Wood Splinters - October 2016 A Message From Our President SHOW TIME!!! Yep, it s October already. And that means the show is less than 2 weeks off. Kyle is probably going to add a show progress report somewhere here in the newsletter. I know we can still use volunteers for most jobs. We can also use small carvings for our hourly door prizes. And don t forget stuff for the silent auction--linda Murphy will probably take whatever you have. I understand we still have some seats available for the Saturday banquet it s going to be begin as soon as the show closes Saturday and shouldn t run long no long speeches or award presentations. SEMINAR LINE-UP 2017 Jim Hiser has just released the 2017 seminar line-up (it s probably attached to the end of this newsletter). Jim s got a real nice mix of local and national carvers but some classes are already filled so if you see something that appeals to you, better get a deposit into the mail to Jim. For those of you who haven t had the chance to get around to any of the national shows/competitions or even some of the other local shows, you need to know that Jim Hiser (& Joan) has developed probably the most extensive and complete carving instruction program offered by any club (or any organization). No other group comes close to the program that our club offers. Just as important, Jim has kept the class prices as close to the bone as possible making these classes a relative bargain. MEETING PROGRAM No program this month but there will be extensive pre-show details that have to be covered. If there s time, some of us can help Linda get the silent auction sorted. Next month, Jim Obenstine and Mike Nowakowski are teaming up to do a presentation on scroll sawing. Should be a good one. Thanks to Rick Baker for last month s presentation the Ward competition in Ocean City. ELECTION Voting is at the November meeting but we have to announce the slate of candidates at our October meeting. Still looking for a president and vice-president. If no one steps up, we re going to pull names out of a hat. TUESDAY NIGHT CARVING: Linda s got a whole new project schedule worked up taking us into January. See out web site for details. THURSDAY NIGHT POWER CARVING: It has returned! Rick Baker has details 717-334-1292. Next Meeting: October 16, 2 pm Program: Show Prep
