4-H Newsletter January/ February 2016 The Clover Meat Judging Contest 19 Crosby Co. 4-Hers competed at the D-2 Meats Contest on Nov. 19 at Texas Tech. Juniors were: Taylor Boyd, Evan Fortner, Iva Lewelling, Addison Pickering, Rebekah Rymel and David Taylor. Intermediates were: Elizabeth Breshers, Caleb Cavazos, Ty Cornelius, Micah Deleon, Mikayla Hudnall, Jillian Lewis and Ayden Rendon. Seniors were: Montana Chandler, Eddie Dunn, Koby Houston, Cassidy Lane, Samuel Taylor and Hunter Wolfe. Consumer Decision Making Juniors: David Taylor and Samuel Dunn Intermediates: Katie Tucker and Ayden Rendon Seniors: Montana Chandler, Cassidy Lane, & Samuel Taylor The senior team placed 4th. Swine Skill-a-Thon Jadeyn Arthur, Cassidy Lane and Hunter Wolfe competed. Jadeyn placed 1st, Cassidy 2nd and Hunter 3rd in the Senior Division. Leslie Torres, Iva Lewelling and Ephram Reynoso also competed. Leslie placed 4th. 4 H Princesses 4 H Club has chosen three 4 H princesses to help with the 2016 Livestock by handing out awards. This year s princesses are Cielo Farley, Breighdyn Jones, and Cassidy Lane. Congratula ons to these girls! ********************************* Youth Board Are you in grades 9 12? Do you want to share your youth voice and make a difference is your county? Crosby County Youth Board is for you. This group is an integral part in planning the annual Youth Summit, an event for grades 8 9 held in May. If you want to be a part of this, please a end the planning mee ng that will occur on Monday, March 17, 12 Noon at the Ralls Storm Shelter Food Six 4-Hers competed in the District Food November 8. Morgan Griffith placed 3rd in the Junior Protein category. In the Senior division, Grace Cavazos placed 3rd in Fruits and Vegetables and Montana Chandler placed 3rd in Protein. Malachi Villegas, Betsy Fisher, and Cielo Farley also represented 4-H very well at the contest. Congratulations to all participants! Livestock January 13 16th Wednesday: Swine arrive prior to 4:00pm. Weighing is from 4 6 pm. Thursday: Rabbits arrive by 8:00am and show 9:00am. Farm Mechanics arrive by 9:00am and show 10:00am. Goats arrive by 10:00 am, weigh 10:00 11:00am. Steers arrive by 11:00am. Lambs arrive by 1:00pm, weighing 1:00 2:00pm. Swine starts at 6:30pm. Friday: Lamb starts at 9:00am. Goats will follow 30 minutes a er Lamb. Steers starts 30 minutes a er Goat or by 1:00pm Saturday: Premium Auc on starts at 7:00pm at the Pioneer Memorial Building in Crosbyton. All 4 H Families are asked to work 1 shi in the concession stand. This is one of our largest fundraisers! Please help us out!! Call Sue to sign up ASAP at 675 2347. Horse Judging Horse Judging Informational meeting and sign up will be Monday, January 25th, 6 pm at the Ralls Edge Building. If you are unable to attend and are interested in Horse Judging please contact Angela Arthur at 806-781-6189. Horse Project/Horse Applica ons for Horse Futurity and Horse Project Cer fica on forms are due at the Extension Office by May 1. If you have ques ons please call. If you plan to par cipate in the District or State Horse, Horses MUST be validated by May 2. Rifle If you are interested in Rifle, please contact the County Extension Office at 675-2347. Practices have not yet been determined. James Taylor will be coaching. The contest is April 11th. Rifles and ammo will be provided. 4-Hers must provide eye and ear protection. Pistol The 4-H Pistol Project will begin this spring! We will be shooting air, small-bore and larger caliber handguns. You can use you own, or we will provide. Practices will be held in Crosbyton and Lorenzo. Practices will be Monday and Wednesdays. More information will be emailed.
