INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS GAME NOTES GAME #93 / Road Game #49 Indianapolis Indians (43-49) at Pawtucket Red Sox (43-46) Saturday, July 18, 2009 -- First Pitch @ 6:05 p.m. EDT McCoy Stadium -- Pawtucket, Rhode Island Indians RHP Brad Lincoln (1-1, 4.70) vs. PawSox RHP Enrique Gonzalez (7-8, 5.57) ------- TONIGHT S TRIBE STARTER: Tonight s probable starting pitcher for Indianapolis, Brad Lincoln, is scheduled to face Pawtucket for the first time this season and the first time in his career... Lincoln, who represented the Pirates in the 2009 All-Star Futures game is hoping to bounce back from his most recent start in which he was handed his first Triple-A defeat after allowing four runs on eight hits in five innings against Louisville on July 6... The right hander did however strike out seven Bats batters in the defeat, which were two more pucnchouts then he had in first two starts combined. TONIGHT S OPPOSING STARTER: Set to oppose Lincoln, is Pawtucket starter Enrique Gonzalez, who will be facing the Tribe for the second time this season... In his previous start against Indianapolis on May 29, Gonzalez took the loss after surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits in his shortest outing of the season, 4.1 innings... The right hander was a tough luck loser in his most recent start as he allowed just one run on seven hits and zero walks in eight innings of work against Buffalo on July 10, but was outdueled as the Red Sox managed just two hits off Bisons pitching and fell by the score of 1-0... Gonzalez is currently tied for the International League with 15 decisions (seven wins, eight losses) over his 17 starts so far this season and has surrendered the most hits in the IL with 127 base hits given up in 97 innings pitched this season, including the IL s third highest home runs allowed total with 14 longballs give up already this season. POSTING NUMBERS AGAINST PAWTUCKET: In Friday night s 7-3 victory over Pawtucket the Indians drew a season high 12 walks and were hit a season high six times as an amazing 18 Tribe batters reached base without the benefit of a hit... Those two season bests are just two of many that the Indians have set in their six games against the Red Sox this season... Indianapolis has also scored their most runs against the PawSox (14 on 5/29), collected their most hits (18 on 7/16), ripped their most doubles (7 on 7/16 and posted their most extra-base hits (9 on 7/16) all against Pawtucket this season... In their six match ups this season the Tribe has scored 12 more runs, collected 12 more base hits and drove in 12 more runs than the Red Sox... 1B Steve Pearce has led the for the Tribe offense against Pawtucket this season as in the Tribe s six games against Pawtucket this season, he is batting.478 (11-for-23) with six runs and four RBI. MILLEDGE MASTERS THE COMPETITION: In Friday nights victory over Pawtucket, Tribe OF Lastings Milledge reached base in his first five plate appearances and has now reached base in 12 of his last 16 trips to the plate... The right handed slugger also collected three base hits in Friday s contest for his third straight multi-hit performance and fourth in his last five games... Since joining the Tribe after being acquired from the Washington Nationals organization, Milledge has reached base in all but his first game and is batting.474 (9-for-19) with two runs, three RBI, four walks, one stolen base, two hit-by-pitches and just one strikeout in his six games with Indianapolis. PEARCE CONTINUES TO PRODUCE: Steve Pearce continues to swing a productive bat for the Indians as the first baseman extended his hitting streak to six games going 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI, a walk and two HBPs on Friday in Pawtucket... After an 0-for-4 performance in his first game back Pearce has hit in every single game since and is hitting.450 (9-for-20) with five runs, six doubles, a home run and nine RBI during those six contests, while having either scored a run or drive a run in each game since rejoining Indianapolis... The 26-year old is also currently ranked fourth in the International League with 52 RBI and tied for eighth in the IL with 12 home runs. GORZELANNY GOING STRONG: Indians starter Tom Gorzelanny has been nothing short of masterful over his last seven contests as he has posted a 3-2 record and 1.14 ERA (5 ER in 39.1 IP), while striking out 38 in 39.1 innings pitched... During this stretch of dominating starts, Gorzelanny has not allowed more than one earned and has had two starts where he has not given up a single earned run... With this recent stretch of starts, gorzelanny has moved into seventh place in the International League with a 2.66 ERA, while he also ranks tied for second in the League with two complete games so far this year. MIGHTY MYROW: 1B/OF Brian Myrow went 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI, two walks and a HBP in Friday s contests against Pawtucket to improve his Indians best batting average to.305... The left handed slugger has now also reached base safely in 16 of his 20 games since joining the Tribe on June 24, while having also recorded a hit in eight of his last 10 games... The Texas native also currently ranks third in the International League with a.397 on-base percentage, a category in which he led the League in last season as a member of the Pacific Coast League. KRATZ TAKES HOME IL TOP STAR AWARD: Indianapolis Indians catcher Erik Kratz earned the Major League Baseball Advanced Media s IL Top Star Award after he went 2-for-2 with a walk, double and a two-run homer in the IL s 6-5 All-Star Victory over the PCL on Wednesday night at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon... In his first All-Star at-bat with one-out in the third inning, the right handed slugger smacked a double to left field... The backstop then came plateward for the IL s first score of the game when IL shortstop Reid Brignac (Durham Bulls) doubled to center to jump the IL out to a 1-0 lead... Kratz later blasted what turned out to be the game-winning hit when he launched a 3-0 fastball off of PCL knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (Albuquerque Isotopes) over the fence in left field for a two-out, two-run long ball... With his outstanding performance the 29-year old now makes it two consecutive seasons in which a member of the Tribe has brought home the Major League Baseball Advanced Media s IL Top Star Award as former Indians CF Andrew McCutchen, also received the award last season after he went 2-for-2 with two RBI in a 6-5 PCL victory at the Louisville Bats Louisville Slugger Field... Kratz entered the All-Star break ranked first among IL leading catchers in hits (54) and runs (29), second in home runs (5) and RBI (23) and also third in average (.269). The slugging backstop also ranks in the top five in the IL in caught stealing efficiency, having thrown out 33% percent of runners trying to steal against him, while his own six steals leads all International League catchers and all catchers in the Pirates organization.
