CELEBRATING 18 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Denver Chapter - American Singles Golf Association July 2011 Message from the Prez Aside from all the fun we have in our local chapter on and off the golf course, I want to tell you ASGA would be well worth it just for the National events. Ten of us from Denver attended the Pinehurst golf outing over the Memorial Day weekend. $540.00 covered three nights lodging in a luxurious villa, meals, free drinks, dancing, hot tubbing, shuttle services, and two days of golf at two different famous and fabulous Pinehurst courses. What a deal! We also made many new friends and now have golf connections from San Diego to Savannah to Orlando. Please watch for future events and consider joining in on one of these special trips. Please show Golfsmith our appreciation by visiting the Park Meadows store again soon and often. They hosted a great party for us last week and we had 51 in attendance. Everyone got discount coupons, and most of us won door prizes too. They gave demos, served us pizza and drinks and had a putting contest which was won by Chip DeLapp. It was a great time. We have more fun coming up here for all of us. This Thursday 24 members will be playing at the exclusive Perry Park Golf Club in Larkspur for free. Lunch will also be included. This event is sponsored by Charter Financial Resources. It should be a beautiful day. Then on Saturday, our chapter is playing Raccoon Creek in Littleton. I m hearing rumors about another 9 & Dine in July so watch for details about that to be published on meetup.com/asgadenver. Then we have two big golf outings in July: Wellshire on Sunday, July 17 th, and a big weekend at Keystone on July 23 rd & 24 th. We met so many people at Pinehurst who said they wanted to come to Denver to play golf in the mountains that we re advertising this event nationally. Please thank our board members for all they do to organize events and keep everyone happy and coming back. They re all doing a fantastic job. Thanks Lloyd, Tom, Elliot, Cheri, Heidi, Janet, Harriet, Kathleen, Chip, and Bill/Jeff. These folks volunteer to make our chapter a success. Can you help us? Each committee and board position needs someone to mentor for taking the reins next year, so let us know if you re able to chip in and help. I m glad you re all part of our great group. ~Dawn Lindsay From the Golf Committee We are in the final stages of arranging for our Denver Chapter ASGA members to play at Raccoon Creek Golf Course on 25 June 2011. Presently, we have 32 members play in this outing. The golf course is a par-72 that plays between 5130 and 7045 yards depending on tee location. The established landscape provides some challenging elevations and water hazards for the experienced golfer, while the fairway designs can be used to make Raccoon Creek the perfect course for the firsttime golfer to learn how to play. Will be having some social time after our round in the courses Grove Restaurant, with views of the historic grounds nestled in the Rocky Mountain Foothills. Our next 18-hole golf outing will be held at Denver s Wellshire Golf Course on Sunday, 17 th of July 2011. This event is open for registration, with a registration cut-off of July 3 rd. We already have 17 members that are planning on playing. We have tee-time slots for 40 people. Wellshire Golf Club, located at 3333 South Colorado Boulevard, features an 18- hole regulation course, pro shop and two restaurants. Its layout winds through mature trees and the challenges on holes 12 through 14 are referred to by locals as "Amen Corner." Hope to see at least 40 members there on July 17 th. Then our next Denver Chapter ASGA 18-hole golf outing are indeed very special. We will be playing on both Saturday and Sunday at the Keystone Resort mountain courses. July 23 rd 2011 we will be playing on the River course, starting at 1:00 PM. July 24th 2011 we will be playing on the Ranch course, starting at 11:00 AM. There is discount lodging available; information is on our meet-up site where members can also register. The par-71 River Course, Hurdzan-Fry designed course brings an element of drama to your game. The par-35 front nine is oriented around the path of the Snake River and the par-36 back nine winds through a lodge pole pine forest. Impressive elevation changes, variable bunkers, water hazards, and five sets of tees on each hole combine to challenge golfers of all abilities. The 16th hole features a 194- foot elevation drop from tee to green and the scenic 18th hole offers 12 bunkers and spectacular views of Lake Dillon. Add to that the magnificent views of snow-capped peaks and wildlife and it s easy to see this is a golfing experience unlike any other. Total yardage is 4,762-6,886. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Keystone Ranch Golf Course follows the legendary links-style of a Scottish course on the front nine, while the back nine presents a traditional mountain valley layout. Challenge yourself and take your game to a higher level on this classic mountain golf course. Winding through lodge pole pines, around sage meadows and across a nine-acre lake, this par-72 golf course features slight elevation changes and many bunkers. Total yardage is 5,582-7,090. ~Lloyd Williams Golf News Broken Tee Golf Course hosted Denver ASGA's second Nine and Dine event on Friday June 10. Forty-four golfers took part in the 5:00pm shotgun start and stayed for dinner after playing the front nine. The front nine at Broken Tee was completely redesigned about two years ago and, therefore, provided a new experience for most of the golfers. For this event, each foursome was allowed to select either a scramble format or a play your own ball format. Closest to the pin honors went to Jan Elliott on hole #5 and to Terry Mather on hole #7. Following golf, the ASGA group literally took over the back patio for dinner and social activities. Dinner was an off-the-menu format which accommodated the varying tastes of our diverse membership. A fairly sizable group stayed late enjoying cocktails and each others company. After the sun set, we enjoyed watching the weather, lightning and all, roll through from the safety and protection of the ample covered patio. When we finally finished our last drinks and decided to break for the evening, we realized that the golf course had closed and the employees had already gone home. What a great golfing event and opportunity to meet many new wonderful single golfers! Keep an eye on the Meet-up site for news of additional Nine and Dine events coming soon. ~Tom Boyce, Golf Committee Do you want to update your personal information on our chapter s roster?
