ain OCTOBE R 2013 Volume 5, Issue 10 OSCEOLA DECORATIVE ARTISTS An Affiliated Chapter of Society of Decorative Painters www.osceoladecorativeartists.com President s Message By Mary Francis Happy Autumn! Up north the leaves are starting to turn and some of our snowbirds are starting to return. Here, our beautiful cypress trees are losing their green and temps start to cool a bit. A busy time of the year is here. Guess I d best get busier and finish some of the things I m sending away for Christmas gifts. What have you been painting lately? I know it s been something you enjoy. Our final seminar of the year is going to be this month. I so look forward to our seminars. They usually bring us a bit more challenging projects. On Saturday, October 19, Tina Norris will be showing us a new technique (to me) of painting with watercolors and water soluble pencils. Then on Sunday we ll be doing pencils on a wonderful new surface for most of us. This will be a great learning experience. Hope you will join us. November is our Mystery Program. Carol and I will be giving you a class with some history and I will be showing you new processes I m sure you will enjoy. All you need for this class is a couple of brushes and your water bin for cleaning brushes! See the signup sheet for more information. Remember to sign up early as we only have enough room for 20 of you! We will also have a short meeting during the lunch hour in which we ll vote in our new officers and look at the budget. December brings us our Christmas Party and all the fun that goes with it. Can t wait to see what Kathy and her co-conspirators have been plotting and planning. We ll also have the installation of officers that day. The Christmas party is always so much fun when we let our hair down and just enjoy ourselves. Year end is winding down. Until next time, Mary Special Announcement!!! Since the chapter hasn't done a seminar or workshop with watercolor pencils, for the first 15 members to sign up for this class the 12 watercolor pencils will be included in your cost of $40. There are already 14 signed up! Tina has asked that you bring a support for the Heron, it is easier to handle. This could just be a piece of cardboard or foam board a little bigger that the piece which is 8"x20" and bring an old scruffy brush for the masking fluid.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING FOOD. A $5 ticket to the party will include delicious soups, a salad, dessert, drinks and take-home goodies. And, at the end of the party we will draw names for the decorations. All you have to bring is an item for the Chinese auction (if you wish to participate). The item can be anything Christmas related. We need to know how many are attending and collect money for the meal right away, so see Kathy to buy a ticket.

Visit us at: www.osceoladecorativeartists.com There will be a Board of Directors meeting at the Center on Saturday, November 2 at 10 AM. Show and Tell Have you recently completed a project at home, at a seminar, at a convention, at another chapter, etc.? If the answer is YES, please bring that item to an ODA chapter meeting and share it during the Show and Tell portion of our meeting! Why should you share your projects? There are many reasons and the following are just a few: It keeps us all up to date on what is new and exciting in the painting industry. It motivates chapter members to complete their own projects. It introduces other members to different artists/teachers and different painting styles. It allows you to share new techniques learned at seminars and/or conventions. YOU EARN DECORATIVE DOLLARS! So, everyone look through the projects you have recently completed, pick out a couple of your favorites, and bring them along to the next chapter meeting and share with your fellow members.

This chapter was formed for the purpose of having a state retreat. In the year 1998 the first meetings were held with representatives of many Florida chapters. The focus of our retreat experience will always be on decorative painting education, but no less important is fellowship. This will be an opportunity to meet and share experiences and ideas with painters from all over the state as well as take classes with some of our own talented Florida teachers. www.ssdaflorida.com More information on this retreat is available at www.ssdaflorida.com.
