The Weekly Bias Newsletter Tuesday, 8 th January 2019 Good afternoon everyone Things are starting to pick up again around the Club. I hope that you have all had a lovely rest and enjoyed being with family and friends. We look forward to seeing you here. If you would like a night off from the kitchen, phone us and book a table for Friday night. We have a new menu which looks fantastic. Ladies Bowls Patsy Smith, Captain Now you have all had a well-earned break it is time for some reminders. Thursday 10 th January. Halo Unisex Salon Split Fours. Names must be in by Tues 8th (tomorrow). BA Australia dress code. Tuesday 15 th January. Nominated Pairs. This is an opportunity to choose your own partners. It is a social day so neat casual dress is the order of the day. We will play two games, with each game a different format of pairs all going to plan. Our sponsors are planning to join us so we would like lots of members playing or attending later in the day. Wednesday 16 th Am only is set aside to align the Triples Championship. I would like to do the draw on Thursday 10 th as only one rink (2Teams) will play on Wednesday. At this point in time we have 17 teams. If any player is not going to be available make arrangements for your replacement before Thursday. If there are three players wanting a game also let me know. An even number of teams is desirable. The championship will continue on Thursday 17 th. NOVICES: The chart is up for this event. I want names in by Thursday so I can arrange a date/s for play. SWBZ ILRR FOURS February. The dates in the book are correct but the days are not. It should read Wed 6 Thurs 7. The IZRR Pairs venue has been changed from Beverley to Northam.

Men s Bowls Doug Myers, Captain We have altered the structure of Wednesday and Saturday social bowls, playing two games of ten ends instead of the traditional one game of 20 ends. Bowlers have been asked a few times if they want to continue with this arrangement and most of them support it. We tried running three-bowl pairs last Saturday and there was a dispute about the number of ends that should be played in these events. I had not thought that matter through properly and now realise that we should play two games of 12 ends as we do in the Winter Nominated Pairs. The club welcomed the WA Fireries bowling group for games of social bowls over the weekend. This was a lead-up to Australasian Fireries carnival scheduled for early March 2019, being hosted by Halls Head and Port Bouvard Bowling Clubs. The Fireries were able to field 8 teams of four while Halls Head had 12 teams on the greens. After a fair bit of juggling, all teams were sorted out and everyone seemed to have an enjoyable day. Bob Paul s experience and quiet manner in the match office allowed us to stitch it all together albeit a little behind the scheduled start time. Hugh Donnelly and Mike Barker did a great job with cooking and serving up the lunch for about 100 people. They were well supported by Event Coordinator Max Hughes who organised the provisions. I thank Bob Plater and Barrie Starbuck for setting up the greens before our visitors arrived at the club. Keith Guelfi is going to run advanced bowls coaching sessions aimed at fairly experienced bowlers who haven t had opportunities or exposure to all pennant team positions. It is hoped that these sessions will equip bowlers with knowledge to help their understanding of roles played by different pennant team players. Place your names on the sheet that has been placed on the men s notice board. The number of bowlers playing in the Friday Mixed Scroungers is back up after the Christmas/New Year holiday period. Seventy-five bowlers showed up last Friday and the day was won by a consistent Geoff Stubbins. Neil Potter was runner/up and Ian Thompson won the consolation prize. Members of the Match Committee continue to provide substantial support in preparing and running the big number of men s bowls events in this club. That support is greatly appreciated.
