Bailey- Heritage The objective of this document is to trace the roots of back to slavery. Prior to the Census, African Americans were not counted in Census records. Prior to that, we existed as property on slave schedules and did not necessarily have a surname. Therefore, the period in America prior to is much more difficult to research. Because of this, this is where I start my story.. Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- According to the US Census, this starts with Henry born a slave in Tennessee in 1846. Henry was married to Easter (a Mulatto ex slave), and they had 2 children Olivia and Robert. They lived in Marshall County, MS near Hudsonville/Holly Springs. The 2 other 's listed in Marshall County are JW and Marlone (both White) also from Tennessee. In 1860 there is a only C Willoughby listed. It s a good assumption that the bane came from this family.

Heritage Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Easter (Now Easter McDonald her assumed maiden name) is now listed as head of household. She is listed as widowed. She continued to live in Hudsonville, Marshall County, MS at this time. Apparently, sometime in the s Henry, a very young man, met an untimely death. After he added additional children Tom, Ola and Elizabeth. Olivia is still listed in, but Robert is missing above, but was found living with another family. He is 15 at this time, the family he lived with was white, it is assumed he was living and working this family to help support his mother and the other kids since his father is now gone..

Heritage Thomas Bailey and Ola Marriage Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Thomas Bailey and Ola Marriage Thomas Bailey and Ola married in Marshall County, MS in. Thomas and Ola Bailey are my great grandparents (Anthony ). Tom Bailey was born in Tennessee 1868-1872 according to later records. It is suspected that he was born in either Shelby or Fayette counties. His parents have not been confirmed at this time. It is assumed that he was born to either Tony Bailey of Fayette County, TN or Africa Bailey (a wealthy preacher) with ties to Marshall County that lived in Memphis, TN. At this point in 2008, this has not yet been confirmed. Thomas Malone and Olive Marriage 1886 Olive (Henry and Easter s oldest daughter) married Thomas Malone in 1886. Robert b (1867) No further records can be found at this time on Robert, first son of Henry and Easter as seen on the Census.

Heritage Thomas Bailey and Ola Bailey Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas and Ola Bailey (there was a mist type on a few of the names Tim and Tonnnie should be Tom and Tommie) continued to live in Marshall County, they were now listed in beat 2 (Slayden/Mount Pleasant). Mary Lee, Chorhorah (Clara), Tommie Lee and Maggie were listed as children. Not sure who Ruby Ross is.

Heritage Thomas Bailey and Ola Bailey Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas and Ola Bailey continued to live in Marshall County, beat 2 (Slayden/Mount Pleasant). Maggie, Tom Jr., Maggie, Fannie who is around 9, John, Martha and Annie were listed as children. Also in, Tom (Ola s Brother, can be found on the same page living in close quarters with this family. A Separate document traces the heritage of his grandson Thomas Penilton documents his story.

Bailey- Heritage Thomas and Ola Bailey Tom Charlotte (Penilton) Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas and Ola Bailey can be found on the same census page as Tom (Ola s Brother) A Separate document traces the heritage of his grandson Thomas Penilton documents his story. This shows that Tom and his sister remained close through their entire life. Thomas Bailey and family can be found near the top of the image and Thomas and family can be found near the bottom. Tom also has a daughter named Ola he named after his sister. She is shown as a part of his family at 6 years old.

Heritage Thomas Bailey Jr. World War 1 Draft Card Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas Jr. registered for the WW1 draft as all men in the country were required to do. This card shows Tom Jr. living and working for his father Thomas Sr. in Mt Pleasant, MS. Note the cut in the lower left corner. This tells the military that the person is black, without needing to look at the card

Heritage and Jimmie (and his family, in Memphis) Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Census Memphis, Shelby County, TN Sometime after 1915 left Jim Lee and his new wife Fannie (Bailey) left Slayden/Mount Pleasant and moved to Memphis. Jimmie was 26; Fannie was around 18 at the time. Note: The Family below Jimmie and Fannie are Jimmies family. Carrie Horton is Jimmies mother. Look for John Horton (Head) Carrie Wife, Son Earnest, Son William, Son Otress, Daughter Bessie, Son Albert and Son Chester.. Also, see Jessie Coleman and his new wife (Carries Daughter or Jimmies sister) Maud Coleman. See George Pool at the end (Carries Brother as noted). Going back to the Census Carrie was born Carrie Poole in 1872 to Daniel b. Abt 1830) and Harriet Pool b abt 1840, both slaves. Both were brought to Early Grove/Slayden/Mount Pleasant from North Carolina sometime before slavery ended A separate document covers the Heritage of Jim Lee.

Fannie took the kids and raised them in Turrell, AR. Jimmie remained in Memphis, where he died in 1952. Fannie remarried Will Cole. Together they had: Robert Lee Cole b 1939 Living in Colt, Ar. 2008. Fannie and Will Cole remained in that area until she died about 1958.

Heritage Elbridge and Clara (Bailey) Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Clara (Bailey) (Fannies Sister shown on ) can be found with her family. She is married to Elbridge. The continued to live in Marshall County, beat 2 (Slayden/Mount Pleasant) area. They have children, Teelius, Annetta, Oleors (Olivia as shown in ), Harry K and Georgia. Ada Wilson is Elbridge es mother. As seen on earlier census records.

Heritage Jimmie and Fannie (Bailey) Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Jimmie was listed with his wife Fannie and their 2 kids in Memphis, Tn. (Note: There were 2 spelling errors with his name Jina/Jim and his last name Rynes/. Also note that there are other occurrences of the surname Rynes in Marshall county, MS at various points, but I think he just pronounced his name with the S at the end.) He Jimmie and Fannie list 2 kids Myrnalle and Jimmie Lee. Myrnalle is also a spelling error for Myrtle. Jimmie Lee (Lee always indicates a person was named after someone else), age 6 became later known as Tommie Lee. Both Tommie Lee and Myrtle later located to St. Louis, Missouri.

Heritage Thomas Bailey Sr. and Ola Bailey Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas Sr. and Ola Bailey continued to live in Marshall County, beat 2 (Slayden/ Mount Pleasant). Ophelia and Herschel Bailey are now listed. Not sure who Harter Seeck is, though he was listed as living with them at the time. At this time in 2008, this is the last information found on Thomas and Ola Bailey without further research. They both died some time after Note: It appears that Tom Bailey Jr. named his daughter Ola after his mother. Tom Jr. and his daughter Ola can be found on the Census as well. It appears that Fannie named her son also after her father Tom, Tommie Lee.

Heritage Thomas Bailey Jr. and Viola Bailey Census Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Thomas Jr. and Viola Bailey lived in Memphis. They show 3 kids, with them. Maggie Jean.

Heritage Elbridge and Clara (Bailey) Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- Bailey- In, Clara (Bailey) (Fannies Sister shown on ) can be found with her family. She is still married to Elbridge.
