M. The Pit (5,4) GAME The Panthers continue their three-game road trip heading to New Mexico Sunday, Dec. 8 to take on the Lobos. This will be the first time in program history that EIU will face New Mexico on the court. EIU heads into the game at 4-7 overall after dropping their most recent game at Western Illinois 83-6. The Leathernecks earned the victory over EIU after finishing the game -for-8 from beyond the three-point line. UNM is currently 4-5 this season having won their last game over UTEP 79-66. WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU? Senior Erica Brown continued her tremendous season recording her eighth game this season in double-figures at Western Illinois. Brown set a new career high scoring 5 points against the Leathernecks while pulling down eight rebounds and adding four assists, three blocks, and two steals. The Hoyleton, Ill. native currently leads the team averaging.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Brown is third in the OVC for both total rebounds and blocks so far this year. She is also just 3 rebounds away from being the 5th member of the 6 career rebound club at EIU. HOT POTATO The Panthers recorded over assists for only the second time this season in the game at Western Illinois earning dimes. EIU s previous game high was 6 set in their seasonopener against Millikin. Four different Panthers led the team with four assists each. As a team, the Panthers are fourth in the OVC for total assists with 56 and assist per game averaging 4. assists. Grace Lennox leads the team averaging four assists per game, ranking fifth in the conference with 44 assists on the year. Black was hired May 6, 3 to take over the program following a long career as an assistant coach, most recently at Ohio State. While with the Buckeyes program Black helped coach the team to seven straight NCAA Tournament appearances including six Big Ten Conference Championships. Black has been part of 34 winning basketball seasons both as a player and a coach. She began her playing career at Saint Joseph s University helping the Hawks make four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. After graduation in 988, she played professionally overseas in Tasmania (989-96). She played in the WNBA from 999-5 earning WNBA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Nicknamed The Pest Black is the only women s professional player to record a quadruple double with points, 4 rebounds, assists and steals in a game. Black s career record is 5-6, 6-3 in OVC games. LAST TIME OUT Eastern Illinois fell to a hot-shooting Western Illinois 83-6 in their last game. The Panthers managed to hang with the Leathernecks throughout most of the game despite a big second quarter performance for WIU in which Western Illinois out-scored EIU -6. EIU got as close as points in the final period of the game after opening the fourth quarter on a -3 run, but WIU closed the game out scoring the final nine points to secure the win. Western Illinois finished the game going -for-8 from the three-point line with five players scoring in double-figures. SCOUTING NEW MEXICO The Lobos host Eastern Illinois at 4-5 on the season after winning their most recent match over UTEP 79-66. UNM is a very efficient team leading the Mountain West conference in fewest fouls per game averaging only 3.9 fouls. New Mexico also leads the nation in defensive rebounds averaging 34 boards per game. Senior Richelle Van Der Keijl leads the team averaging 6 points and.8 rebounds per game. Van Der Keijl is second in the Mountain West for points, rebounds, and blocked shots while ranking in the top-5 in the country for field goal percentage shooting 6.4 percent this season. After taking two games off from earning a block, Erica Brown has been shutting down opponents over the last four games earning 7 blocks in that span and averaging 4.3 blocks per game. Brown recorded all three of EIU s blocks against Western Illinois. The senior ranks third in the OVC for both total blocks and blocks per game averaging.5 blocks this season. Her 8 season blocks is also th highest in the NCAA. The Panthers once again proved they are expert pick-pocketers recording eight steals against Western Illinois in their last game. So far this year EIU has racked up steals to lead the OVC and rank 33rd in the country for total steals. The Panthers average 9. steals per game led by Grace Lennox whose steals this season are second most in the conference. EIU struggled from the free throw line at Western Illinois going -for-7 from the charity stripe. Despite the Panther s performance at the line their season free throw percentage is still 7.4 percent ranking them third in the OVC. EIU still leads the conference in both made and attempted free throws this year. Grace Lennox was the only Panther to make a free throw at Western Illinois. The junior is fifth in the conference with 3 made free throws this season. Eastern Illinois finished the game against WIU shooting above their season average going 45.3 percent from the floor. The Panthers are currently shooting 4.7 percent this season which is second in the conference only to Southeast Missouri. Halle Stull leads the team shooting 5 percent followed by Erica Brown with 49 percent. Erica Brown and Grace Lennox have batteries that run for days as both players lead the team in minutes played. Brown played all 4 minutes of the game at Western Illinois, while Lennox spent 39 minutes on the floor. EIU owns the top three spots in the OVC for total minutes played with Lennox leading the conference followed by Brown and Allison Van Dyke.
