To all competitors, coaches, officials, and spectators, It is my pleasure to invite you to the Southeastern Winter Battle VI Championships on January 23, 2010, in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA at the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School gymnasium just south of Chattanooga, TN. Last year s 5 th annual event was the best event yet and we look for greater all around expansion for this year s event. The opening ceremony begins at 10:00am EST after the Coaches/Officials meeting at 9:30am. You can pre-register by Sat, Jan 16, for $50.00 or after Jan 16 for $60.00. It is highly recommended that all competitors preregister. I must have all competitors information by Friday, Jan 22, for easier bracketing (name, sex, age, belt, weight). If you plan to register at the door, please contact me beforehand with your registration information by e-mail. The venue is a large gym with ample parking and seating. The competition floor will feature MATTED RINGS and RINGMASTER ELECTRONIC SCORING along with plenty of room for warming up. All players and their coaches will report to a separate staging area where all divisions will be confirmed and agreed upon by coaches. Each player s first fight will be matched as close as possible. Players from the same school will be placed on opposite ends of the roster to lessen the chance of fighting each other until gold medal match. The fighting will be done in a double elimination format. If you are pre-registered, you do not have to arrive until your staging time. Please make note of your staging time. You must arrive by 10:00am EST to register at the door. Divisions may be merged to ensure at least 4 competitors. Therefore, we plan to have high caliber competition in all divisions. In the last five years, the Winter Battle has welcomed players from over 45 teams coming from TN, GA, AL, SC, KY, FL, and Oregon! Many competitors have fought 4 or 5, and even 6 times! This tournament is designed to gain valuable ring experience while giving you your money s worth for competing. ***The current Junior and Senior National Team of the USAT and AAU (and AAU Cadet Team) are invited to compete FREE OF CHARGE!*** WINTER BATTLE FEATURES!!! Fight more divisions! Any competitor may move up and fight with an upper age division after fighting their regular division. No competitor will fight in a division lower than their present belt rank. Samurai Swords to all 1 st Place Winners! The 1 st Place Winner in the Black Belt Divisions will receive an authentic steel Samurai Sword (unsharpened) and the Color Belt Divisions a Wooden Bokken Sword. REIMBURSEMENT! Black Belts 16-older that compete will have their registration fee reimbursed to them that referee/judge during the tournament. You must attend the Officials/Coaches Meeting at 9:30am. St. Jude Fundraiser! See the last page of the application for information on raising money for St. Jude. All Black Belts, Coaches, and Referees should attend the referee meeting held at 9:30am. All schools bringing athletes should plan to bring at least one referee. Each team will be issued one (1) FREE Coach s Pass. Additional Coach s Passes will be $10.00. Coaches are to complete their info on one of their player s applications. Equipment will be sold at the tournament site that will have uniforms, belts, and sparring equipment. All players are to have their own equipment. The coordinators of this tournament have planned and worked many hours to make this a successful and memorable event. Officials will do their best to promote fairness and a politics-free environment for all players and all schools. Rules and Regulations of Winter Battle 2010 This tournament will be a sparring-only Olympic-Style Taekwondo Tournament. Divisions will be divided according to age, sex, weight, and belt (White-Orange, Green-Blue, Brown-Red, and Black). Schedule of Events (E.S.T.) 7:00-10:00am Day-of Registration Check-In 9:30 Officials/Coaches Meeting 10:00 Opening Ceremony 10:30 7-under All Belts 11:30 8-9 All Belts 12:30pm 18-up All Belts 2:00 10-11 All Belts 3:30 12-13 All Belts 4:30 14-17 All Belts Equipment All players must wear headgear (White or Red/Blue), Olympic chest protector w/red & blue scoring areas, forearm pads, shin/instep protection, mouthpiece, and cup (males). WTF Gloves and Socks are optional. Uniforms may be any color. Winter Battle Sparring Rules For All Competitors, Duration of Fights shall be: Two (2) Continuous Rounds of One (1) Minute (30 second rest) All divisions CAN kick to the head, but will be LIGHT CONTACT for juniors 13-under. For Adult Black Belts 18-up, weight divisions shall be: Male -130 / 130-155 / 155-180 / 180+ Female -110 / 110-130 / 130-150 / 150+ Competitors may come back at the next staging time and fight again in the next age group up (at NO charge) if there are competitors in their weight division. You must have a coach or parent with you to enter a second division. 14-17 may fight with the 18-up at 12:30 and then again at 4:30. AWARDS: Unsharpened Samurai Swords to all Black Belt 1 st Place Winners Wooden Bokkens to all Color Belt 1 st Place Winners Medals to 2 nd and 3 rd Place. ALL COMPETITORS WILL RECEIVE AN AWARD!!! In the event of a tie, the players go on to fight a Sudden Death round for first point scored. There will be an In-House Point Gap Rule of 10 points. COACHES INFO 1 FREE Coach s Pass to each school. Additional Coach s Passes are available for $10.00. Fill out your info on one of your competitor s application forms. You will receive Coach s Credentials at the event. Pictures and videotaping is freely permitted and Team/School banners are encouraged. Players and Coaches will be E-mailed a full roster of athletes on Thurs, Jan 21. Black Belt Competitors 16-up will have their competition fee reimbursed that attend the Officials Meeting AND helps referee, judge, or run the computers throughout the tournament. St. Jude Fundraiser New to this year s Winter Battle, we will be running a kicking contest to raise money for St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. Competitors pay a minimum of $3.00 to see out many double round kicks they can do in 20 seconds. You may donate and compete as many times as you want and the winner who completes the most kicks will be given a plaque. All money raised will be donated straight to St. Jude. Founded in 1962 by Danny Thomas in Memphis, TN, its mission is to find cures to childhood cancers and other diseases through research and treatment. No child is ever turned away due to a family s inability to pay. Their fundraising organization, ALSAC, collects donations on international levels in order to help advance the science of treatment and prevention of childhood diseases.
