CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (CPTED) CPTED IN PARKING LOTS: Very little time is devoted to parking designs in typical architectural education programs, and assignments for such projects are often relegated to the most inexperienced members of the architectural teams. As a result, active security systems are often needed to correct problems created by architectural designs that failed to incorporate CPTED. 16

To properly defend yourself, you must learn how to block and/or evade an attack. High block: intended to protect the head from an overhead strike (typically by some type of weapon). Middle block: intended to protect the head and face blows or strikes coming the left or right. Deflection block: intended to deflect or redirect a punch, stab. Or grab. 18

Low block: intended to stop and/or deflect a kick to the groin area or lower extremities. Emergency block: This block is intended to protect the face and head from surprise and/or multiple strike attack. The defender covers the face while using the elbows to block. The intention is to try to get the attacker to injure his/her hand on the defender s elbows. 25
