Lancaster Striders July 2017 President s Column Mark Reist President : Mark Reist Vice-President : Dave Barbaro Treasure Secretary : Gary Guzek : John Barbaro Celebration Hello Striders, July offered us a chance to celebrate this club along with this great Nation of ours. July 4th Depew-Lancaster Boys and Girls club 10K has to one of the finest Lancaster Striders traditions that goes back to the early days of this club existence. In talking to Doc Curry about this race, he made mention that this had to be the largest Strider turnout for the race. With a mere 94 members participating in the 10K, the relay or the after party, it was truly a great moment of letting the Lancaster community see and know who we are. If the post race party wasn t enough, then the Mckenrick s offered up their hospitality with a splendid beer selection, and more salads than I have ever seen at any party. On behalf of the Lancaster Striders, we thank both Laura and Darell for giving us your home. I wonder how their septic tank held up? Thank You and please invite us again in 2018 For a little side story about the race, goes to a pleasant elderly couple living at 222 Warner Road. Located right in area on the 5K relay point on the race route, they have opened their home to those needing to use the bathroom for years on end. While admiring their landscaping I was talking to them both and they said they were a little reluctant to open their home this year because someone made a mess in the bathroom and even more upsetting was that no one told them about it. With some smooth talking and a few pretty faces doing the I got to pee dance, they opened their home again. This time with a pleasant reminder not to mess up the bathroom. I sent them a Thank You card from the Lancaster Striders. Mark INSIDE THIS ISSUE President s Column..... 1 Strider Meeting Minutes 2 SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST Welcome Home.3 General Info...4-5 1

Welcome Home Almost a year ago, I took a chance on a one mile race. As my fourth race ever, and my first mile, I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. What I found there, as I huffed and puffed my way through that mile was the Lancaster Striders and the craziest, most supportive group I ve ever encountered. The next morning, after you all cheered me on to my last place finish like I was one of your own, (Thanks to Brooke Adams, I medaled in our AG), I found my way to the website, and subsequently into the Sea of Red. Throughout the last year, I ve dealt with the highs and lows of Nick s deployment. Some epic triumphs and brutal failures. But throughout it all you ve been there for me, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for that. Above that, though, is my most heartfelt and sincere appreciation for the surprise welcome home party for Nick. On a whim, an e-mail, a text message, and a phone call while walking down Main Street manifested itself an incredible welcome home for a sailor who deserved it all. Thank you, sincerely, for everything. To my A-Team (Paul, Mark, Lisa, Kevin, Aly, Jen, Dave and Nola), you guys are incredible. To the rest of the Striders: YOU are my silver lining. YOU are what made this last year possible. Many thanks for your warm welcome and support of Nick both during deployment and at his most perfect homecoming. Thanks for showing him the Buffalove. ~Kenzi Registration Open Lancaster 1 Mile race August 24, 2017 Como Park Open Female 6:30pm Open Male 7:00pm Entry fee $15 with day of race costing $18 Register on line at Score-this.com or mail in your registration. Since there is no race that day, what better way to take a nice ride along the Buffalo water front. Looking to Start at the Swannie House around 630pm and make our way to the River Grill in Tonawanda. This is approximately a 16 mile out and back ride with the option to bail out at mile 4 which happens to be the Resurgence Brewery Company. You can hang out there until the others return from the River Grill in Tonawanda. Those who plan on making the initial 8 mile ride to the Grill can refresh with a ice cold drink and then make our way back with a stop at Resurgence. From there we will head back to the Swannie House.
