I hope that all of you had a terrific holiday season. I also hope that this first edition of the 2010 Channel Marker finds you in great health, good spirits and gets you as excited about the upcoming year as I am. You may already know that I will be flying two burgees this year because I have accepted the Fleet Captain duties in addition to serving as the Rear Commodore. I would like to start the year by admitting to being a little nervous in addition to being excited. We all know what a terrific job that Fleet Captain Vinnie & Maureen did last year, I can only hope to serve the members of GLSBC as well this year. With the traditional GLSBC functions like Family Day & the Steak Roast, throw in a few AYC, ILYA and Blue Gavel functions, add in a few rendezvous and 2010 looks surprisingly full before the year even starts. If any of your schedules are as busy as mine with work, family and other functions, it is extremely difficult to cram everything in. So, in an attempt to let everyone know as early as possible, I compiled a list of dates for 2010. Here are a few of the functions that I am planning: - Saturday 1/30: GLSBC Bowling, 4PM until 7PM at Belmar Lanes, then immediately following, Stone Pizza, salad & refreshments at GLSBC s Clubhouse with the entertainment provided by DJ Ron Lovasz. There are only a few spots open at the time that I am writing this so let me know if any of you would like to participate. If you are not interested in bowling, come on down to Belmar & support or sympathize with those that are bowling. - Sunday, 5/16: Blessing of the Fleet - Friday & Saturday, 5/28 & 5/29: GLSBC Two Day poker Run. - 6/18 thru 6/20: GLSBC Rendezvous at Harbor Hill Marina in Detroit. - 7/7 thru 7/9: A Wednesday & Thursday GLSBC rendezvous at St Clair and on the return trip; - 7/9 thru 7/10: GLSBC rendezvous at Algonac s Harbor Club - 7/24 and/or 7/25: GLSBC rendezvous at Barge Bay - 8/6 thru 8/8: GLSBC rendezvous at Holiday Harbour - 9/9 thru 9/12: GLSBC rendezvous at Bob-Lo for the Southern Ontario Wine Festival held at Amhurstburg - 12/3 thru 12/5: GLSBC rendezvous via train to Chicago. There will be more details as the events are finalized and get closer. Until next month, stay warm! Rick & Michelle Kasza VC & FC GLSBC 3
