mean a bit of work clearing some of the trees and bushes. Hazelwick. Flying in the ports hall is as popular as ever with Gary keeping a tight control over the slot timing. As many as 10 models can be seen drifting around during the lightweight RC slot. The hairier 3D is not so popular, probably due to the skill involved which Keith demonstrates superbly, although he did score an own goal in one of the basket ball nets recently I have flown FF there but a family commitment now prevents me from arriving before 8.45. To get a bit more flying in I asked Santa s little helper to get me a Tiger Moth 75 which I took along on Friday night. As a beginner in this mode I asked Keith to fly it first. He found it uncontrollable and it ended up trying to bury itself in the wall, damaging the motor/prop shaft. I took it home and repaired the motor but decided that the rudder circuit was not working as it should so contacted the supplier, Steve Webb Models. They asked me to return the model and I received a replacement within a few days. I took it to Hazelwick the following Friday and Keith flew it a couple of times. It was a steady flier, looking quite scale as it cruised around the hall. The K2 SE Area Indoor BMFA Meeting. This prestigious event takes place on the March 8 th with free-flight from 10 am till 5.30 pm. This is followed by RC flying until 8.00 pm. Special stickers are being provided by the BMFA who will also supply the Dusty Miller memorial trophy. Further details will be circulated. We are told by the K2 management that no other events are taking place on this date so parking will be available. Turbulator input. If you have any pictures or articles, particularly RC that we could put in the Turbulator please send them to me in any mode, email, snail mail or back of an envelope, it would help to spread the word.
