Ride to Ribeyes 10/24/18 It was a cold and cloudy morning as six bikes pulled away from the Marathon Station in Blairsville. Temperature was a balmy 38 degrees and every rider had their multi-layered attire as well as heated clothing, gloves, grips and seats turned to HI. We quickly rode around the Blairsville Courthouse and headed south to get over Blood Mountain and hopefully find a warmer zone. And we did. Riding Hwy. 129 through the Turner Corner area resulted in warmer temperatures and some signs that the clouds were opening to show us some blue sky. Arriving at the Ingles Store in Cleveland, we found two additional Blue J's waiting for us. With the weather warming, riders were shedding a few layers of clothing as the temperature was now in the 60's. So now with seven bikes and 11 Blue J's we rode through Cleveland, GA and took Hwy 115 Eastward. With a right turn on Duncan Ridge Rd. and left on Pea Ridge Rd., we rode into the village of Cornelia, Ga. Here, with only one early turn, we arrived at our destination - Ribeyes Restaurant. The waiter quickly set us up at two tables and allowed us to have some privacy in the side room. Almost everyone in our group ordered the hamburger but each was finished off with different add-ons. All seemed to be happy with their food choice and no complaints regarding the price either. Leaving the Ribeyes, we headed back westward. Taking Duncan Bridge Rd. northward, we connected with Hwy. 75 just south of Helen, GA. Riding through Helen we were made aware that OctoberFest was in full swing as there were lots of folks on the sidewalks and in the restaurants. Before exiting the village, we turned onto the shortcut that took us to Hwy. 75A and onto Richard Russell Scenic Hwy. With very little traffic, the ride up the south side of the mountain was enjoyable as the sun was shinning brightly. At the topmost pull-out we stopped to enjoy the view towards Atlanta and to take advantage of the photo op. From here we rode the north side down to Craig Gap Road which is always a fun back-road. Leaving Craig Gap Road at Hwy. 180 we lost some riders as they turned for home. From 180 we turned onto Town Creek School Rd. and lost some more riders with the remainder riding into Blairsville and Young Harris. Fun ride even with the cold start. 110 miles & smiles Roger LeRoy 5
