QUOTE OF THE MONTH Though your game is hardly the best, you can fray your opponent's nerves By methodically bouncing the ball at least ten times before your serves. ~Arnold J. Zarett INSIDE THIS ISSUE Upcoming Tournaments 2 College Recruit Videos 2 Private Video Clinics 3 Sunaskeo Update 3 Player of the Month Shoutout 3 Mission Statement 4 DECEMBER 2009 The HIGH-TECH TENNIS journey has certainly been exciting (and more than a little challenging). As we finish the 4 th year of our existence, we thought it might be fun to look back at the highlights : Year 1: We were naively surprised and completely unprepared for how much hard work it would take to build a business out of nothing but thin, thin air. Year 2: We discovered junior tournaments and drove all over God s creation in pursuit of same (Belton, Valdosta, Florence We were literally EVERYWHERE). Unfortunately, our profits during those early tournaments only occasionally covered our gas. Year 3: We recognized that players at the higher levels were more committed and more willing to take advantage of technology. At last, we had identified our target customers and we realized that they compete at the high-level tournaments (southern designated, southern level 3, and nationals) so we targeted those events. Year 4: We focused on developing and maintaining strong relationships with tournament directors and other key individuals in the tennis world because we fully recognize that the value of those relationships is IMMEASURABLE. WHEW. So what s coming in Year 5??? ALSO, by the time you read this, the Challenge Week will be here and HIGH-TECH TENNIS is very proud to participate in the Music City Challenge, December 5 th, in Nashville, TN. STOP AND SAY HELLO! THANKS TO TREVOR SHORT FOR BELIEVING IN HIGH-TECH TENNIS! We ve come a long way, BABY who can forget the crazy guy with the ladder? but we haven t done it alone. Thank YOU for your support!!! Is Your Plan Working? By Duey Evans Heading into November means junior players are moving into the 3-month mark of the new year, making this an important time to take a look at where you stand in relation to the plan you put into place back in August or September. You may remember the article I wrote discussing the importance of getting a written plan in place for achieving your goals this year. Now, I want to talk about why you ve got to check in every three months to see how you re doing with that plan and your performance goals. At Sunaskeo, we believe it s important to assess each player at various points along their growth journey. We want to gauge where a player is now compared to three months ago, what kind of progress each player is making or understand why if they re not making any progress, as well as determine if any adjustments are needed in their plan. Over the past couple of months it may have felt like you weren t making any progress and you were getting frustrated, but right about now you re starting to see that you re becoming more comfortable with what you ve been working on. Maybe you ve encountered moments during matches where you think this is exactly what I ve been working on during practice. It could be that you ve been excluding certain elements of your game in order to focus on something new and you just haven t been able to incorporate the old with the new yet consistently. Or maybe you re just feeling truly confused, and don t understand where anything is going. If either of those scenarios is the case, than this is the perfect time to sit down and get your coach s perspective on how you re doing relative to your goals and plan. If it doesn t look like you re on pace to reach your goals, then you need to examine whether you had a faulty plan or did you not follow the plan. There can be any number of reasons why you didn t follow the plan, but you must figure out why. Let me give a few scenarios that will help you ask the right questions. Were you not able to follow the plan because 60% of the days you went out to hit extra balls it rained? Or was it that your parents had to beg you too much and finally gave up because if you were-n t going to do it on your own they decided they weren t going to push you? It could it be that you re not hitting enough balls so you ve got to increase those numbers in order to see results. Maybe you re hitting too many serves and your arm is getting sore. If that s the case, you need to back off how much you re serving and do physical training to make those muscle groups stronger, more resilient so you can put in a tougher practice. Another scenario could be that you did everything in your plan, but you re still not on target. If that s the case, it would be smart to get another set of eyes to look at what s going on technically with your game.

The truth of the matter is if you don t check in to see where you are in relation to your plan then you don t know if you re still heading in the right direction, you don t really know what to adjust, you don t know if you ve made the right adjustments all which could lead to you becoming like a ship aimlessly adrift in the ocean. Good luck and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have at info@snavegroup.com. Additionally, you can go to www.sunaskeo.com and www.topstennis.com for information on a variety of junior tennis topics.
