The Weekly Bias Newsletter Tuesday, 29th January 2019 Good afternoon Everyone I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and enjoying the Australia Day celebrations around Mandurah. Well this is the last week of school holidays WOO-HOO!!! Oh for the routine again.. Yes next Monday you will hear a sigh of relief across Mandurah. Have a fantastic week and good bowling to you all. Ladies Bowls Patsy Smith, Captain Novice Singles: A record breaking number of novices are competing in the singles. Six ladies played three rounds on Friday under the guidance of Chris Starbuck and the match committee and all ran very smoothly. Well done players and committee. Thanks to the ladies who came to umpire or mark and those who came to watch. The last two rounds will be played on the same day as the Club Singles finals but only if there are no Novices through in the Open Finals. Super Sixes. This event sponsored by Coral Anning, Jacki Henry, Eileen Proctor and Glen Terhoeve will be played on Thursday 31 st January. Names must be in by Tuesday immediately after pennants. Some men have already volunteered to make the numbers up to even multiples of 12. Singles. Names are slowly coming in. We also need markers. Rotating Triples. This will be held on Thursday 28 th February. Firies will be arriving in WA (Mandurah) around that time and many players will have their partners with them. An open invitation will be put in our promotional material for any visiting ladies to join us on that day. SAVE THE DATE Ladies Pennant Wind up Dinner 26 th February, 6pm and $25 per person, closing date 22/2/19. Bookings open now.

Men s Bowls Doug Myers, Captain It seems that I have again dropped the ball when I overlooked some significant achievements by a couple of Halls Head bowlers. I failed to report that Dennis Rubery was runner up in the recently held Murray Districts Bowling League veteran singles championship. Dennis was beaten in the final by Alan Grieves from Yunderup. Peter Nicolay had previously been vanquished by Dennis and ended up in third place. This year s Australia Day Mixed social bowls attracted 46 players who played 10 ends of Fours after a flag raising ceremony conducted by long-time life member Jack Groves. The winning team was John Lysaght, Jean Bodecott, June Lewer and Dennis Gilpin. The runners/up was a team of three consisting of Keith Fleming, Lou Warneford and Pam Fleming. Many thanks go to Max Hughes and Mike Barker for arranging and cooking the barbecue that followed the game. Hats off again for bar manager Kerri and her evergreen volunteer helper, Colin Francis for their dedication and service. Special thanks to Jack Groves for jumping in to help me in the match office when all was a bit hectic at the start of the day. The Halls Head Open triples will be staged tomorrow, Wednesday 30 January. We look like running with 42 teams so it should be a good day for the club. The Fremantle and Byford clubs will be represented for the first time. Max Hughes tells me that the Men s annual two-day carnival, scheduled to be held at the end of April, is now fully booked out. Fifty teams from throughout the State will contest this prestigious event. This result is testimony to Max s great enthusiasm and boundless energy. The number playing Mixed Scroungers hit a new high last Friday when 89 bowlers were on the greens. Kelly Kay chose the right moment to return to scroungers after a long absence to swoop on the major prize money. Denny Berson continued his good form to take out second place while Helen Perkins was a bit unlucky to wind up in third. Gene Sputore won the consolation prize. Please take extra care around the Greens at the moment. Our lighting project is coming along nicely and we apologies for any inconvenience; however it will be FANTASTIC when this is completed. Your safety is paramount to us
