August 2018 Volume 16 Issue 8 Flying Pilgrims Aero News Next Meeting: September 19 th, 2018 at 7:00pm Location To Be Determined Inside This Issue Approval of the Minutes Officer s Reports Committee Reports Unfinished Business New Business Meeting Adjourne Show and Tell President Bill Slabey opened the general meeting at the field at 7PM with 30 members present. New members plus old members were vigilant despite the heat. Minutes from the July meeting are the contents of the July newsletter; Bill Slabey asked for approval of the minutes. Motion was made by Larry to approve, seconded, and a show of hands approved. Officer s Reports: Treasurer s Report: Jordan reported to the membership that the just-applied seal-coat cost was $2600 and has been paid. She reported that our balance is above what it was this time last year, and she mentioned that membership in our club continues to grow and is now about 153 paid members. President s Report: Pit-Area end fences have been moved as was approved in November 2017. Bill reminded the membership that this Sunday, August 19 th, is the last fun-fly. He also mentioned that the Fall Phase- Out Giant Scale Airshow will be presented September 15-16, which is before our next club meeting. This means that we need to take care of all decisions and volunteer help for the event at THIS MEETING, since our next monthly meeting will be after this important event. The center field weeds will be mowed just prior to this event, as will the North-South walkout path be mowed short to facilitate downed-plane retrieval. Bill brought to the attention of all members the newly-coated runway and taxiways. He reported that there were twice as many cracks filled this time than at the last coating of our 5-year- 1
old runway. Even the helicopter pad was re-sealed, and the re-striping this time included edge striping as well as the center line striping. It looks fantastic! Vice President s report: Joe had no pressing information to report. Secretary s report: Minutes; approved. You are reading the new report. Committee Reports: Weed-Wacking Party Several club members showed up early on Sunday with their weed-wackers and lawnblowers to clean and clear the edges of the runway and taxiways so that the planned seal-coating of the runway will get the full advantage of application right to the edge for maximum coverage. It was a string-trimming-hot-air-frenzy, all for a good cause and a nice work get-together for those involved. Bill Slabey took pictures, and Jack Kezelian took attendance, and here is that accounting: 2
Club members who participated in this committee work detail were: Jack Kezelian, Bill Slabley, Glen Rex, Doug Whitney, Don Borkin, Joe Nazelli, Tom Ranta, Dan Debens, Steve Cecale, John Alaniva, Rick Reynolds, Steve Pincek, Matt Delleva, John Lane, Jonathan Judd, Dave Pegg, and Pete Cavagnaro. Unfinished Business: We still need volunteers for all the tasks necessary for the Fall Phase-Out coming in September. See Upcoming Events below for details. Upcoming Events Last Fun-Fly Only one fun-fly left! Pete Cavagnaro, who is a relatively new member of the club, was present at this meeting to remind all that he will sponsor the August 19 th Fun Fly. Dan Debens showed his gratitude by offering to help Pete with the fun-fly. Fall Phase-Out Giant Scale Airshow. Sat-Sun, September 15-16 The Fall Phase-Out is a very big event and requires more hosts and helpers than any of our other events. Jack is the Event Manager and (Contest Director) for the September event, and he needs people to run the food stand, to help with the Friday set-up of the parking and field for the event, and people to handle the parking and collection of donated parking fees, among many other duties. Jack brought to the last meeting the sign-up sheets for all the needed duties and urged members to sign on the sheets for the duties they would like to volunteer their assistance. This is the largest money-making event that the Flying Pilgrims has each year and is the reason that we have such a great runway and an additional east-end shelter. Many of you have signed up on these sheets and it is well appreciated. There are still more tasks that need workers, so if you want to be a part of this event, please sign up soon or contact Jack Kezelian, His info is on your membership list. Some points to remember about the procedures and rules of the Fall Phase-Out as set by Jack Kezelian, the CD and Event Manager. Jack states that this is not a club fun-fly, it is a made for profit fun-fly. So if you are not working the event, he does not want you to be in the pit area, but you are to be behind the spectator fence. This goes for members of the club as well as non-members. Jack has also emphasized that if you are not working this event, you are not to be in the shelters either. Only those working the event and registered flyers and flyer assistants can be in the pit-areas and shelters. The list of jobs that qualify are on the sign-up sheets. 3
