House Point Cup Weekly Winners The House Points earned this week were Silbury Avebury Ridgeway Kennet 596pts 580pts 564pts 559pts Well done everyone! Harvest Assembly THANK YOU Inter House Poetry Competition Final Well done to all the children, throughout the school, who took part in the Poetry Competition heats and year group finals this week. Today we were treated to the GRAND FINAL, where we heard poetry from pupils, in all phases of the school, representing their houses. It was a very close contest and the judges had a really difficult task picking the winning house. After long deliberation, the winners for 2018 are: AVEBURY The food is being given to local families in need. Footballers win first league match Congratulations to our footballers on winning their first League match of the season. Visiting St. Leonard s in Blunsdon they played through the wind and misty rain to secure a 3-1 victory. All played really well, with match winning tackles from Ollie and 3 goals from Jay, but man of the match for his controlled dominance of the midfield was Jesse. The team: Oshotare, Joe, Arthur, Jesse, Elliott (c), Luis, Jay, Oliver, Morgan. These players have three matches next term. 7 th Nov- Home v Grange, 14 th Nov- Away v Red Oaks and 19 th Nov- Home to undefeated and high scoring Peatmoor. Lunchtime Orders Please note that we have had some issues with KS2 children either forgetting their lunch orders or refusing to eat what their parents have chosen for them. Next term we will be reintroducing a system to KS2, which involves the issuing of tokens to represent the lunch they have ordered. We will honour the parents wishes with these orders, but will let you know if your child is refusing to eat because of the selection made. Please can we remind you that you need to make that food order, not just pay for lunches and leave the choice empty? It would be excellent if the children were included in this process so they know what you have ordered for them and why. November 5 th is a special menu day in the kitchens so please note the Bonfire Night Menu. http://www.abbeymeads.swindon.sch.uk/content.asp?iid=72 Congratulations to all the finalists: Avebury Isabel H (Yr4) & Lucy B (Yr2) Kennet Mia W (Yr5), Eve W (FS2) & Millie M (Yr2) Ridgeway Jacob H (Yr3) & Kyan R (Yr1) Silbury Bethan E (Yr6) & Ava H (Yr1) The next House Cup is Art & Design in January Cross Country Conditions for cross-country running were at their prime on Monday afternoon, as pupils from years 4-6 took part in the Swindon Primary Schools Championships. Despite the endless drizzle, children competed against their peers from across the town, on a course that cut through the heart of Lydiard Park. The lower KS2 team got off to a promising start; Reece D was first over the line for AMCPS, recording 10th place and an impressive time of 7 minutes. Following closely behind were William A, Jamie E and Liam McD. It was then time for the girls to get in on the action, with Eleanor H, Jessie O and Isabelle W racing the onemile stretch. The third heat involved our upper KS2 boys, who had to weave through a very competitive field of runners. First back was Owen Y, with Freddie H, Sam B and Mateusz L soon after. For the final heat of the day, Alisha F, Leah T and Hannah B descended upon the course, which had grown in difficulty since the mud paved the way in place of what was formally grass. Although there were no podium finishes amongst our teams, the pupils showed great determination and enjoyment throughout the experience. Special thanks goes to all the parents, who braved the conditions to support the team. Mr Shore

Reminder Repeat item Reception and Nursery Nativity Both Reception classes will perform together this year on the two dates already advertised. Please keep the dates advertised in the school calendar with parents from Sycamore attending on the morning of Tuesday 18 th December at 9.15am and parents from Rowan attending on the afternoon of Tuesday 18 th December at 2.15pm. Both Reception classes will perform both times (twice in the same day) but parents are invited to their specific show. You will be allocated a maximum of 3 tickets per child, with a letter coming home next term containing more details of how to book these. Nursery children (in Acorn Class) will join these performances for the sessions they attend. Fire and Lock Down Drills We carried out Lock Down and Fire Drills this week. All children and staff performed the procedures magnificently, with all children evacuated in less than 90 seconds - away from the school buildings and safe within 4 minutes. As always there are small organisational changes we are considering but, whilst we hope never to have to use these procedures for real, we are confident they work and serve the purpose. Acorn News This week we have been reading the story of The owl babies. We have enjoyed talking about our feelings and creating owl houses. The children have painted amazing pictures of owls which look fabulous in our classroom. Poppies We will be selling poppies after the half term break in the build up to Armistice Day. This year we commemorate the centenary of the end of World War One and Prime Theatre have produced a theatre production called The 11 th Hour, a play inspired by our local LCP schools and written by Terry Deary. Years 4, 5 & 6 will be seeing the play in school in 12 th and 13 th November but, if families would like to see the play, there is a special showing on 13 th November at 7.30pm in the Wyvern Theatre. Please see this advertisement. I will see you there if you are going to the evening performance. Mr Buckley

Flu vaccinations for children in Reception all the way through to Year 5 will take place on 11th December in school. However, we are aware that some parents would like their children vaccinated against Flu earlier rather than later, therefore, there are community clinics being run across the Counties. If you would like to book into a clinic, you will need to call the Immunisation team on 0333 234 1125. You are welcome to attend any clinic (regardless of where you live) 27.10.18 - Bath 10-12 30.10.18 - Salisbury 2-4 31.10.18 - Devizes 10-12 31.10.18 - Trowbridge 1-3 02.11.18 - Swindon 10-12 02.11.18 - Chippenham 1-3 Christmas Fayre/Christmas Market Please see page 5 for the booking form and information about this year s FOAMS Christmas Shopping Event 16 th November 2018 REMINDER - 3pm GATE OPENING Please note - as we use the Trim Trail as part of our daily exercise the school gates will now open only a few minutes before the end of the school day.
