There are 13 ream Teamers, 13 cademic Teamers, 96 other ll-mericans, and 120 Honorable Mention ll-merican selections. Forty-nine states are represented from the numerous nominations received. The 2015 ream Team is an exceptional one, comprised of four-time state champions lijah liver (120) of llinois, ick Piccininni (126) of ew York, ance Benick (195) of Minnesota, and ustin Myers (220) of entucky, three-time state champions evin Brown (113) of Pennsylvania, aid Brock (132) of klahoma, nthony Valencia (170) of alifornia, and Zahid Valencia (182) of alifornia, three-time ational Prep champion Matthew olodzik (138) of ew Jersey, two-time state champions Vincenzo Joseph (152) of Pennsylvania and avid McFadden (160) of ew Jersey, Pennsylvania state champion Michael emerer (145) and llinois state champion Michael Johnson (285). The 13 members of the team represent 37 state or national prep titles and 2,182 match victories. They average an overall win-loss record of 168-9. Joseph leads in G.P.. with a 4.1, followed by olodzik and Johnson each with a 4.0, emerer with a 3.9, Brock with a 3.8, and Zahid Valencia with a 3.71. Piccininni leads the team with 226 career wins, while Myers has the most career falls with 140. Myers heads the team with a 100% winning percentage followed by Zahid Valencia at 99.39, liver at 98.19, and Piccininni at 97.84. olodzik, emerer, nthony Valencia, Zahid Valencia, and Johnson won titles at the prestigious Walsh ronman Tournament with Zahid Valencia becoming a rare four-time champion. The only other prep wrestler to win four individual Walsh ronman Tournament crowns was Penn tate University great avid Taylor. liver won a title at the highly-regarded Junior ational Freestyle hampionships, while olodzik, nthony Valencia, and ance Benick were triumphant at the esteemed adet ational Freestyle hampionships. emerer and Zahid Valencia claimed first-place honors at the always-tough uper 32 hallenge Tournament, while Myers was a three-time winner at the ational High chool hampionships. The highly-accomplished cademic Team features six-time state champion Jordan hearer (145) of orth akota, five-time state champion Fox Baldwin (170) of Florida, four-time state champions Jonathan agsdale (120) of Georgia, oyle Trout (126) of ebraska, hris ebien (132) of Tennessee, eal ichards (152) of Virginia, Taylor ujan (182) of Georgia, Tevis Bartlett (195) of Wyoming, and enneth Brinson (220) of Georgia, three-time state champions e-hawn Hayes (138) of Missouri and Jonathan Viruet (160) of Massachusetts, and two-time state champions Jabari Moody (113) of llinois and Tate rndorff (285) of Washington. The thirteen members of the team have an astounding 3.94 average G.P.. and an average win-loss record of 201-9. ujan heads the team with a 99.54 winning percentage followed by Brinson at 98.48%, Moody at 98.21%, and Hayes at 97.89%. Baldwin accumulated the most career victories and falls with 395 and 305 respectively. Viruet leads in G.P.. with a brilliant 4.2, followed by Hayes at 4.125, Brinson at 4.12, and hearer and Bartlett at 4.0. Baldwin and ujan were champions at the uper 32 hallenge Tournament, while Moody and hearer claimed titles at the rugged Junior ational Greco-oman hampionships. Hayes seized top honors at the Walsh ronman Tournament, while ebien, ichards, Bartlett, and Brinson were winners at the highly-acclaimed ational High chool hampionships. Unfortunately, we did not receive nominations for some deserving young men. Wrestling hampionships tieber, hio tate Win ational Titles By oger Moore ogan tieber joined an exclusive club at the 2015 ivision Wrestling hampionship. The senior 141-pounder for hio tate beat dinboro s Mitchell Port 11-5 to win a fourth national title and become just the fourth wrestler in history to accomplish that feat. This is something have dreamed about since came to hio tate, said tieber, who finishes a 29-0 this season and a 119-3 career for the Buckeyes. To finally do it is unbelievable. Two slick first-period takedowns built a small cushion. tieber scored another takedown and took a 7-2 lead and 2:38 of riding time to the final two minutes of his collegiate career. double-leg midway through the third made it 10-2. Port (36-2), also a senior, made one last push by scoring a late takedown, but it was too little, too late as the capacity cottrade enter came to its feet and gave tieber a standing ovation. The Huskies, second in 2011, 2012, and 2013, had their finger tips on the team trophy following the medal rounds aturday afternoon. When junior 125-pounder Tim Prescott scored a third-period takedown to beat ugustana s T.J. orth to claim aturday night s first individual title, U s trophy case had its first addition. n the end the Huskies totaled 84.5 points, eight better than second place ebraska-earney. Maryville (61), Mercyhurst (58) and uachita Baptist (55.5) rounded out the top five. otre ame, the 2014 champion and ranked o. 1 heading into the week, finished sixth with 50. t s hard to put into words right now, said ostanzo, who brought six wrestlers to t. ouis and finished with six ll- mericans. We brought six guys and felt like we had a chance. Hats off to our guys, just a tremendous team effort. t s our first national championship in school history. nd that is dating back to the 1800s. Wrestling hampionships ugsburg laims ational Title, ecord 12th verall ugsburg claimed its ivision -record 12th national title and first since 2010, snapping a streak of four consecutive national titles by Wartburg. ugsburg and Wartburg have combined to win every ivision national title since 1995. ugsburg claimed the championship with 100.0 points, its eighth national title scoring 100 or more points. Wartburg finished second with 89.5 points, while Wabash (nd.) was third with 66.5 points, Wisconsin-Whitewater was fourth with 60.5 points and elaware Valley was fifth with 58.5 points. ugsburg swept the awards presented by the ational Wrestling oaches ssociation. Head coach Jim Moulsoff was named ivision ational oach of the Year and ivision ookie oach of the Year, while Tony Valek was named ssistant oach of the Year. ugsburg 125-pound back-to-back national champion Mike Fuenffinger was named the tournament's utstanding Wrestler, and 165-pounder ric Hensel earned