CELEBRATING 22 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF IN AMERICA Indianapolis Chapter - American Singles Golf Association March 2014 From the President It is hard to believe that warm weather is almost here! I am looking forward to the 2014 ASGA spring season. Stay tuned because we have some exciting events coming up in May. Sadly we completed our bowling season in February. Thank you to all that came out to play even in the when the weather was not its best. We had a good season and look forward to bowling next year. Thanks also to Jerry and Linda for hosting a euchre event at Indian Lakes Country Club. Several us attended and we had a great time. Our next meeting and social is scheduled for Tuesday, March 18 at Scotty s Brewhouse on 96 th Street. The social will start at 6:30 p.m. We have a couple of guest speakers, GolfTec will speak to us about the upcoming swing event at their store. Several of us did this last year and it was a great event. I picked up a few pointers that helped me with my golf swing and game. A Golfsmith representative will also speak to us about equipment. Please see the details on our IndyASGA Meetup site and sign up to attend. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meetings and events. Perhaps the thoughts of the upcoming golf season with its green grass and warm sunny weather will help lift your spirits. I have uploaded a file called 2014 Indy ASGA Golf Course Selection List under the More section on our meetup website. As an ASGA member you can complete this form if you wish to vote for the golf courses you would like to have on the schedule this year. Once it is completed please email it to me or turn it in at our monthly meeting. Please have it back to me by the end of March so that I can tally the votes before starting to book the schedule for 2014. Greg Mishler has volunteered to coordinate our nine and dine outings for this year and Mary Beyer has also volunteered to assist him with the task. Thanks to them both for taking on the task. Sunrise golf course is now off the list since it has closed to make room for residential development. I recently sent out an email about the two outings that the Cincinnati chapter is putting together for the weekends of May 3rd in Lexington, KY and July in Greensburg, IN (likely the 12 th ). Golf Tip STANCE BEST TIP: Play ball far enough away to get full extension. Aim clubface first. Then align your body. At address, your hands should be about four inches from your thighs. Keep your head up. Bend forward from the hips about 33 degrees and tilt body toward right at address. Let your arms hang naturally Elbows should be bent slightly inward at address. Keep your chin up. Maintain minimal knee bend. Keep right knee flexed and stable. Don t let it slide or straighten throughout swing. For drives, set up with 80% of weight on right foot. Make sure the ball is not too far forward. For drives, it should be at a point below left shoulder. Position ball under the logo on your shirt. Play ball far enough away from body to get full extension. The longer the club, the more the left foot should be flared out from perpendicular for short irons to 45 degrees for the driver. Golf Thoughts In golf, it s not so much whether you win or lose, but how often you play the game. If the tee blocks and greens were closer together, if the holes were bigger and if there were no sand traps, water hazards or trees, golf would be easy. You probably wouldn t look good in a green jacket anyway. If you re having a bad game, just remember: Maybe when we get to heaven, we get all our lost golf balls back.
