I am looking forward to serving the club in this capacity. I have been asked by a number of people what my vision for the direction of the club is and what I would like to see done in the near future. I thought I would start by telling everyone the things I believe in. I believe in a higher power. The rod. The reel. I believe the smell of two stroke exhaust in the morning is intoxicating. Hank Parker is my fishing idol. I believe in the adrenaline rush of a topwater bite. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing smallmouth only tournaments, the use of livewell nets, smelly jelly, trailer hooks, and spike-it. I believe in the medicinal value of Seagrams. I believe fluorocarbon line is overrated crap. I believe that it s equally exciting to watch someone catch a fish as it is to catch it yourself, and in a long smooth, effortless windfree cast that lands without a splash between the log and a rock I would like to see our club continue to expand its long tradition of being a well-rounded club with the opportunity to help more kids get involved in fishing. I hope that we can continue to support all our special events with time and participation. I think that we have a great tool in our website to keep bringing in new members and excitement to our club. I look forward to the year ahead and thanks for continuing support. Page 4 Fish-In Ambassador Program Stu Karpenko 2007 Ambassador Director From our web site: The purpose of the Ambassador Program is to help better acquaint new members with the Western Bass Club and to help them become better anglers. The program is designed to quickly eliminate that initial feeling of being an "outsider" when you first join a club. I will be approaching people in the club and asking for volunteers at meetings to serve as Ambassadors, and I will make sure you get the chance to take people out fishing and make your volunteering for the program worthwhile. The Fish-In for January was at Lake Washington. I caught a 2 lb smallie near Pleasure Point on a grub at about 8:30 am. The lake was calm and beautiful until about 9:30 am, but after that it got pretty windy. José joined me at about 10 am, and Ron and Connor and Jim joined us at the North end of Mercer Island around 11. The next Fish-In will be at Sammamish on Saturday the 10 th. I'll get more creative with lake selection after that, but it is still winter, and February can be good on Sammamish. We ll meet at Denny s at 6:00 am and be at the launch at 7:30 am. I encourage everyone to come to breakfast, even if you get there a bit late. This is a great chance to visit and exchange info before we head out into the cold. February Fish-in Where: Lake Sammamish When: Saturday, February 10, 2007 Breakfast: Meet at Denny s, at 6:00 am or meet at the launch at 7:30 am Directions to Denny s: 720 GILMAN BLVD., ISSAQUAH, (425) 392-6025 From I-405 take I-90 east to Spokane. Take exit #15 (900 west) to Lake Sammamish park. End of exit take a right. At next signal (Gilman) turn left Denny's is on the left between 1st and 2nd signals. In addition, I invite any members, whether you joined the club this year, last year, or further back than that, to request an Ambassador. If you have the desire to learn and/or need someone to help get you out on the water, we want to make sure you are taken care of. Another thing that I will be asking everyone s help with is to make sure that several of us go out of our way to spend at least a few minutes talking to each person who visits the meeting, especially those who are thinking about joining or who have just joined the club. We want people to leave our meetings feeling good that people talked to them and didn t let them feel awkward. Spending just a few minutes with new people makes a HUGE difference to people - just ask someone who has gone to a meeting at another club and been ignored. I m looking forward to a great 2007! Thank you in advance for your help. Feel free to call me any time at 253-841-2183. When: Sat, February 10th Where:Lake Sammamish Directions to the Launch: Exit 15 on I-90, N on 17th Ave NW. Right on NW Sammamish Rd. L on Sammamish Parkway SE, Go.75 mi. Left at "Boat Ramp" sign. Launch fee is $5 Remember, no one stays on the dock at a Fish-In. Everyone floats! You don't have to pre-arrange a back seat for Fish-Ins. If you pre-arrange something with your AmBASSador, that's OK, but just because your AmBASSador can't make it doesn't mean you can't go. THE MORE THE MERRIER!

