Of Oklahoma s six-member balance beam lineup, five Sooners captured first or second team accolades on the event more than any team on any single event in the nation. In addition, both junior Haley Scaman and true freshman Brenna Dowell earned All-America honors on two separate events. Individual BIG 12 AWARDS SWEPT IT K.J. Kindler Coach of the Year In addition to becoming the first-ever Big 12 program to win four straight conference titles, Haley Scaman Gymnast of the Year Oklahoma swept through the conference award listing for the second time since 2013. K.J. Ali Jackson Specialist of the Year Kindler won her ninth career Big 12 Coach of the Year honor and Haley Scaman was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Year for the second consecutive season. True freshmen Ali Jackson Brenna Dowell Newcomer of the Year (Event Specialist of the Year) and Brenna Dowell (Newcomer of the Year) also captured end-of-the-year accolades from the conference. QUICK HITS The Sooners have posted at least one of their season high scores on every event over the last month, including three of their top five scores on beam in the month of March alone. Of OU s nine team members to earn an event title this season, five are members of the sophomore or freshman class. Haley Scaman leads all Sooners with 17 individual titles on the season and has earned the highest total on both vault and floor. Scaman and Brenna Dowell are the only two Sooners to have won at least one title on three separate events. Oklahoma is the nation s only team ranked in the top ten that has never competed an all-arounder this season. OU returns six previous NCAA All-Americans in 2015. The group has amassed a total of 11 accolades during their careers, including four-time winner Erica Brewer (UB, BB, AA). State Missouri Oregon State OKLAHOMA 5 OKLAHOMA Penn State Southern Utah N.C. State Missouri Oregon State 6 Oregon State OKLAHOMA Penn State Southern Utah N.C. State Missouri Q&A WITH COACH KINDLER ON IF THE MENTALITY CHANGES GOING INTO NCAAS: I d like to think that it stays the same because for us, it s just another gymnastics meet and we have to do well to move on, of course. But, what s most important is that they continue to build on what they ve done this season and if they do that, moving on won t be an issue. For them, I want them to continue apply what they ve been working on in the gym and those improvements that we ve made. You don t have to emphasize the fact that this is the first round of NCAA they know it somewhere in the back of their minds. But for us, it s another step to our goal. ON THEIR FOCUS DURING THE OFF-WEEK: The following Friday, a week after we would have normally had a meet, we did some intrasquading on both bars and beam. We are starting on bars in the competition so we kind of emulate that and just kind of kept them in the mode of competing and practiced our regional timing and all that since it does change in this meet. We tried to keep them in the same rhythm for the most part but also it was a great week to get them a little stronger and kind of beef up the conditioning a little bit and make sure that we keep them strong at the end of the year. ON THE MINDSET OF THE FINAL WEEKS OF COMPETITION: Honestly, we ve committed to the whole season this year. I think that beginning to end it was just a different mentality coming off last year and one of our goals was to always be at our best fitness the last four weeks and we ve been really focusing on that and making sure they know where they are at personally and how they can get better. As a team, we re just focusing on the next step and we re trying to really build on what we ve done all year. They know that they ve done a phenomenal job and are in a wonderful position but they also know that each meet is new life. I don t think that we ve done anything different in terms of mindset. ON THE CHALLENGE OF BEING SEEDED NO. 1: I haven t found any differences this year other than that they have been able to take a lot of confidence from it. If you look at the rankings the top six teams are within tenths of each other. This is not where your number one team is blowing people away, this is a close race and though we ve been able to hang on to that ranking, it s going to be a close race to the end and they know it. They know it s going to come down to the very last little things and they know that from last year. And we weren t ranked number one going in last year and we were able to win it. Everyone has a chance and so it s up to us to get them in the best place possible to have that kind of night. We re not getting ahead of ourselves, don t take anything for granted and this first meet is a key. HISTORY VS. REGIONAL TEAMS Oklahoma has not faced any of the teams in the 2015 NCAA Norman Regional field this season. The Sooners are a combined 85-21 against teams in the regional field all-time, most recently meeting Southern Utah head-on at last season s NCAA Minneapolis Regional. Oklahoma has met Missouri more than any other team in the regional field, taking on the Tigers a total of 65 times since the program s inception in 1981. OU owns a 54-11 edge over Missouri with virtually all of the meetings taking place in Big 12 competition. LAST TIME OUT The Sooners captured an unprecedented fourth consecutive Big 12 Conference title on March 21 in Norman, cruising to a 197.875 in the Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners captured or tied for event titles on every apparatus and each title was won by a different team member. Brenna Dowell took top honors on floor (9.95) and Chayse Capps and Erica Brewer tied for the beam title (9.975). Ali Jackson snagged the vault crown (9.925) while Rebecca Clark tied with Iowa State s Caitlin Brown for the title on bars (9.9). Oklahoma also pulled down a total of 12 All-Big 12 Championship Team accolades. THE