Town of Forestburgh Newsletter November 2018 Board and Committee News: For a copy of the minutes and/or agendas, please visit our website at forestburgh.net. While on the website, please check the calendar for upcoming events and meetings. Town Board The Town Board adopted the 2019 Budget which will have less than 1% increase in taxes. Spending is actually down, and services have not been cut, but the budget is getting tighter and tighter with less carryover every year, thus resulting in a slight tax levy increase. This is the 3 rd year in a row we ve stayed under the State imposed 2% tax cap. The Town Board also voted last spring to opt out of the Sullivan County Snow and Ice contract, saving Forestburgh Residents over $90,000 a year in doing so. This means that Sullivan County themselves will be responsible for plowing and sanding their own roads. County roads are easily identified. Other than State Rte. 42, they are the only other roads in Forestburgh that have painted lines. If there is a problem on a county road please call the county DPW directly-(845)807-0261, or 911. Sullivan County has the resources, and can easily supply the same level of service the Town has provided for years. The monthly Forestburgh Town Board meetings are held the 1 st Thursday of every month at 7pm in the Town Hall, located at 332 King Rd., Forestburgh. Be sure to check the Town s website at forestburgh.net for a list of upcoming meetings, times, agenda and minutes. The November Town Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 7:00 pm in the Town Hall. Planning Board The Planning Board held its regular meeting on October 25, and continued its review of the proposed draft subdivision code. It will continue this review at its meeting on November 27, 2018, at 7pm. There are presently no applications pending before the Planning Board. Zoning Rewrite Committee The next Zoning Rewrite Committee meeting is scheduled for November 13, 2018 from 7-9pm at Town Hall. We will have a guest speaker from County Planning. Announcements: Forestburgh Highway Department Burns Road will be closed for the winter. A reminder to the residents of Forestburgh hat the sand/salt shed is set up outside the Town Barn gate located at 1401 Sackett Lake Rd. The Highway Department is still busy doing a lot of preparation clean up to get ready for winter. The Highway Department would like to wish the residents of Forestburgh a Happy Thanksgiving, and to have a safe winter. Monticello Central School District The Monticello Central School District will hold a Referendum Vote on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Forestburgh Town Hall. The polls will be open form 8:00AM to 8:00PM. Please note that paper ballots will be used. For more information on the referendum vote visit www.monticelloschools.net or attend a school board meeting.

Forestburgh Fire Department The Forestburgh Firehouse will host their annual Roast Beef Dinner on Saturday, November 10 th at the firehouse. Serving will begin at 5:00pm. $13 for adults and $6 for children- eat in or take out. For additional information please contact Jim Galligan at 794-2095. Congratulations to Town Assessor The Town Assessor, Dennis Ketcham, was recently honored by the Northeast Regional Association Officers at the NYS Assessors Conference held earlier last month in Binghamton with the Sherry Vermilya Award in recognition of outstanding service to the assessment profession. This award was created in memory of Sherry Vermilya s support of NRAAO principles and his untiring efforts to assist assessors throughout the entire country and in particular, the northeast. Congratulations to Dennis for all your hard work and dedication! Forestburgh Senior Events If you are interested in joining the Forestburgh Senior Club, please contact Sabina Toomey at 794-2702. The meetings for the Forestburgh Seniors will be the first Wednesday of every month unless there is a holiday, then an alternate date will be scheduled. Forestburgh Wellness The Total Body Fitness Classes will be held on Wednesdays at 5:30pm. The classes will be held downstairs in the Forestburgh Town Hall. For full details see the flyer on our websitewww.forestburgh.net- under Boards/Committees-Worksite Wellness. Bring your own yoga mat and water bottle. It s a great time!! Sullivan 180 There will be a short questionnaire at the Roast Beef Dinner on Saturday at the Fire House. We re asking, if you haven t done so already, please fill this questionnaire out and return it that evening. We are relying on the feedback of our community members to help guide us in the direction you wish to see this program going. Thank you! If you would be interested in being a part of the Wellness Circle for Forestburgh 180 please contact Karen Ellsweig at (484)225-5211.
