WE VE GOT AN AUDIENCE On Dec. 9 last season, the Flyers played in front of 9,007 fans at UD Arena while hosting Toledo. The season-best crowd was due to the overwhelming success of UD s annual School Day game, a chance for local school-aged children to take a field trip with the Flyers. With a home attendance average of 2,674, Dayton ranked 44th out of 349 DI programs. 2017 A-10 HONORS Dayton senior Kelley Austria was named A-10 Defensive POY award, as well as All-Conference Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Joining her was senior Saicha Grant-Allen, who was also Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Junior Jenna Burdette was the third Flyer on the All-Conference Second Team while freshman Jayla Scaife was named All-Rookie. NATIONAL TEAM EXPERIENCE Junior Maddy Dennis was a member of the 2015 U-19 Australian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2015 U-19 FIBA World Championship. She was also a member of the 2013 and 2014 U-17 Australian National Team. SITTING OUT THE SEASON Despite having a number of new faces on the Dayton roster this season, Flyer fans will have to wait to see a few of the newcomers. Junior forward Julia Chandler transferred to Dayton after two seasons at Syracuse. There she played in 27 games, second most amongst the sophomores. She recorded a career-high 12 points against both Boston College and DePaul. She also played a career-high 24 minutes against Old Dominion at the Florida Sunshine Classic, the same tournament the Flyers won. Another new addition is Araion Bradshaw, a sophomore guard from defending national champions South Carolina. She will sit out this season as well after appearing in 24 games last year at USC. Bradshaw was named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll and shot 40 percent from three-point range. One Flyer that was expected to contribute this season was junior guard Shakeela Fowler. A transfer from Trinity Valley CC, she was eligible to play this year, but unfortunately suffered an ACL injury prior to the season and will sit out as well. 2017-18 Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll 1st 1. University of Dayton Vice President and Director of Athletics Neil Sullivan announced that Green would be the Flyers new head women s basketball coach in September of 2016. In Green s first year at the helm of the Flyers, she made Dayton women s basketball history by guiding UD to its first ever sweep of regular season and tournament titles in the Atlantic 10 Conference. She received WBCA National Rookie Coach of the Year honors after leading the Flyers to a 22-10 record, 13-3 A-10 mark, and a berth in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Dayton s season ended in a hard-fought loss to No. 5 seed and eighttime National Champion Tennessee at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville on March 18. Under Coach Green s leadership, the Flyers added many individual and team accolades to their resume throughout the season. Dayton recorded its 26th 20+ win season, highlighted by an 11-game winning streak to start the 2017 calendar year. From Dec. 32 to Feb. 8, the Flyers did not lose a single game in A-10 play. Individually, senior center Saicha Grant-Allen earned A-10 All-Defensive Team and Second Team honors en route to getting drafted 35th overall in the 2017 WNBA Draft by the Los Angeles Sparks. Fellow senior Kelley Austria wrapped-up her historic career as the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year as well as A-10 Second Team and A-10 All-Defensive Team. Junior Jenna Burdette and freshman Jayla Scaife also received A-10 awards. In her previous stint at Dayton from 2012-2015, Green contributed to the success of the Flyers and made an impact on the current state of the program. In 2012-13, Dayton won 28 games, tying the most wins in the modern era of the program. The Flyers followed that up in Green s final season, 2014-15, with another 28 wins, a sixth-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and the program s first Regional Final. Two studentathletes from that team were drafted in the 2015 WNBA Draft Ally Malott to the Washington Mystics and Andrea Hoover to the Los Angeles Sparks. Hoover ranks fourth all-time on Dayton s scoring list while Malott ranks seventh. Green, who has previous head coaching experience at Loras College, returns to Dayton after spending last season at Northwestern as an assistant on Coach Joe McKeown s staff. With the Wildcats, Green helped guide the 2015-16 squad to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals where the Wildcats fell to eventual conference champion Maryland. NU went on to earn a berth in the WNIT before falling to San Diego to end the season. In just one year at Northwestern, Green helped numerous student-athletes earn athletic and academic accolades. Junior guard Nia Coffey earned WBCA All-America and All-Region honors while eight Wildcats were named Academic All-Big Ten. Junior guard Ashley Deary was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and All-Defensive Team as well. Green also has a previous coaching stint at Providence College. With the Friars, she served as recruiting coordinator which carried over to the same role at Dayton. Green was responsible for recruiting many of the current players on the Flyer team. A 2002 graduate of Canisius, Green received a degree in business marketing. She went on to earn a master s degree in physical education with an emphasis in athletic administration from Loras. Green and her husband, Andy, have one son, Matteo. Atlantic 10 Champions: 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017 (2x) 9
