Friday 15 June 2018 Dates to remember Thursday 21 June - School photos Friday 6 July - Last day of Term 2 GLENTUNNEL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Tena koutou katoa parents and caregivers, Next week on Thursday the 21 st of June we will be visited by a photographer to have the school photos taken. This is an annual event where the photographer will take photos of each class and the students within the class. Siblings can also have their photo taken by the photographer. Please remember to wear the appropriate school uniform that is clean and tidy. This is your chance to create a wonderful memory that you can reflect on when you are older. Make it a memory to be proud of by bringing a big smile, having tidy hair and by wearing a clean and tidy uniform. Congratulations to Nikau, Lewis and Bede for making it to the Canterbury Cross Country event. Well done to you all, and I hope you enjoy the experience and run next week. You should be proud of yourselves for making it to this level of competition. We had some outstanding results in the Canterbury Gymnastics event this week. Well done to all the students who challenged themselves by competing in this event. I admire the dedication you have shown over the weeks leading up to the competition and it is great to see that all your hard work has paid off. We have another group of students to be proud of this week as the school speech winners participated in the Malvern Speech Competition. The courage shown by you all when standing and speaking in front of a large crowd was incredible. You are all very brave and did an amazing job. Over the last two weeks it has been truly wonderful to see so many students challenge themselves in different ways. It is great to offer them the opportunities to show and develop their individual strengths, or to persevere and challenge themselves at something they are not confident at. Each experience providing the chance to learn something new and to build resilience and confidence in oneself. Take care everyone and enjoy your weekend. E noho ra Dion Stechmann

Canterbury Gymnastic Competition On Wednesday the 13 th June, fourteen Glentunnel students competed in the Canterbury Artistic Gymnastic Competition. Our level 1 gymnasts, Holly, Jake and Chloe, woke up around six o clock, to get right across town to the Christchurch School of Gymnastics at QEII. They competed well on the four apparatus of beam, bars, floor and vault and were proud of their improvements and effort. The level two gymnasts, Mikayla, Lexi, Emy and Yasmin competed next. Lexi came an impressive 18 th out of 70 competitors. Our final seven gymnasts were in the iron level. Our Glentunnel 1 team of Jamie, Elsie, Lewis and Leni came 2 nd in the teams event and our Glentunnel 2 team of Siobhan, Nola and Lani came 3 rd. We also had individual certificates with Jamie coming 3 rd on floor and Lani 1 st on beam. Overall Jamie came an impressive 12 th, which would have been higher if not for a fall on beam. I would like to say a huge congratulations to these students who have been training at lunchtime each week leading up to this competition. I hope you all enjoyed the experience and I look forward to taking more Glentunnel gymnasts next year. Mrs Sutherland Next Monday, Jamie will be competing in the Canterbury Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition at Olympia Stadium in Wigram. She has learnt the routines at the Darfield Gym Club on a Friday, with her coach Bronwyn Berry. It is the first time Glentunnel has had a student compete in this competition and we would all like to wish Jamie a fun and successful experience.
