Enrichment is generally during class time and is for students who show a particular talent in an area. We are very lucky at our school to have a talented art teacher, Mrs Viki Chatterton. Below she is taking a group of talented artists from the Year 3/4 Maungarei Team. Donations can be sent to the school office until the 6th of April. If you need more ticket books to sell these are available from the office - don't forget there are prizes for the students who sell the most tickets in each year group. If anyone is interested in joining the PTA we would love to have some new faces on board. Many of the current core group have kids in year 7 and 8 this year so it would be great to have parents of younger students come along and learn the ropes. Maybe you don't want to come to meetings but would like to be put on the list to help with events? If this is of interest and you want to find out more please contact/email the office or comment on our Facebook page and we can message you back. LAST WEEK FOR SWIMMING THIS SEASON I am impressed to see the progress that all students have made with their swimming since the start of the year from Year 1 to the seniors. This is also reflected in the swimming results which have been the best I have seen since I started at this school. We have also had professionals in running the Swim for Life programme for Year 5 and 6 students. Here are some of the things our students have been saying: Swim for Life is a fun, extraordinary, exciting group of swimmers who help kids at school to learn to swim. I m in group 1 and really enjoy swimming at school. I m trying my best. Alix, Room 1 I like Swim for Life because you get to choose the team name. The Swim for Life instructors are really nice and funny and today they asked what we had for breakfast and I had two lots of Crunchy Nut Cereal. Luke, Room 1 I think Swim for Life is good to help us learn how to swim. When the instructors tell you what lesson to do they make it seem fun. If you completely don t know how to swim they will teach you how to swim. We have two groups. Group 1 is the group that needs a little more help and in group 2 you can do freestyle and many more things. Losa Room 8 I think Swim for Life is very helpful for people as it teaches them how to swim better to help other people if they need help. You can learn backstroke and many other things. There are two groups. Group 1 is the group that needs help with the boards. Group 2 is the group that doesn t use the boards. Alexus, Room 8 Swim for life is a fun, caring event that happens once a year for 2 weeks. They have kind instructors and are very helpful for people who are not so good at swimming. Swim for Life is a cool community and fun for children, so try it and you will think it s cool from what I am saying. Swim for Life is amazing. Ethan, Room 8 THE GIANT OPAHEKE SCHOOL FURNITURE SALE 21, 22 and 23 March at 2.30pm Due to the upgrading of furniture we have a large range of chairs, desks and tables for sale at a small cost. Room 9 Year 1 & 2 In Room 9 we have been focusing on maths. We are learning about Algebra and Relationships. We have been identifying patterns around us and patterns in numbers. In class we have been making patterns by drawing, using maths equipment and digital technology. Our class explored patterns to create and complete patterns. On the computer we completed a shape pattern by choosing different monsters to represent different shapes. Then we had to make the sequence. When the pattern was made, we could hear our pattern played and performed by the monster choir. Krystal Cooper Jade Ariana Here are the people who achieved Bronze certificates in Mathletics last week.
Room 4 Year 7 It has been a busy start to the year in Room 4. We started the year by getting to know each other and learning how we can work effectively with other people. We had an amazing EOTC week in week 5, with many students challenging themselves to face their fears and work as part of a team. We have also been working on becoming reflective learners. We have been looking at our progress in learning, but also our school dispositions, and the learning skills we need to work on next. We look forward to sharing more of our learning with you later in the year!
