Winter League sponsored by Wehrly s The Jewellers As we enter Round 5 this weekend and after Round 4 leadership changes have taken place. We now know that Stafford/O Hara partnership will most likely not qualify and that is the biggest shock to date this year? Section 1: Leading out in this section is Gary Byrne & James Barnicle with full points. Gary must pull out now and he has a sub coming in and a lot of pressure will fall on his substitute? They are odds on to qualify with the following partnerships Edwards/Flaherty and Ryan Senior and Junior. The battle for the last position is up for grabs? Section 2: This Section is very tight Quinn/Leonard, O Flaherty/Arnold, Sproule/Reynolds should qualify, the last position is up for grabs. Section 3: The Winter League favourites Feeney/Brady have moved into 2nd place and look good to qualify. It is hard to forecast other qualifiers but Owens/Moylan, Mc Dermot/Clifford should make it and it would be great if Gilligan/Gillen fill the last position. Section 4: Great win recorded by Alan Gaynor on his own against fancied pairing O Donovan/Anderson which should guarantee their qualification with Rahilly/O Connor. All other places will be determined maybe this weekend.section 5: Parkinson/Parkinson are leading this section, with Feeney/Devaney making a significant move. Feeney/O Neill have made a move! so last 2 qualifiers could be decided this weekend. Rumour has it that Heelan found it a bit cold last Sunday week!!! Section 6: The old men of O Sullivan/Taylor are definite favourites to qualify with Armstrong/Mc Elhone. O Brien/Davey look doomed, it will be tight for last 2 positions. The Father and Son combinations faltered and will be challenged to qualify. Section 7: This is a very close section with all teams in contention I now fancy Mc Donnell/Lynch and Doyle/Harty to qualify. This section I expect will be decided on the final day.
Some photos of hardy golfers in the recent cold snap!
Wehrly the Jewellers sponsored Winter League Draw for Sunday 10 th Feb.
Please note that the West of Ireland and all GUI events for the year have opened for entry on Golfnet. Please also note that it is your handicap on the closing date that is used for entry. The Robbie rule was brought in after the first West qualifier in 2013. Maximum handicap allowed to enter the West is 5.4. The qualifier was the brain child of the then Captain Terry Brady. It has proved to be a great success.