ROAD TO FORT WORTH This weekend s competition begins the road to Fort Worth, Texas and the 2015 NCAA Championship meet. The top two finishing teams from each of this weekend s six regionals will advance to one of the two NCAA Semifinals at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Should Oklahoma qualify to the championship meet, it is positioned to compete in Semifinal II with teams in the Auburn and Ames Regionals. FIVE TIMES 10.0 Oklahoma junior Haley Scaman has wasted no time continuing to rewrite the record books for the Sooners. Scaman has earned two perfect 10.0s this season (one on floor, one on vault) to bring her career total of 10.0s to five. The Riverside, Ill. native is the first Sooner in program history to earn multiple 10.0s as well as 10.0s on more than one event. She captured at least one event title in every regular season meet for OU, totalling 17 titles from January to March, and was named a first team NACGC All-American on both vault and floor. FRESHMAN PHENOM Brenna Dowell has made exactly the kind of impact in her freshman season that the Oklahoma coaching staff expected. The former U.S. Senior National Team member and current Big 12 Newcomer of the Year has snagged seven event titles while competing on three events this year. She became the first-ever OU freshman to post a perfect 10.0 on any event in January, capturing the perfect score on uneven bars. Dowell has also posted a 9.975 on floor and was named an NACGC All-American on both floor (first team) and bars (second team).

Even more impressively, the Sooners did it against the No. 2 toughest schedule in the nation (according to RoadtoNationals. com). Oklahoma topped four of the country s top six ranked teams during the 2015 regular season. Of the other teams ranked in the top five for toughest schedule, none besides OU posted fewer than three losses. UNDERCLASS IMPACT The Sooners have relied on the big impact from their freshman and sophomore class this season. Members of the two classes have totalled 30 event titles and 73 scores of 9.9 or higher this season. Sophomore Chayse Capps has led the way, capturing 10 titles on beam and vault and earning multiple weeks at No. 1 in the country on beam. Classmate McKenzie Wofford also earned multiple weeks at No. 1 on bars and eights scores of 9.9 or higher on the event this season. OU s freshman class has also been dynamic. Brenna Dowell was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, while powerful vault and floor competitor Ali Jackson garnered Event Specialist of the Year accolades. Classmate Natalie Brown has also been a crucial component of this season s team as an alternate on both beam and floor, earning a Big 12 weekly award following OU s performance at Alabama. IN GOOD COMPANY Oklahoma is one of only five teams in the nation to advance to the NCAA Championships every season since 2004, joining Alabama, Florida, LSU and Utah in the listing. OU will try to extend that streak with a top-two finish in Saturday s Regional meet. BEAM STARS Head coach and primary beam coach K.J. Kindler has led another outstanding Oklahoma lineup on the event this season. The Sooners have totalled four scores of 49.500 or hgher on beam in 2015, including a program record mark of 49.750 on March 6 against Florida. That total shattered a record that had stood at OU since 2003 and featured a perfect 10.0 from Erica Brewer, Oklahoma s first on beam since 2002. The Sooners enter NCAA competition ranked No. 1 nationally on beam with the nation s top score on the event this season (49.750). OU captured five regular season All-America awards on beam and boasts a lineup that includes four members who have earned a 9.95 or higher this season. A NIGHT TO REMEMBER Oklahoma s senior night was one to remember for more than just the senior class. The top-ranked Sooners faced No. 3 Florida on March 6 in the final regular season meet of the year in the LNC, and the meet more than lived up to the hype. In front of a record crowd of over 4,000 fans, OU posted a program-record score of 198.500 to defeated the Gators (198.100). That score stands as the No. 6 score all-time in NCAA history. The meet displayed the mental strength the Sooners have come to display all season long--oklahoma trailed Florida through the first two rotations and needed strong outings on both beam and floor to catch the Gators. The Sooners responded in a massive way with a near-flawless beam rotation and an energetic floor performance, setting program record scores on both events en route to their victory. OU went over 49.700-plus on each event (49.750 on beam, 49.725 on floor) to snag the victory. CONFERENCE DOMINANCE Oklahoma captured every All-Big 12 spot except one on all four events this year to record the largest number of All-Big 12 honorees in league history. This season marked the eighth straight year that OU has led the conference in All-Big 12 selections. ALL-BIG 12 AWARDS Individual Class Events Chayse Capps So. The award is considered one of the highest honors given in the sport of NCAA women s gymnastics. Brewer is joined by nominees Rheagan Courville (LSU), Georgia Dabritz (Utah), Kytra Hunter (Florida), Samantha Pezsek (UCLA) and Sachi Sugiyama (Michigan) in the finalist field. As a senior, Brewer has posted or tied career-highs on every event she competes, including a 10.0 on balance beam against Florida. Her 10.0 is the only one on beam in 2015 by any NCAA gymnast. She has also posted a 9.95 on bars this season and a 9.9 on floor exercise. SENIOR STANDOUTS In addition to Erica Brewer s contributions, Oklahoma has relied heavily on the leadership of Rebecca Clark and Haley Sorensen this season, particularly on beam. All three members of the class were named NACGC All-Americans on beam while leading OU to a No. 1 national ranking on the event for multiple weeks this season.

