The Jefferson Shooter Official publication of The Jefferson State Shooting Association Inc. JUNE 2015 JSSA P.O. Box 7178 Klamath Falls, Or. 97602 YOUR LOCAL SHOOTING SPORTS ASSOCIATION OBAMA TRASHES CMP 1911 SALES! The U.S. Army has proposed providing the Civilian Marksmanship Program with 100,000 surplus 1911A1.45 cal. pistols for purchase by law abiding civilians through the federally regulated channels of the congressionally approved program. The Obama administration opposes the proposal (of course!) The Huffington post claims that the guns would be sold over the internet or by mail order without a background check. The administration also claims the guns would be untraceable. These so-called justifications are just so much sheep dip as anyone remotely familiar with the CMP knows. Certain qualifications must be met before applying to purchase any CMP firearm namely: evidence of participation in a related competitive match, a background check must be completed and then the serial numbered gun will be ok d for shipment to the applicant of record providing all state and federal laws have been observed in the transfer Some may recall when Hillary scuttled the import of 750,000 M-1 carbines from S. Korea sometime back with the specious argument that they may fall into the wrong hands. We know these are just excuses the gun control bunch use to prevent exercising our constitutional rights. COMING EVENTS *************************** LEVER GUN SILHOUETTE 6TH MULTIGUN 14TH OHA YOUTH DAY 20TH Affiliated with the National Rifle Association of America Oregon State Shooting Association Member, Oregon Association of Shooting Ranges Editor-Floyd Hancock MINNESOTA PROHIBTS GUN GRAB! Minnesota has joined 40 other states when it passed a law prohibiting authorities from confiscating or regulating firearms during a declared emergency. With an eye towards the government excesses and illegal confiscations of firearms during the aftermath of hurricane Katrina the Minnesota legislature passed a bill that protects it s citizens from those actions by police or any state authority. In 2007 Oregon passed similar legislation and in 2006 president George W. Bush signed the Federal Disaster Recovery and Personal Protection Act to give federal protections against the same illegal actions by federal authorities. NY AND NJ PROPOSE MORE GUN CONTROL NY Representative Carolyn Maloney taking over from former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy has introduced HR2380 in congress that would require background checks at all gun shows in the U.S. The bill would also require gun show promoters to register with the attorney general and keep a record of all vendors. A week later she introduced HR2546 that would require all gun owners to carry liability insurance with a fine of $100,000 for noncompliance. (Cont d on pg 4 gun control) MEMBERS ATTENTION! Your club dues are now overdue. As a convenience to members there is an application on page 3 for renewal and a discounted offer for a joint sportsman s park JSSA membership. The sporting clays opener on May 9th saw some new changes in the course. Stations 2, 3, 5, and 6 have been rearranged with some added shooting positions. Stations 4 and 7 were by passed this time and 1, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 shooting positions remained the same with some trap relocations. Station 2 with the decrepit row boat now consists of a scissor lift with 2 traps on the lift platform and a concrete pad for the lift between two shooting cages. The lift will eventually be housed inside a shed to protect from the elements both weather wise and human mischief caused. Springing teal has been moved to position 3 and position 5 has had an additional shooting position added. Position 6 that was unused most of last season also has added another shooting position. Bryan says we had 37 shooters and that it was more than any of the shoots last season. With the new changes maybe we will be having more shooters. **************** The Friends of NRA banquet will be on October 17th this year at the usual venue of the events center at the fairgrounds. Reporting of ammo sales over 1,000 Roger says we have two slots we can fill: one for rounds in any 5 day period would also be reported to open, limited 10 and one for Limited. the feds. Limited match, October 3-6. Many may recall the Firearms Owners Protection Act of Open and Limited 10 match October 7-10. 1986 that abolished the ammunition record keeping requirement as totally useless to law enforcement, an action they whole heartedly supported. Do New York and New Jersey supply all the gun control freaks, outside of California that is? Please contact Roger Schmidt at schmidtroger@charter.net if you are interested. IRON OWL This year marked the 5th annual Iron Owl Challenge hosted by the OIT Veterans Administration. Like previous years we saw teams from across the country visit Klamath Falls and compete. The Navy and Air Force academy, Colorado Springs ROTC and Kingsley Field went head to head for top spot in a three day/night military challenge. Sunday morning, teams arrived at the Richard Wickline 600 yard range for the final day's events. They tested their marksmanship skills with best 3 shot group, most hits on target at 625 yards, 10 shot barricade at 200 yards, improvised shooting positions at 100 yards and a close quarters combat course. Although the teams were pretty rough and tired they all performed well with the Air Force taking first place for the weekend events. Erick Bishop. JSSA HIGH POWER BARRICADE IRON OWL 4