Special Events Page 5 RAFFLE FUNDRAISER Andrea Logston 2007 Special Events This year we will be raffling a $350 gift card to Auburn Sports & Marine. The raffle ticket booklets are now available for signing out. It would be great if every member could sell at least 2 booklets as this is our main fundraiser for the year. If you didn t get your booklets to sell at the awards banquet, just let me know and I'll be happy to send them out to you. Thank you again for your support of this fundraiser. CARE PACKAGE TO MARC FIELDS IN IRAQ Thank you to those who have donated items for Marc s care packages that I have been sending to him in Iraq. If you missed bringing your care package items to the Awards Banquet last Saturday, please bring them to the general meeting on January 18 th. I will have the box in which to deposit your items. I m sure Marc would appreciate letters from you, as well as pictures, snack items and any other things that you think might help brighten their spirits in Iraq. WASHINGTON SPORTSMEN S SHOW We will again be participating in the Washington Sportsmen's at the Western Washington Fairgrounds (Puyallup) from Wed, January 24th - Sun, January 28th. We will need volunteers to work the booth (#982) for the 5 days of the show. Please start checking your schedule to see when you will be able to help out in the booth. We will be looking for 2 people per time shift and I hope to have enough passes to breakdown the shifts into 2 or 3 hour shifts which may help with some of your schedules. Here are the show hours for your reference: Wednesday, January 24 th 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, January 25 th 12:00 PM 8:00 PM Friday, January 26 th 12:00 PM 8:00 PM Saturday, January 27 th 10:00 AM 8:00 PM Sunday, January 28 th 10:00AM 4:00 PM Thanks for your support! Please contact me should you have any questions regarding these WBC Special Events! Andrea Logston 253 847-0611 Treasurer Chris Blandi 2007 TREASURER Hello Fellow Bassers, Your new Treasurer here, Chris Blandi. It is time once again to renew your club membership. It is important to do this before March 1st in order to receive the member in good standing discount of $5. All those submitting membership applications with dues payments after that date will pay the standard $40 membership fee. As Andrea mentions above, it is also time to sell as many raffle tickets as possible for the 2007 WBC Raffle. Grand Prize is a $350 gift card from Auburn Sports and Marine. This is the only fundraiser we do all year and helps pay for all the extracurricular activities and costs of the club. The more we sell, the better we are able to fund some of the events we enjoy having. It is also important that we have all monies or tickets accounted for at the March meeting in order to hold the drawing. See everyone at the meetings. Chris Blandi WBC Raffle

Page 6 Tournament Report Jim Rumann 2007 Tournament Director Now that we have all the lakes selected for the year (see table on page 1) and all corresponding permits, we need to work on the campgrounds. April I am doing some research for finding an alternative to Silver Lake Resort, as a possibility for this year. There is one place that is closer to the launch. I will give you some updates at our general meeting this month. May We are staying at Warden s again this year. Like with all the other campgrounds, make sure to mention that you are with Western Bass Club when you call for reservations: Warden Lake Resort, 15661 Highway 262, 509-349-9865. June and July Coulee Playland is the place for these two tournaments. Their contact information is in the last page of the newsletter. August We have not yet decided on the Lower Columbia. I would like to hear from those of you who are familiar with the different options for launch and camping. Please bring your suggestions and ideas to our meeting. September My plan is to use the same place that we used last year for Lake Chelan: Kamei Campground & RV Park, 5000 Wapato Lake Rd, Manson, WA 98831, 509-687-3690 Please contact me, should you have any questions regarding tournament information. Jim Rumann VP / Tournament Director, 253-740-8013 Entertainment bill hill 2007 Entertainment Director This month we have Kenn Brainerd as our Special Speaker. I have asked Kenn to introduce himself to you Here is a note from Kenn: My name is Kenn Brainerd, the owner of KGM Custom Baits. Old Pro Custom Baits was owned by Gary Ennen. He was a dear friend and team partner. When he passed away due to complications from cancer, I purchased the business from his widow and changed the name to KGM Custom Baits. K for Kenn, G for Gary, and M for Megan my daughter. I worked hard to learn the business and techniques that he used, and learned very quickly that it was not as easy as he made it look. I learned to make molds, create colors and design new baits. I am always looking for new colors and designs to incorporate into my assortment of molds. I like to hear what the bass guys want, like new designs and new creature baits. I like to try to accommodate everyone, but unless you have tried to design a bait and completed the process to make it to production, you have no idea how long it takes. It could take months to get a right one, the one that fishes the way you want it to. Very tedious, but very fulfilling, when it all comes together. I am a small company but have big ideas. I listen to you guys and try to get you what you want. I sponsor a few fishermen on the local circuits. John Semkin, Frank White, Chris Ferry, and a junior Nick Barr. I have KGM in a few stores also. In the North end you have Anglers Choice, and in Woodinville, Three Rivers Marine. In the south end there is Auburn Sports and Marine. I am working on other stores also in the area. I have come up with three new designs this year, two new fluke type patterns and a new drop shot bait that I designed and am still working on, but works fine now. But I am never satisfied till you guys are. One thing about doing custom baits you get a lot of feedback from fishermen and really get to work with them and their requests. So keep those thoughts coming and keep me busy guys. Kenn Brainerd. KGM Custom Baits Your Entertainment Director Bill
