Good Sam would have been proud. Semi-finals. It was great fun and we accepted defeat with humility, discussed and resentment. Perhaps Good Sam wouldn t have been proud but he would have understood. Dick November 2016 Editor Sandy Ritcey Email: ocalacentralsams@yahoo.com Facebook: Ocala Central Sams From our Chaplain Dick: There were two great stories this year in the world of sports. Of course there was the Cubs historic World Series win, but the more notable and epic event was the dramatic final round of the bean bag baseball game at the Eustis Rally; where a rag-tag team of over-the-hill RV junkies would rise to the occasion much like the American Hockey team of 1980. That Hockey game became known as The Miracle on Ice and now the Ocala Central Sams Team 5 has been referred to as the miracle on grass The tournament boasted hundreds of Florida s finest bag throwers, but the elite eight of team 5, now known as America s Team, were not intimidated. Once we were able to get up out of our chairs, we struggled to the plate and flipped our bags the best we could toward the big white board at the end of that long green mile, hoping against hope that some would actually reach their destination and fall through a hole-any hole. There were so many heroes that I can t remember them all, but I know that there were at least two. This story could go on forever but I know that your eyes are probably getting tired by now, and it s almost time for my nap. So I ll end the suspense by saying that team 5 lost in the finals by a score of 5 to 3 after winning three straight games and then drawing a bye in the semi-finals. It was great fun and we accepted defeat with humility, discussed and 1
November 12, 2016 Ocala Central Sams Southern Palms, Eustis- Good Sams Rally Present: Neblock, Mentzel/Miner, Allan, Errett, Ritcey, Ken Young, Gary, Wayne, Rose Marie, Chynoweth, Becker and Ted & Jody. Rick Neblock, president, called the meeting to order at 1:57. New Business- The club is currently using Wells Fargo Bank, due to 3 factions we may need to change banks. 1. Distance of bank from Karen. 2. Bank repossessing cars illegally from vets in turn ruining their credit. 3. Bank repossessing homes illegally from vets also ruining their credit. Second Place Winners!! President Rick Neblock called a special meeting at the Samboree rally. Dick motioned to close the Wells Fargo Bank account, Gary seconded and all were in favor. Allan motioned to open a new account with Regions Bank with two signatures requiring two Social Security numbers. Jody seconded and all were in favor. Gary motioned to appoint the President of the club as the second signer of checks other than the treasurer. Rose Marie Ladue, a new member, seconded and all were in favor. There is a better way, open an account and using a 501C3 for non-profit. This requires filing an application and answering a lot of crazy questions due to money laundering. Rick will be using the assistance of JoAnn since she is an ex manager of a bank and see what happens. Rick also suggested at the president meeting today that one of the $25,000 bonds be cashed and donated to the three charities sponsored by Good Sams. It was voted on to donate $5,000 to each charity: Boggy Creek, Florida Guide Dogs and Dogs for the Deaf. Our lottery ticket sales went very well. After expenses of $50 cash and $50 Lotto tickets we cleared $383. Thanks to our committee and volunteers we did very well. It was suggested that 2
we make a stand out of PVC to hang our cork board from, so it stands up higher and can be seen better. Our board is getting lost. It was decided that there was enough spare PVC amidst the members to put one together. One of our bean baseball teams came in second and consisted of Ted, Jody, Gary, Ken, Rob, Larry, Dick and Wayne. CONGRADUATIONS! One of our Bocce Ball teams (Ted, Jody, Sherry and Ken) went to the third game. We have a new member who joined, Rose Marie Ladue. We also have had 3 other couples ask about our club and want to visit. At 2:20 Burt motioned to adjourn. Respectfully submitted by secretary, Sandra Ritcey. A group of us were lucky enough to go to Boggy Creek for a tour. We are standing in front of a fantastic L-shaped pool designed especially for special needs. Following are some pictures taken of the medical and housing facilities. 3