Kindler would never go was exactly where the head coach of the Oklahoma women s gymnastics team led her program. Now in her her ninth season at OU, Kindler has elevated her program to the absolute heights of the NCAA gymnastics world. A two-time National Coach of the Year, Kindler took her 2014 Sooners to the pinnacle of the sport, winning the program s firstever NCAA title in record-breaking fashion. A visionary with the heart and willpower to accomplish what few thought was possible, Kindler made Oklahoma only the sixth team in NCAA history to win a women s gymnastics championship. Kindler s 2014 Sooners were Big 12 champions, NCAA Minneapolis Regional Champions and earned nine NCAA All-America awards. She also coached three gymnasts to top-two finishes at the NCAA Championships, including balance beam champion Taylor Spears. Spears became OU s first individual national champion in 26 years and was joined by Maile ana Kanewa (floor exercise) and Haley Scaman (floor exercise) in earning top-two NCAA finishes. In 2013, Kindler led OU to the program s third NCAA Super Six team finals appearance. The squad earned seven All-America honors en route to a secondplace team effort overall, tying for the highest finish in program history. The performance marked OU s third top-three finish in the last four seasons under Kindler. Kindler s 2010 team also achieved a second-place finish in OU s first-ever Super Six appearance. With the performance, Kindler became the first head coach in NCAA history to lead two separate programs to the Super Six (Iowa State--2006; Oklahoma--2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014). Under Kindler s leadership, OU has captured six Big 12 championships, five consecutive NCAA regional titles and 50 NCAA All-America awards. The collegiate gymnastics community has recognized Kindler for her coaching achievements, awarding her National Coach of Year honors twice (2005 and 2010), Regional Coach of the Year accolades six times (2004, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014) and Big 12 Coach of the Year laurels a program-record eight times (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014). Kindler has bolstered OU to new heights, coaching 50 All-Americans, 25 Big 12 Champions and 19 NCAA Regional champions in just eight seasons at Oklahoma. The 2013 season marked one of the finest in Oklahoma program history. OU spent the entirety of the season ranked in the top three nationally, including two weeks at No. 1. The primary beam coach, Kindler led the beam squad to a No. 1 ranking for 11 consecutive weeks during the regular season. OU defeated nine top-25 teams, including four top-10 squads, en route to the program s 11th conference title and an NCAA Regional championship. The Sooners regular season efforts were recognized with a nation-best 11 NACGC/W All-America awards. Kindler s leadership throughout the team s stellar season earned her Coach of the Year honors from the Big 12 and the South Central Region. Kindler s OU squad was marked by excellence at both the team and individual levels in 2013. The team posted a 197.375 at the NCAA Championships to finish as the nation s runner-up, tying for the highest finish in Sooner history. OU scored a 197.000 or better at 13 meets in 2013, tying an NCAA record for most such meets in a single season. Kindler has combined athletic and academic success throughout her career with 78 Academic HEAD COACH K.J. KINDLER NINTH SEASON - IOWA STATE, 99-289-76-4 (OU: 231-50-3) All-Big 12 honorees and 50 NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans. In 2012, Kindler led the Sooners to team titles at the Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Champaign Regional. Kinder was named conference coach of the year and OU captured seven All-America awards and a seventh-place finish in the country. Kindler was named the South Central Regional Head Coach of the Year in 2011 after guiding OU to its third undefeated regular season in four years. A program-best 11 OU gymnasts were named All- Americans as the Sooners went on to win an NCAA Regional title and finish third in the nation. On Jan. 23, 2011, Kindler collected her 100th win with the OU program as the Sooners defeated TWU, 196.175-193.050. OU is a combined 179-48-2 in seven seasons under Kindler; she has helped the program to its four best win percentages in program history in the last four seasons. In 2010, the National Coach of the Year, Regional Coach of the Year and Big 12 Coach of the Year led Oklahoma to a national runner-up finish at the NCAA Championships with seven All-Americans, including Big 12 Sportswoman of the Year Hollie Vise. Vise was an All-American on bars, beam and floor and finished as the national runner-up on bars and floor. Under the direction of Kindler, the Sooners closed 2010 with a final record of 29-3. The win total broke the previous program