There were 44 members with 21 Mustangs in the parking lot and 3 Brand X vehicles in attendance. We welcomed new member Bruce Sandy and his friend Katrina Hull. Bruce owns a 2013 Black Mustang. Robert Kent is also a new member he is the owner of 2011 Mustang, his dream car. His friend Devin Singer attended as a visitor and although he does not own a Mustang he is a member of a Mustang family. Both of these young men are full time students. We welcomed back two members, Roy Hess was home on leave from Barksdale AFB, LA and he and his Mustangs will be home this winter. James Griffith was also with us at our meeting. James is home on leave from his deployment in Afghanistan and is returning to Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. We thanked James for his service, for which he was awarded a Bronze Star, the nation s 4 th highest award for valor. Jessie opened the meeting in prayer and blessed both our food and our membership. 2 Kurt thanked us for the cards, letters, and the donation made in memory of his mother Patricia Miller, who recently passed away. Kurt sent the signup sheet for our show around the room. If you have not signed up to help with the show please do so at the next meeting. We need everyone to help to make our show our success. We need everyone to ask for donations for door prizes and goodie bag items. We also need a second vendor chairman for our show. Kari-Anne will continue as the food vendor rep, but we need someone else to recruit and organize other vendors. (Browns, etc.) The Ford Merchandise Truck will be coming back and this year will bring additional items other than our pink Mustang Jackets perhaps scarves or some other accessory that will add to our ensembles. Kurt heard from someone who has 2 of the Ford Jackets for sale and will get the details out to us this week. Gloria reported that we have received our first registration for our show in October so things are in progress for October 12.
JULY AT MADISONS Kurt presented to Sue and Neil Anders the first show shirts for our October 12 show. Sue and Neil are the Mustangers of the Year this year and their cars are featured on our shirts for the show. Unfortunately for our club the Barbour family has decided to sell the lot on Market Street so there is a strong possibility that we will need another show site for 2014. Please be thinking of possible locations and share them with Kurt and next year s show chairman. (This position has not been filled yet, but we are seeking a volunteer so they can follow Kurt around this year to learn the ropes.) We only had one July birthday Neal McLean celebrated this month. Kim and Colwell Smith celebrated their 35 th anniversary in June and Katie and Alton Moore celebrated their 35 th in July. So congratulations to all of these folks. Only one car show result was reported, as Kurt showed his California Special in a very rainy show and received a 2 nd place for all cars 1960 and newer. Our August meeting will be Saturday, August 17 when we have a tour and wine tasting and dinner at the Duplin Winery. Our tour begins at 2:00PM so please watch your email for times for our cruises to the winery. We will need to leave earlier than our normal departure time. We have been invited by Steve Smith, president of the Coastal Carolina Mustang Club of Myrtle Beach to join them for a meeting the evening of August 7 to meet the president of the Mustang Club of Italy, Salvo Mirabella. He has invited several local clubs to meet and greet our Italian counterpart. Our September meeting will be held on September 8. We will cruise to the Cape Fear Restaurant in Southport for our meeting and meal. Our meeting time is 3:00PM. Then we will take the 6:15 ferry back to Ft. Fisher and cruise from Ft. Fisher to Bruesters on 17 th Street Extension for ice cream Kurt attended the Corvette Club meeting and presented the winner of our Poker Run with his Bling - a poker bracelet. The Corvette club as extended an invitation for 10 of our members to join their members on August 10 for a track event at Darlington Raceway. They will have lunch at Fatz in Florence and will be cruising from the Harris Teeter in Leland. The cost is $20 per car and you will receive 20 laps on the raceway, 10 with a pace truck, and 10 without. If you wish to participate please contact John Talatinian ASAP! Please check the web site for upcoming show such as the Made in the Shade show in Elizabethtown, and the October 5 Myrtle Beach Show. Kristina Danley, our official 50/50 girl, pulled the number for our drawing. There was no cheating involved but Greg Griffith won the $49 again this month. Kristina is now the owner of Show shirt from last year courtesy of Gloria and Terry our merchandise managers. We gave several more shirts to those with 50/50 tickets. The shirt winners were Neil Anders, Horace Keen, Bruce Sandy, Neal McLean, Kurt Miller, John Talatinian and Ted Piekut. Page 2
OUT AND ABOUT The Wounded Warrior Family Support Shelby Super Snake passed through SENCMC country on its 48 state High Five Tour on July 13-14. While stopped in Jacksonville, Allen was asked to bring his 68 Shelby GT500 to share the showroom with it. Kurt Miller drove through the rain to take his California Special to a show, at N. Brunswick High it was worth his effort as the next picture will show. Took 2nd place in "Class 3" which was modern cars (1960 - newer). Rain stopped just before judging. Thank you Judith Malone for sending this along in time for the newsletter. Not only did Ed win Best in Class - 1967-68 Mustangs - for our 1967 Mustang Convertible at the Myrtle Beach Mustang Show, but his car is used as a prop in the just released movie "The Conjuring," when the family leaves farm house for motel. Not a bad week for a car we have held onto for 46 years. Page 3
