EACC NEWS East Aurora Country Club Member Newsletter October, 2016 Board of Directors Bryan Smith Message from the President: October, 2016 President Rudy Ruschmann Vice President House Chairman Vince Rowland Treasurer Golf Chairman Dick Hillegas Secretary Grounds Richard Day Grounds Chairman The longest and nicest summer any of us can recall is now officially in the books. All three of our Managers George, Drew and Dave have worked full-tilt for the past several months to smoothly and seamlessly deliver outstanding hospitality, course conditions and service to our members and guests, and they deserve our thanks for a great peak season well done guys! On the financial front, through August the debit side of or Club operations is doing well, with expenses running below budget. However, the late cancellation of a few Monday summer outings has caused revenue to lag budget. We are actively campaigning to fill a few prime Monday event dates in the 2017 calendar, so if you know of any potential opportunities to recruit an existing or new house event or golf outing to EACC, please contact George or Dave and they will handle the rest. 2016 in-house events continue to sell out regularly, membership is at its highest count 220 plus in nearly a decade, and we are poised to make some significant facility improvements to our Club. It s an exciting time to be a member at EACC recruit a friend or relative to join in the fun! See you on the course! Clubhouse News Greetings All! As we head into Fall and Winter we will be transitioning to our Winter schedule. We have however extended hours through October, and still have some great events coming up! It s been a very busy summer with most events sold out and record numbers in daily traffic. Thanks very much for the daily support of the clubhouse and dining operations and a continued thanks for advanced calls when interested in dining, it is how we staff and prepare daily. We will also be rolling out our Fall/Winter menu soon so keep an eye on your email for announcements. We look forward to seeing you soon! Thank you, George Mintzer, House Manager Grounds with Drew Summer has come to a close and, so far, fall has not been much different. Beautiful weather has made getting those late season rounds in much more pleasant. It looks as if we are in for continued good weather through the start of October, so come out and enjoy. Fall is one of the prettiest times of year and the changing leaves are already showing up. We will soon be into full leaf cleanup mode. Did you know that a significant chunk of our fuel usage for the year is used in the months of October and November? Tractors and blowers running nonstop to clean leaves up before the snow arrives requires a large investment. We do our best to stay on top of it in order for you to continue to enjoy the course through the fall. Aerification is almost complete. Tee and approach aerification will take place the first week of October. We hope to be done by the end of the day on Tuesday October 4 th. We plan on doing this with little to no disruption to play. Thanks for your patience once again. Lastly, as we inch closer to the end of our 100 th year I would like to thank you all for your kind words and thoughtful feedback this past season. It was a tough one and we are proud of our accomplishments through the 2016 drought. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of EACC. See you on the Course Drew Thompson, CGCS 2

Matt Klass was victorious in the Director s Cup as he won the championship match against runner up Matt Hasselback. The ABC finished as follows: A Champion Sean Schoenborn A Runner Up Rich Day B Champion Mike Ervin B Runner Up Ann Woloszynski C Champion Dennis Seeley C Runner Up Mike Woloszynski 2016 Pro Day was a huge success. Thank you all for your tremendous support. ***Please make sure that you use all of your 2016 Free Guest Golf Passes prior to year-end, as they will not be able to be rolled over into 2017. Any unused guest passes will expire at the end of 2016, so if you have someone you d like to treat, we encourage you to do it earlier than later. Who knows, maybe they ll want to become a part of our EACC family in 2017. Additionally, all golf shop credit will expire on October 31 st, so be sure to use it! There is plenty of great merchandise in the shop. Please note that on October 1 st we will be starting our fall rates. You will be able to bring a guest to the club for a discounted guest fee of $40.00! Make sure to take advantage of the great weather and great conditions! David Jones PGA Head Professional. 3

Associate Board October Newsletter Hi Everyone! Hope you're still enjoying this great golfing and walking weather. This year, our Associate Board is excited to sponsor a Ladies Fall Social. Liz Sgroi of Prima Oliva will be presenting an Olive Oil Tasting for us. All club ladies are welcomemembers, wives, golfers and non-golfers. Come and join us for a casual, relaxing evening. There will be products and baskets available for wonderful holiday gifts. Remember the lovely President's Ball is on November 5th. We will be honoring our 100th year President, Bryan Smith. We owe him sincere thanks for leading such an outstanding and special year for our Club's Anniversary. For our locker room project, we thank Dawn Davis for her stylish wall cabinet selection. Also, Carol Smith so generously donated a beautiful Arts and Craft print. Both really helped finish the project so nicely. Thanks again. Finally, our magical Breakfast with Santa will be on Saturday, December 3rd. The buffet is delicious and Santa is truly wonderful! Hope to see you out this fall and at the Social! All the best, Cathy Melas, Associate Board President 4

18 HOLE GOLF NEWS The season for the 18 Hole Ladies Group has officially ended with golf and the closing lunch. It was a spectacular year weather wise with many events to keep us busy. I hope everyone enjoyed our 100 year celebrations. We would like to thank George and his staff for their part in making our events go smoothly. Thank you also to Dave, Kevin and Brandon in the Pro Shop. This year was certainly a challenging year to start at EACC with a lot to learn and assimilate. We enjoyed working with each of them. They consistently went out of their way to try to please everyone. Lastly, thanks to those of you in the group who assisted with all of the activities and special tournaments. We could not have had a successful year without you. We pass the baton on to Charmaine Kaes who will be next year s chair.. Georgia Rosenthal-18 Hole Chairman Nine Hole Notes The Ladies Nine Hole League wrapped up their 2016 season on September 29th with golf on the back nine and a lovely luncheon afterward. As always, we are extremely grateful to all of the staff at East Aurora Country Club for consistently doing their best so we can be sure to have an amazing golf experience every week. At our closing luncheon, we recognized those ladies who have improved the most over the past several months. Cathy Melas won in the overall category; we had a three way tie between Sharon Kettner, Marilyn Marky and Judy Smith for most improved on the front nine; and Lori Peters won most improved on the back nine. Well done! We hope to see everyone joining us once again in April 2017! Donna McKenna & Carol Smith, Co Chairs 6

MORE FROM THE MULLIGANS Or maybe less...there has been an amazing continuation of our "greatest golf summer ever" and as I peck this out on my computer I'm dreaming of Mulligan's golf well into November. We can only hope! Since the last newsletter the "Bill McNamara" senior invitational tournament has been contested. It was marked by great camaraderie, great grub, and great golf. A full field of very competitive golfers vied for the prize. The Gross winners were Ron Olson and his guest Chris Cadigan with a score of 74. the overall net champions were Dan Penfold and his guest Chris Wright who carded a net 57. Congratulations to our winners! As our season winds down I have found myself thinking about the possibility and difficulty of hitting the ball while wearing skis. This of course led to the question if you could hit it how could you find it. I haven't gotten to putting yet. I am soliciting any help or suggestions to properly address these challenges. Winter golf at East Aurora would be really COOL! It's going to be a long winter and I can already feel withdrawal pains beginning! Don Hayes, Mulligans President EACC Social Bowling Come join us for some fun and socializing. Get to know other club members. You can bowl one month, two months or every month, you pick the dates.
