His teams have averaged 24 victories per year, while becoming a regular fi xture in the NCAA Tournament. Green has accumulated a 273-91 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning percentage of.750. He ranked 10th all-time among NCAA Division I women s basketball coaches in winning percentage to begin the year, ahead of renowned coaching names like Rutgers Vivian Stringer, LSU s Van Chancellor and North Carolina s Sylvia Hatchell. More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament 10 times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more victories during nine of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the fi rst time in program history. Green has actually been to the postseason on 22 occasions as a women s basketball coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but one of the 22 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament. In 2009-10, Liberty made another trip to the Big Dance, despite fi elding a young team which featured only one senior. The Lady Flames fi nished the year with a 27-6 record and hoisted the Big South Tournament championship trophy for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons. Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and the 2009-10 Lady Flames were certainly no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents by an average of 13.9 caroms per game, leading the nation in the category. The Lady Flames have now been listed among the nation s top fi ve teams in rebounding margin for seven straight years. Liberty previously led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The Lady Flames also ended the season ranked in the top 10 nationally for scoring defense (second, school-record 50.0 ppg), fi eld goal percentage (second,.482) and scoring margin (seventh, +17.2). A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty s career wins leader. The 2004-05 year was a special one on Liberty Mountain, for many reasons. A seniorladen Lady Flames team recorded upset wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No. 5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the fi rst two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the second team ever to advance to the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended the season with their highest national ranking to date, 21st (USA Today/ESPN). Green s track record shows he has the ability to meet those challenges. The Lady Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest during Green s tenure. The upset victory over No. 23 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty s fi rst win over a Top 25 team. His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a.911 (174-17) winning percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with one or fewer setbacks seven times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated conference seasons.

The Lady Buccaneers are known for their three-point shooting, leading the Big South and ranking No. 29 nationally with 136 triples this season. Headlining the barrage is Katie Tull, who has hit 56 trifectas this year. With 263 career three-pointers, the 5-9 senior guard needs just one more trey to break the Big South Conference career record. Tull, the reigning Big South Player of the Week, also leads the Big South in scoring, with 15.1 ppg. She is coming off of a 27-point effort during Monday s home win over UNC Asheville. Kelsey Wasmer, a 5-10 redshirt senior guard, ranks among the Big South leaders in scoring (4th, 13.8 ppg), rebounding (6th, 7.1 rpg) and three-pointers made (7th, 31). She enters Saturday s game just 24 points shy of 1,000 for her career. The Coaching Matchup Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 12th season with the Lady Flames, and has led his team to 10 Big South titles. A fi ve-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns a 273-91 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South women s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.750) ranked 10th all-time among NCAA Division I women s basketball coaches at the season s outset. Green is 25-0 all-time against Charleston Southern. Julie Goodenough is 56-85 in her fi fth season at Charleston Southern and 267-198 in her 16th overall season as a collegiate head coach. Previous to her time with the Lady Buccaneers, Goodenough was Oklahoma State s head coach for three seasons (2003-05). She is 0-9 all-time versus Liberty. Liberty-Charleston Southern Series Notes Liberty has enjoyed a considerable amount of success versus Charleston Southern over the years, leading the head-to-head series by a 42-5 count. The Lady Flames have won 27 straight matchups with the Lady Buccaneers, by an average of 23.3 ppg. The Lady Flames have recorded 16 straight wins over the Buccaneers at the Vines Center, since a 65-64 CSU victory on Jan. 20, 1996. The Buccaneers Chrissy Kelly scored four of her seven points in the fi nal 42 seconds, including the game-winning jumper with just fi ve ticks remaining. Michelle Wyms led the Lady Flames with 21 points and eight boards. Charleston Southern s most recent triumph over Liberty was a 66-60 decision, Jan. 18, 1999 at the CSU Field House. In that game, CSU overcame a 14-point fi rst-half defi cit, as well as Sharon Wilkerson s eight triples and 26 points for the Lady Flames. Last season, Avery Warley stood out during Liberty s pair of wins over Charleston Southern. She notched a pair of double-doubles and shot 81 percent (17-of-21) from the fi eld, while averaging 20.0 ppg and 13.0 rpg versus the Lady Buccaneers. She set a Vines Center fi eld goal percentage record on Feb. 22, 2010 versus CSU, shooting 9-for-9. Liberty held Katie Tull in check last season. She was scoreless in the game at Liberty (Feb. 22, 2010) and tallied 11 points at home versus the Lady Flames (Jan. 23, 2010). Liberty...Statistical Comparison... CSU 9-8...Record... 9-9 38.9... Opposing teams are shooting just 26.3 percent from beyond the three-point arc against Liberty. Streak Busters Radford s 62-53 win over Liberty, Monday at the Vines Center, broke a number of winning streaks by the Lady Flames. Prior to the Radford contest, Liberty had won... 5 straight games overall (since a loss to No. 17/17 St. John s on Dec. 28, 2010). 7 straight home games (since a loss to Gardner-Webb on Feb. 8, 2010). 8 straight games against Radford (since a loss on March 9, 2007). 10 straight Big South home openers (since a loss to Elon on Jan. 13, 2000). 16 straight home games against Radford (since a loss on Feb. 3, 1996). 42 straight January home games (since a loss to Elon on Jan. 13, 2000). Bouncing Back Liberty will attempt to get back on the winning track Saturday, after dropping Monday night s contest to Radford. History is on the Lady Flames side, as Liberty has not lost back-to-back Big South Conference games since Feb. 20 and 22, 1997. The Lady Flames lost those two contests to UNC Greensboro and Winthrop. One week later, Liberty avenged both losses while winning its fi rst-ever Big South Conference title. Home Sweet Home Sophomore Jelena Antic paced the Lady Flames with 15 points during Monday s game against Radford, continuing her trend of playing well at the Vines Center. Dating back to last season, Antic has scored in double fi gures during six consecutive home games. For her career, Antic is averaging 11.4 ppg at home, as compared to her 7.6 ppg average in road and neutral contests. Multiple Milestones Redshirt sophomore Devon Brown reached the 700 career point milestone Monday against Radford, becoming the 29th Lady Flame ever to do so. It took Brown only 43 games to score 700 points. Teammate Avery Warley is closing in on two milestones of her own. She is four points shy of 800 for her career and 11 rebounds away from 700. Only 20 Liberty players have ever scored 800 career points, and only fi ve have ever grabbed 700 career rebounds. The only Lady Flames who fi nished their career with more than 800 points and 700 rebounds are Katie Feenstra, Megan Frazee, Elena Kisseleva and Sharon Snodgrass. In Good Company With 21 career double-doubles, Avery Warley ranks fi fth in program history. She trails only a pair of WNBA players (Megan Frazee and Katie Feenstra) and a pair of Liberty Athletics Hall of Famers (Elena Kisseleva and Theresa Bream). Frazee owns the school record with 50 double-doubles, followed by Feenstra with 49. Kisseleva fi nished with 25 double-doubles, while Bream totaled 23. New Year s Resolution Liberty owns a 167-107 all-time record in January contests, including an 83-10 mark under head coach Carey Green. Last season, the Lady Flames went 8-1 during the calendar year s fi rst month. This year, Liberty is 4-1 in January, with all four victories coming on the road. The Lady Flames, who have nine January games on the schedule this year, had won 42 straight January home games, before Monday night s 62-53 loss to Radford.
