International Concrete Repair Institute www.icricarolinas.org Carolinas Chapter February 2010 President s Message Jim Hadley SIKA Corp I would like to begin by saying thank you to all of our members for allowing me to humbly serve my 10th year on the Board as your President. Well, here we are it s 2010. Another decade has passed us by and the Carolinas Chapter has accomplished many great things over this past decade: 3 Chapter of the Year Awards (2 back-to-back); Hosted a National ICRI Convention; Held 3 Mega Demos; Developed a website; Initiated a Student Scholarship program; Created a Project of the Year Award program; Established a Member of the Year Award; Had our first member win a National ICRI Project of the Year Award; Established joint fund raising events with the Waterproofing Contractors Association; and Almost doubled our attendance at conferences. For our first event in 2010, the Carolinas Chapter is proud to host our second National ICRI Conference, which will be held April 14-16 in Myrtle Beach, SC. This National ICRI conference will also act as our Carolinas Chapter Spring Conference. The theme of this conference is Aesthetics in Concrete Repair and the list of technical speakers and topics are available at www.icri.org If you have never had a chance to attend a National ICRI Conference, I recommend that you take advantage of this unique opportunity. This will be a three-day event and includes technical committee meetings, you are welcome to attend as an ICRI member. These technical committees develop the guidelines that are used for specifying concrete repair procedures. If you are attending the entire conference, register at www.icri.org; if you can only attend one of the two chapter sponsored events (golf or the chapter reception), you will register with our chapter. Please reference the details and registration / sponsorship opportunities listed in this newsletter. Our Fall Conference will return to Charleston, SC on October 8-9, 2010 at the Marriott Courtyard in Mt. Pleasant. Last year s conference was held at this same location and was a huge hit with all the attendees. More information will follow on the theme for this conference. What Is ahead for us in this New Year? Our newsletter will now be distributed via email and will continue to be posted on the chapter website; The website will be re-worked to make it faster and easier to find information; A new Express Project of the Year submission form will be introduced to increase participation; Your Board of Directors is considering a Mega Demo interactive program for 2011 that would allow opportunities for both architects and engineers to prepare design solutions, and for contractors to demonstrate. As always we would want your feedback and suggestions, please drop us an email with your comments. Look forward to seeing everyone in April! Jim Carolinas Chapter Hosts National ICRI Conference Mark your calendars for April 14-16, 2010 to attend this conference at the Marriott Ocean Club Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. Arcadian Shores combines the best of Mother Nature with the best elements of a modern golf layout. Arcadian offers enticing lakes, deviously placed bunkers, tree-lined Bermuda fairways, and this distinctive contouring presents the ultimate golf challenges of man and nature. Lush Tifton Bermuda greens with 64 creatively placed sand bunkers and natural lakes woven in and out of the fairways, make this a challenge you will long remember. Designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1974, Arcadian Shores Golf Club accommodates any level of golfer and measures 6857 yards from the Championship tees. On Thursday evening, April 15th we will be hosting the ICRI Conference Chapter Reception and Party at the beautiful, oceanfront Ocean Club (next to the Marriott Grande Dunes) which will feature a Low Country Boil and four-hour party (dinner/dance/open bar reception) with live Carolinas beach music by the legendary shag band Billy Scott & the Prophets. Weather permitting, we will be outside around the pool deck, which has a great view of the beach and Atlantic Ocean. MORE BANG! FOR 2010 CHAPTER SPONSORSHIP This year provides a unique opportunity for you to be a sponsor of the Carolinas Chapter since you can get national exposure as well as chapter exposure. Since our chapter will be hosting the Welcome Party for the ICRI National Convention in April, as well as holding our traditional Fall Convention in Charleston, SC, you will get exposure to that national audience as well as our chapter audience. In addition, your financial support is needed more than ever. Hosting a National Convention is an honor and a privilege, but it is not an inexpensive proposition. Our chapter has distinguished itself as a leader in ICRI and we have set the bar high and while not holding a Spring Conference this year will have an impact on our revenue, this Board of Directors wants to afford all our members this rare opportunity to participate in a national conference in our own backyard. YOUR BUCK So we ask you to continue your generous support of the chapter and consider one of the four sponsorship packages offered by the chapter on the accompanying form and supported on our websites. Either checks or credit cards may be used and if it helps, you can split your payments. Just contact Sponsorship Chairman Mark Hollander at White Cap, or our Executive Director Kelly Andrews.
