Game #107, Home Game #48 - Saturday, August 1st - Durham Bulls Athletic Park - 6:35 p.m. Gwinnett Braves (54-51, 3rd, 8.0 GB) vs. Durham Bulls (52-54, 4th, 10.5 GB) RHP Tyrell Jenkins (2-1, 2.16) vs. LHP Scott Diamond (9-4, 3.89) Tonight's Game The Bulls play game two of a three-game series against the Gwinnett Braves in the first series of a season-long 10-game homestand. Durham is 1-4 over its last five, is 3-9 over its last 12, and is just 5-11 since the All-Star Break. The Bulls have dropped 27 of their last 40 contests to go from a 2.0-game lead in the IL South to a 10.5-game deficit, their largest division deficit of the season. Gwinnett - the Atlanta Braves' top affiliate - is 9-6 since the All-Star break, but is 8-3 over its last 11 contests. Today marks the fifth straight game between the two teams, with Gwinnett taking three of the first four. About Last Night The Bulls dropped the series opener 8-4 to the G-Braves. After scoring the game's first run and leading 1-0 through three winnings, Gwinnett scored four in the 4th frame and three in the 5th en route to the victory. More About Last Night Durham dropped its fourth straight series opener... RHP Dylan Floro allowed at least five earned runs for the ninth time this season in 21 starts, and is now tied for the league-lead with 10 losses... The Bulls dropped 10.5 games back of first place, the team's largest division deficit since ending the 2012 regular season 17.0 games back of Charlotte. July Roundup Durham closed out the month of July with an 11-16 record, the team's worst record in July since 2005 (10-17)... The Bulls closed out the month with the league's worst batting average (.233) and 3rd-worst ERA (4.73)... Durham committed a league-high 34 errors in 27 games... The team won back-to-back games just twice, while dropping three straight games on three occasions... The Bulls went 8-14 against IL South teams. Erroneous On Both Accounts Durham made three errors last night, and has now committed 12 errors over its past four games. The Bulls'.976 fielding percentage is 2nd-worst in the IL behind Indianapolis (.975), while the team's 94 errors are tied for the 2nd-most with Pawtucket, trailing Indy (101). Durham made a league-high 34 errors in July, one fewer than they made in May (23) and June (12) combined. Rehab Corner Last night OF Desmond Jennings began a rehab assignment for left knee bursistis, and his 0-for-3, two-walk outing was his first game action since 4/25. Jennings is the 10th player to rehab with the Bulls this season, after Durham welcomed just four rehabbers a season ago. The outfielder became the 54th player to appear in a game for the Bulls in 2015, the most players the team has used in a single season since 2012 (56). Try And Keep Up Durham made a season-high seven transactions yesterday, but only one was related to the trade deadline. After Tampa Bay dealt RHP Kevin Jepsen to Minnesota for two minor league pitchers, RHP Kirby Yates was recalled to take his spot in the bullpen. With two more transactions today, the Bulls have now undergone 164 transactions this season, just eight shy of the single-season franchise record (172, 2008). Back And Forth OF Mikie Mahtook, recalled by Tampa Bay yesterday, was optioned after last night's game after going 2-for-4 with an RBI, double and two runs scored in the Rays' 7-5 loss in Boston. Between Triple-A and the MLB he's batting.368 (14-for-38) over his last 10 games. In that span he has five multi-hit games, after tallying just five multi-hit games his previous 57 games between the two levels. Going Streaking INF Ryan Brett enters tonight in the midst of a season-long eight-game hitting streak (11-for-35)... Utility man Taylor Motter enters tonight in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak (8-for-25), his fifth hitting streak of at least seven games this season... INF Jake Elmore enters tonight in the midst of a 10-game Triple-A hitting streak (15-for-38), but hasn't played in a Triple-A game since 5/23. What A Difference A Year Makes The Bulls went 38-26 against the IL South a season ago, winning the division by 9.0 games despite a 75-69 record. This season Durham is just 20-26 against division rivals, and sits 10.5 games behind first-place Norfolk, which enters today with the best record in the IL (62-43). Series With Gwinnett Gwinnett holds a 10-7 series edge this season, and with four games between the teams remaining, is one win away from clinching the season set for the first time since 2012. Since the G-Braves moved to Gwinnett in 2009, they have won the season series just twice (2010, 2012). All four games remaining will be played in Durham. Who (Else) Is Hot Since his promotion from Double-A Montgomery 6/26, OF Boog Powell has reached base safely in 26-of-29 games... RHP Jhan Marinez has allowed one run over his last six outings.
