LEXINGTON DIXIE BASEBALL Annual Membership Meeting Minutes September 6, 2018 Present at Meeting: X Daniels, Al X Murray, Steve Vacant X Frazier, Tommy X Page, Chris X Herndon, Tom X Sanders, Kevin X Kirby, Jay X Shannon, Jason X Maness, Amiel J. X Thompson, Barb X Mays, Blane X Thompson, James A list of the membership attendees is attached. 1. Call to Order. Vice-President, Tommy Frazier, called the meeting to order at 6:34 PM. 2. Welcome and Introductions of Board of Directors. Reported by Tommy Frazier. This meeting is for the board of directors to present our report to the general membership and hold the board of directors election. There will be time at the end for comments, questions and answers. The Board of directors were introduced then the Directors whose terms were expiring: Tom Herndon, Jay Kirby, Kevin Sanders, and Barb Thompson were recognized. 3. Reports: a. Treasurer. Chris Page presented the attached report. b. Jr. T-Ball. Tommy Frazier reported all went well in the spring season. c. T-Ball. Jason Shannon reported in the spring of 2018 T-Ball fielded 17 teams consisting of 210 players. d. Coaches Pitch. Blane Mays reported in the spring of 2018 Coaches Pitch fielded 18 teams consisting of 219 players. All-star teams were recognized (see the attached rosters). e. Minors. Amiel J. Maness reported in the spring of 2018 Minors fielded 14 teams consisting of 182 players. In the American Division - Ben Frye (Digital Hearing Outlet) won the Championship. In the National Division - Heath Corley (Safelite Auto Glass) won the Championship. Ben Fry took the American Division All-stars to Gaston. Brad Melton took the National Division All-stars to Pineview. Both teams were eliminated in the sub district. All-star teams were recognized (see the attached rosters). f. Ozone. Amiel J. Maness reported in the spring of 2018 Ozone fielded 6 teams consisting of 72 players. The Championship was won by O-A5-Cordero Envision Eye Care Managed by Clete Cordero. All-stars were in the Gaston Sub-District and went 3 2. They lost in the final game of the championship round. All-star teams were recognized (see the attached rosters). Page 2 g. Pony. Kevin Sanders reported Pony 4 teams consisting of 45 players. The allstar teams went to the final four at the state tournament. All-star teams were recognized (see the attached rosters). h. Colt. Kevin Sanders reported we did not have enough players register to have Colt teams. We are looking to see if we can raise enough interest to have teams in the spring. 4. Old Business. a. 2018 Schedule and Player Draft Rule Changes Feedback. Chris Page said we had to tweak the rules changes some and we did make some mistakes. Some of the changes we are looking at are no doubleheader games Monday Thursday but there may be some on Friday; maybe schedule three (3) to four (4) Saturdays; we may need to tweak the draft process; and to have a time limit or not. We are not able to change some rules because they are national Dixie Youth Baseball rules such as the numbers of games played and the number of teams in a division is seven (7), except Coaches Pitch is nine (9) teams. Competitive T-Ball may be coming soon. 5. New Business. a. Board of Directors Nominations. There are (5) Board of Directors Terms open). The Lexington Dixie Baseball Nominating Committee proposed the following candidates to be elected as Board Directors: Tom Herndon, Jay Kirby, Kevin Sanders, and Corey Coleman. They are placed in nomination. Bart Owens was nominated from the floor and he accepted the nomination. Glenn Wright moved nominations be closed and Kevin Sanders seconded. It was carried unanimously. i. Candidate Acceptance Speeches. Candidates who wished spoke briefly. b. Board of Directors Election. Amiel J. Maness moved all nominees be elected by acclimation and Glenn Wright seconded. It was carried unanimously. i. Rules and Regulations. Chris Page spoke about some possible rules changes. Some parents suggested a Coaches Pitch tryout, T-Ball team size be reduced, and a discount for the team manager s child registration fees to encourage more managers. In the Rules Committee we will be looking at game time limits, batting lineup options, and whether to merge Jr. T-Ball and T-Ball back together. c. Board Transparency. Chris Page reported on implementing some changes to increase board transparency such as publishing board meeting notices, calendar one (1) to two (2) years out, and meeting minutes on the Lexington Dixie Baseball webpage. d. Practice Fields Update. Tommy Frazier spoke about the practice field availability. e. Security. Tommy Frazier reported that when deputies come to refuel their vehicles they will make a stop at the baseball complex to spend a few minutes and be noticed. The LCR&AC is in the process of establishing a policy to require and Dixie tournaments to use umpires from outside of the district.
Page 3 f. Membership Questions and Answers. There was general discussion around practice field availability, changing Coaches Pitch to utilize three (3) divisions instead of the current two (2), Coaches Pitch tryouts, limiting Minors teams to 12 players, and reporting pitch counts for all pitchers. g. Board of Directors Election Results. Amiel J. Maness reported Corey Coleman, Tom Herndon, Jay Kirby, Bart Owens, and Kevin Sanders are the newly elected Board Directors. 6.
