Jake Harding is currently in his fourth semester at Texas State Technical College in Waco pursuing an Associate of Applied Science degree in Air Traffic Control. His goal is to work in air traffic control in Colorado. Jake is a graduate of Huffman High School. During his time in Huffman he lettered in Football and Basketball. He was academic all-district in both sports. We got a chance to catch up with him and ask a few questions. - How is studying in college compared to high school? Studying in high school is a lot different than studying in college. In high school it was just something I needed to do to make good grades and go to college. But now that I am in college, it is totally different. What I'm studying actually means something to me, and its exciting thinking that studying more than anyone else will make me the best air traffic controller I can be. The main difference is the goal you're trying to achieve changes, and hopefully your motivation. - What is your fondest basketball moment from your time in Huffman? My fondest memory was definitely all of senior year. I can't think of one exact moment, but our team was more than just a team. I think we acted more like a family than a team and I miss that about basketball. - If you could do one thing differently in high school what would it have been? If I could do one thing differently in high school, it would definitely be to push myself in sports. I never practiced on my own time, and looking back its a huge regret of mine. I think I would have been able to be pretty successful if I applied myself more. - Where will your degree take you post-graduation? I am currently enrolled in Texas State Technical College for Air Traffic Control. I really love it, and it has turned into a passion for me. I encourage everyone to at least come take a tour if you're interested because it's a great way to see how cool my job is going to be. - What s the biggest difference between Huffman and Waco? The biggest difference between Huffman and Waco is that there is a grocery store less than 10 minutes away and I don't know everyone I see.
