MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT SHAWN WILKIE Hello, neighbors. I m going to start my message this month on a melancholy note, as a former boss of mine passed away recently. She was a larger-than-life woman who affected a tremendous number of people s lives in a positive way, and with her passing the world lost a force of nature far too soon. Reflecting on the impact she had on those around her, I m reminded of the effect we each have on the people we come into contact with regularly. Other than family and co-workers, there are few places that happens more often than it does right here in our own neighborhood. Each day, we have the opportunity to approach every interaction even just a quick wave while passing another resident in a positive way or a negative one. And the sum of those interactions will be what we re remembered for once we re gone. The amount of effort it takes to reach out to a neighbor to check on him or her, or to stop to say hello when you see someone doing something, is so small, yet the positive impact it makes can be so tremendous. Often, we don t even realize the extent to which showing a small kindness to others can brighten their day until we experience it ourselves or unfortunately, experience the opposite. I hope when I m gone, people will have positive memories of moments they shared with me. With this reminder, I ll certainly be making a more conscious effort to put forth a positive attitude in all my interactions. I know I won t always succeed, but I ll be a better person for having tried. I hope you ll join me in doing so, even when you find the people you now and the things going on around you frustrating. Your neighbor, Shawn UPCOMING COPPERFIELD BOARD ELECTIONS Three CHA Board of Directors positions will be up for elections in October 2017.