best of 26 that was set in 1989 under Becky Switzer. Kindler guided the Sooners to the only undefeated regular season in the NCAA in 2010 (22-0) en route to postseason titles at the Big 12 Championship and NCAA University Park Regional. OU was ranked first or second in every regular season poll in 2010, as the Sooners were the only squad in the country to score above a 196.000 in every meet. Oklahoma also picked up its first win over a No. 1 opponent in program history in 2010 with a 197.950-197.275 victory over top-ranked Alabama on March 5. OU eclipsed its previous program best (197.725) by 0.225 in the win, which was the highest score in the NCAA that season. Kindler s squad continued its Big 12 dominance, winning its third-straight Big 12 title with a team score of 197.175, the highest score by a conference champion since 2001. OU swept all four team event titles and won at least a share of all four individual event titles. The Sooners won their second-straight Big 12 title in 2009, while posting individual event titles on bars and beam at the conference championship. Megan Ferguson earned All-America status with her stellar performance on beam as the Sooners won eight beam titles in 2009. In 2008, Kindler guided Kiara Redmond as the senior capped off her illustrious career with four additional All-America honors, moving her career total to nine - the highest tally of any gymnast in program history. The 2008 campaign started with 21 consecutive victories, including all 18 regular season meetings, as OU finished the regular season as the only undefeated team in the country. Oklahoma produced a conference-leading nine spots on the 2008 regular season All-Big 12 Team. OU recorded only two scores lower than 9.8 in the final three events of the 2008 conference championship as the Sooners clinched at least a share of all four individual event titles - marking just the third time in Big 12 history that a school clinched at least a share of all four apparatus wins. Named head coach of the Sooners in the summer of 2006, Kindler quickly positioned the OU squad among the nation s elite in her first season in Norman in 2007. That year, the Sooners rattled off a streak of 12 consecutive victories, nine of which came on the road, including an upset of then-no. 6 Nebraska in Lincoln, a feat no OU team had accomplished since 1991. Oklahoma finished second at the Big 12 Championships before heading to the NCAA Central Regional, taking second place before finishing eighth at the NCAA Championships, the highest finish up to that point in program history. We are dedicated to filling our staff with the best and brightest minds in coaching, said OU Athletics Director Joe Castiglione upon Kindler s hiring. K.J. Kindler brings a reputation of great achievement in all aspects of leading a program. She impressed us not only with her accomplishment to this point, but with her lofty goals for the future and her plan for reaching those goals. We are thrilled to work with K.J. and her staff as we pursue championships. Prior to her hiring at OU, Kindler spent six seasons as the head coach at Iowa State. In her final season in Ames in 2006, Kindler led Iowa State to its third trip to the NCAA Championships and its first appearance in the Super Six team finals. The 24-10 Cyclones produced three All-Americans for a second-consecutive season while posting an undefeated mark at home, a 10-1 dual record and an 8-1 standard in duals against ranked opponents. The team also snapped Nebraska s 60-meet home winning streak. The 2006 squad won its first Big 12 Championship since 2000, and three Cyclone gymnasts earned either an outright or share of an individual title at the meet. During six seasons at ISU from 2001-06, Kindler coached nine regional event champions, seven NCAA individual championship qualifiers and 13 Big 12 champions. Kindler, an Iowa State graduate, joined the Cyclone staff as an assistant coach in 1992. As an ISU gymnast, Kindler was a three-time MVP for the Cyclones and runner-up in the all-around at the 1992 Big Eight Championships. She was the school s first individual NCAA Regional qualifier and competed three times in the postseason meet. Kindler hails from Lake Elmo, Minn., and trained under Mary Jane Olsen at Hamline University in St. Paul. In high school, she moved to Connecticut and trained under Frank and Laurie DeFrancesco at Arena Academy in Stamford and Walter Hawkes at Wilton High School. In Connecticut, she won multiple conference and state titles. The eldest of five siblings, Kindler hails from a gymnastics family. One sister, Lori, competed at the University of Minnesota. She and her husband own and operate Flips Gymnastics in the Twin Cities area. Kindler s nieces, Emma and Lucy Kindler, enjoy recreational gymnastics. Kindler is married to OU assistant coach Lou Ball. The couple has two daughters, Maggie and Adelade.
