ITEMS DUE TO 4-H OFFICE FEBRUARY 1 The following are due to our office by February 1, 2015: 4-H Record Books and Project Records for 2014 4-H Enrollment forms (members and volunteers) Club Secretary Book which includes Public Relations Effort by Clubs Form AA-4H/HE4. Charter forms 2015 Planning Calendar 2015 Club Officer list Shooting Sports Inventory 990-N (e-postcard) must be filed by November 15, 2014. (Reporting July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014) You can do so online at: http://epostcard.form990.org. Whether successful or not in filing, 4-H clubs/groups need to save evidence of their success or failure and submit a copy to the 4-H office with their treasurer s books. Print a copy and keep this in a safe place with the treasurer s book. Do not worry if your filing fails. There are many reasons that this may happen, but be sure that you have that proof that you attempted to file. Any questions or issues need to be brought to the Allegany County UME Office. Do not contact National 4-H or IRS. The University of Maryland, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources programs are open to all and will not discriminate against anyone because of race, age, sex, color, sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, religion, ancestry, or national origin, marital status, genetic information, or political affiliation, or gender identity and expression.

RECORD BOOK ELIGIBILITY PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Record Books, Awards, and Fair Eligibility: To receive a ribbon and certificate/seal: members must complete a record book with at least one completed project record inside. To receive project pins, projects must be complete and inside a complete record book. To meet fair eligibility to show livestock, members must complete a project record on each project exhibited at the 2014 fair to show at the 2015 fair. Records must be submitted in a folder with your name and primary club printed on the front. RECORD BOOK FORMS 4-H RECORD BOOK FORMS Summary Record: Complete only one Summary Record for your current year in 4-H. Be sure to sign where indicated as 4-H Member. Your primary Club Leader needs to sign the summary record after reviewing the completeness and accuracy of the information included. Project Records: Each project must go on a separate project record. (Please be sure to use the correct project form such as livestock forms for livestock projects.) To be classified as complete, each project record must be filled out completely: personal information, goals, communications/exhibits (2 are required), learning experiences (4 are required), financial records, life skills, and reflection. Records must be signed by the member and the primary club leader after reviewing for completeness and accuracy. If you choose to use plastic page covers, please do not use them for pages requiring signatures. NEW VOLUNTEER TRAINING All adults interested in volunteering for 4-H are required to complete University of Maryland Extension (UME) Volunteer training. The next face-to-face training for new volunteers is scheduled for November 10, 6:00 p.m. at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. Light refreshments will be provided. Training is also available online November 11 and December 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Participants will need access to a computer with internet connection as well as a telephone. UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND CELEBRATIONS 100 YEARS! The signing of the Smith-Lever Act (link is external) by Congress in 1914 officially created the national Cooperative Extension Service, a state-by-state network of educators who extend university-based knowledge directly to the people. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this significant milestone in our nation s history and its impact on our state specifically, Allegany County UME recently held an anniversary celebration at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. A special thank you to the ASTAR robotics club for assisting with the event.

ALLEGANY COUNTY LIBRARY ACTIVITIES November: Children of all ages are invited to join the South Cumberland Library Lego Club on Wednesday, November 5 at 6:00pm in the South Cumberland Library Community Room. Bring a camera to take pictures of your creations because the Legos have to stay at the library! The George s Creek Library Arts Connection program will meet in the George's Creek Library Community Room on Thursday, November 6 at 6:00 pm. This program is free and open to children ages 6-17. It offers hand s on instruction in the visual arts with local artist Julie Shillingburg. Contact the George s Creek Library at 301-463-2629 for details. OUT AND ABOUT IN ALLEGANY COUNTY November 24 - The Frostburg Center for Creative Writing is excited to present the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Reading. The event will be at the Center for Creative Writing located at 20 East Main Street in Downtown Frostburg starting at 7:30PM. November 28 - The Allegany Museum will be holding a Holiday Open House from 7:30 9:00PM in the Grand Court Room. The Downtown Tree Lighting will be held along with Special Holiday Exhibits & Decorations. There will also be entertainment and refreshments! December 5 - Open house at the Frostburg Museum located on Hill and Oak Street., 5 to 8PM. There will be music, lots of Christmas/Historic items to view and light refreshments. Admission is free to the public. For more information contact the Frostburg Museum at 301-689-1195. December 5 - Frostburg will be holding its City Tree Lighting Celebration. Come warm yourself with a cup of hot chocolate and have some delicious cookies. You can gather around an open fire pit and talk with old friends. There will be caroling at the City Tree Lighting. It will be held at St. Michael School Courtyard Main Street. The trolley will be available to transport people from Main Street to the Museum and to all points in-between. December 11 - The 11th Annual Storybook Holiday will be held this Saturday. Come enjoy the day in the magical world of Frostburg. Bundle up and celebrate the holiday season! Fill the peanut butter jar with cotton balls. Try to squish them into the jar tightly. Put the lid on the jar. 2. Glue on two googly eyes. 3. Cut a small orange triangle out of craft foam and glue it under the eyes as a nose. 4. Cut some small circles out of black craft foam and glue them into a smile on your snowman. 5. Cut a piece of felt that is able to wrap around the jar. Glue it into place towards the bottom of the jar. 6. Roll the bottom of the sock up and fit it over the lid of the jar as a hat. To make some, first create a work surface by covering a large piece of cardboard with plastic wrap. 2. For each snowflake, arrange 18 cotton swabs as shown. Squeeze a small amount of tacky glue where the ends of the swabs meet. 3. Sprinkle glitter onto the glue and let the snowflakes dry overnight. 4. Carefully peel each flake from the plastic. Collect and return the excess glitter to its container. Hang up your snowflakes with string. http://spoonful.com