the tournament's Most Falls in east Time award. "s the season went on, we took our lumps, know that, but it didn't make a difference," Moulsoff said. "We learned along the way and we grew, because [the wrestlers knew] they're going to crown a national champ come March, and that was their goal, and that's what they did. Wrestling hampionships Grand View, Gutches Win Fourth-traight ational Title History was made in the final session of the 2015 Wrestling ational hampionships, presented by Blue hip Wrestling, as Grand View (owa) won its fourthstraight team title, while Brock Gutches of outhern regon ended his collegiate career with a fourthconsecutive title at 174 pounds. espite only having two individuals advance into the title round, the Vikings cruised to the team title with 147.5 points 38.5 points better than second-place outhern regon. ll four titles we ve won have been totally different, said Grand View head coach ick Mitchell, and this year was not an exception. t was a really tough tournament. We only had two in the finals, which was the least over the last four years, but really thought our team wrestled well having eight guys in the Top 4. There s a lot of good history with wrestling, and for us to be part of that history is awesome. We re excited to make our mark in the, said Mitchell. First year there wasn t a lot of pressure. wasn t really nervous and did not have a lot of expectations, so went out there and just wrestled. had to force myself to do the same thing this weekend, especially with everyone talking about not losing for Grand View. ended up closing my college career with a title, and it felt really good. Brandon Wright at 141 pounds was Grand View s other champion. Wright s title bout against yle Wilson of Great Falls (Mont.) came down to an extra point for riding time, 4-3. The win made him the fifth two-time champion in program history and 15th overall tied for ninth most in history. The other major story at the championships was the conclusion of a collegiate career of arguably one of the most dominant wrestlers in history. Gutches, who had an 8-0 major decision against ampbellsville s (y.) Travis Mcntosh, is only the seventh grappler in history to win four consecutive titles. J T Janesville, Wisconsin Joe aster of Janesville, Wisconsin, is retiring this year after nearly 55 years of involvement in wrestling. Joe started as an assistant coach at Waterford, Wisconsin, High chool in 1962-63. The next year he took over as head coach of the Wolverines. uring his threeyear stint as head coach at Waterford, Joe coached six individual conference champions, two of whom went on to wrestle in college and qualify for the ivision national tournament. Those two, Pete dwards and Jerry Guth, went on to be successful high school coaches in Wisconsin. n 1966, Joe moved to Walworth, Wisconsin, where he started the high school wrestling program. The following year an opportunity to coach in a ivision high school presented itself, and Joe moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where he was the head wrestling coach at raig enior High chool for the next twenty-one years. t raig, Joe coached 33 individual conference champions, 20 state qualifiers, seven state medalists including three state finalists. Ten years after retiring from coaching, Joe returned to raig High chool as an assistant coach for head coach Bill eary. He helped oach eary for five years before permanently retiring from coaching. ltogether, fifteen of Joe s wrestlers went on to wrestle in college. n addition to the two previously mentioned qualifiers, eight of those wrestlers qualified for the national tournament, and in 1978 Fred Townsend won the national championship under Willie Myers at UW-Whitewater. n addition to coaching, Joe was an active referee. For over twenty-five years he officiated high school, college, and, to a lesser extent, freestyle wrestling. Joe refereed hundreds of high school, state collegiate, and Big Ten dual meets. He also worked the W state tournament, the national tournament, the ivision national tournament, and the Wisconsin tate ollegiate conference tournament. He officiated the University of Wisconsin s orthern pen for 23 years, serving as head official for many of those years. n 1989, he received the tate istinguished ervice ward from the ational Federation of nterscholastic fficials ssociation. Joe was a charter member and served as president of the outhern Wisconsin Wrestling fficials ssociation and was a member of the ational Wrestling fficials ssociation. n the mid-1970 s, Joe began writing for The rossface, the state wrestling newspaper in Wisconsin. His involvement with the paper continued to grow until he bought into the paper. ince 1996, he has been co-owner and editor of The rossface. n 2001, The rossface was named ational Wrestling Publication of the Year by the ational Wrestling Media ssociation. Writing for The rossface enabled Joe to attend and cover many Big Ten Tournaments, Tournaments, the 1988 eoul lympics, the 1990 Goodwill Games, the 1993 lympic Festival and numerous other big wrestling events. He has interviewed such notables as Bill oll, liff een, Myron oderick, ergei Belaglazov, ee emp, an Gable, John mith, ael anderson, and many others. He was the founder of and for thirteen years the president of the ational Wrestling Hall of Fame s Wisconsin chapter. n 1995, Joe was inducted into the George Martin Wisconsin Wrestling oaches Hall of Fame. n 2003, he was inducted into the ational Wrestling Hall of Fame for ifetime ervice to Wrestling, and in 2014 he was inducted into the Janesville ports Hall of Fame. quote from President Theodore oosevelt exemplifies Joe s attitude: "t is not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better, the credit belongs to the man in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who tries valiantly...who knows the great enthusiasms, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at best knows in the end the triumph of High chievement, and who, at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who have never known either victory or defeat." Joe still lives in Janesville with his wife of 55 years Patricia. Together they raised five children--greg, teve, Jeff, isa, and an, all of whom have married.
