CELEBRATING 24 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Indianapolis Chapter - American Singles Golf Association February 2016 FROM THE PRESIDENT Thanks everyone for electing me President of the Indianapolis Chapter for a second year. I've been a member of ASGA since 2012 and have enjoyed playing with this group. Thanks also to my awesome board that helps to make our group a success. Speaking of success, we are still in need of a Social Chair. This is an awesome opportunity to lead a group in organizing the social activities for our chapter related to the after golf socials, monthly meetings, and other events. Having a committee for these events makes this job less daunting. The social events are a fun way for everyone to meet and make new friends. We are all part of a group that not only likes to play golf but likes to meet up afterwards to socialize and talk about our game and day with everyone. Please contact me that you will step up as Social Chair and organize the social committee for 2016. We appreciate your assistance. At our last meeting, we had three guests that came to find out what we were all about. Since then, we have had one guest join and hoping to have the others come on board. Welcome Dolores Scardine, thank you for joining our group. We look forward to playing golf with you in 2016. Our spring "kick off" meeting will be in April. Keep watching the Meetup site: http://www.meetup.com/golf-286 for the exact date. Thanks to everyone who helped to make 2015 a very good season. Let's make 2016 even better! ~Ann Van Ness FROM THE GOLF CHAIR Just imagine, in another 3 short months we will be dusting off our clubs and venturing out onto the fairways to start the 2016 season. Unless of course you have already taken a winter excursion with clubs in tow as some of you have been known to do. Unfortunately for us, Greg Mishler will not be able to coordinate our Nine and Dine events for this coming season. These have been popular and are a great way to introduce new faces to our group. We need someone to take over these duties. It is not difficult but it does require an investment of your time in organizing the event. If you can help out in any way, or are interested in taking on the task, please con- tact me or one of the other board members. I have a few dates I wanted to share with you from our Cincy friends. Marsha Barnholtz is the Cincy chapter s golf chair this year and she has been busy working on the schedule for some of their events for next year. They are as follows: Season opener April 29th to May 1st Louisville, KY July 30th & 31st - Eagle sticks and The Virtues GC (formerly Longaberger) two of the top rated golf courses in Ohio Zanesville, OH I-74 challenge August 19th to 21st Cincinnati area Season closer October 7th to 9th - Perry Park, KY As always, we are graciously invited to attend any of their outings /events. Please set aside these dates. This year the I-74 challenge will be held in the Cincinnati area. We are one down in the series and need a good showing to win the trophy back. Please plan to attend and support our chapter. ~Ken Ferguson Upcoming Multi-Chapter Events (see SinglesGolf.com/events): Sunshine Fling - Orlando area - March 3-6, 2016. The First Tee Program Barely two years after The First Tee of Indiana came under the administration of the Indiana Golf Foundation, the program has experienced tremendous growth. The First Tee of Indiana is now operating in 11 Indiana communities with plans for additional expansion in 2016. But The First Tee is not just about golf. What started as a concept to make golf more accessible to young people turned into an opportunity to help youth develop core values and learn life skills that are inherent in the game of golf. The First Tee Life Skills Experience was formulated with the help of academic, sport psychology, youth development and golf experts to proactively teach core values and life skills as part of basic golf instruction at chapters. The First Tee programs teach young people life skills that allow them to face challenges at home, school and play in a constructive manner. The skills they learn include problem solving, goal setting, time management, controlling one s emotions, working well with others and improving relationships with family and community. Skills including decision-making, selfmanagement and goal-setting were consistently transferred to situations involving school, family, friends, jobs, college, career and out-of-school activities. For example, many students found that they were able to stay positive when frustrated with homework, to set goals to get better grades and to look for solutions to problems with friends. The First Tee provides opportunities for young people to experience a positive, safe place, surrounded by caring adults. They learn the value of giving back to their community and the meaning of responsibility and respect. The goals of The First Tee include seeing participants graduate from high school on time with the life skills needed to succeed in college and life, with the ability to make healthy choices and with the desire to positively impact their communities.
