TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Nov 12.. page 5 President s Report Bruce Lethborg Hi Guys, November is here, that means AGM time. The committee is an important part of the club. The committee makes the decisions on how the club is run, events for the year and manages club funds. Would you like to have a go on the committee? We would like you to come to the AGM and have a go, it is not hard, nor is it rocket science. In particular, we need a Treasurer, Editor and Webmaster. The guys in these positions need to stand down due to work commitments and health reasons so please consider a position on the committee. Sandown on Cup day was great, 83 entries and it was fabulous to see 16 members come along to help. FFCC hired some flaggies as they didn t know if there was going to be enough help, but there was plenty. Thanks guys. Now I have rather sad news about the Holden/Ford series for next year it is not happening. After five or six years, FFCC have decided to go it alone next year for various reasons, but they will still support any events that we run in 2013 and I would hope that HSCCV members do the same for FFCC events. We have Sandown booked for April 28 th and we have two motorkhanas booked at Sandown on the jockey s car park which is bitumen and that guarantees us the khanas will run and not be washed out. With the Holden/Ford series not happening, the committee is looking at the rules for club plates as far as participation in events for signing rego papers. We are working on what type of events will qualify.stay tuned. Club points are now in camera and close at the AGM. If you have events you want scored for 2012, please email them to me before the AGM. Also if you have one of the perpetual trophies, please return it to me at the AGM. Four members recently competed in the second round of the Australian Tarmac Rally series, Targa High Country based at Mt Buller. Peter Dixon and Marty Anger in their HQ Monaro and Kim McConchie and myself in the VL 308 Clown car for team Pistonbrokeagain and had a ball travelling on the roads around Mansfield, Jamison and Eildon at break neck speed, tearing up the bitumen and generally having a good time. Both teams finished with no problems. Peter and Marty finished well in the outright and class. Kim and I finished a little further down the list BUT we beat the Lamborghini this year. (Targa pics next page Ed) One thing had us a bit puzzled as we found a Porsche on its roof on the long stage on Sunday. Talking to a person at the lunch break I found out that the car is one of only three in the country, a 997 911 GT3 4.0 litre. The puzzling thing is the car was in the touring group, these guys were all behind a lead car that did not exceed the legal speed limits, no helmets or roll cages, mmm... me thinks this guy was hanging back and hooning..i d like to see the insurance claim. For Kim and I, this is our last Targa as Kim is being posted overseas with his work and the car is up for sale, so if anyone would like to do Targa High Country and needs a co driver I m available. Cheers Bruce Committee TORQUE

TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Nov 12.. page 7 Vice-President s Report Frank Rogan Hi All, Christmas will be beating down the door soon but the year is not over yet there are a few more events to participate as a competitor or an official, with more on that shortly. We had a bunch of our club members who came out and filled the officiating roles for the Cup Day Sprint at Sandown. So much so, that it was an oversubscription with something like three people per flag point. If we could get half those numbers at every Sandown and Winton over the past couple of years we might be still running the Holden v Ford series with Ford Four Car Club next year. Yes, that is correct Ford Four have decided to go it alone in 2013. For Cup Day they hired 4 people as helpers, which goes to show that they had little faith that our club were going to have enough people there on the day. Granted some of our officials were sprinters who for one reason or another were unable to compete but even so, we were very well represented on the day. Thank you to one and all who made the effort to assist. October 28 was supposed to be a motorkhana hosted by Nissan Car Club but it was cancelled early in the week as there supposedly wasn t any suitable ground to run it. I checked the e-group that Sunday morning but in my haste didn t check it properly, and as I hadn t noticed the cancellation post much earlier in the week I ventured out to Pakenham. Being a Group 5 round, I never bothered to chase Supp Regs either as I knew I d be able to enter on the day. Well, despite arriving to a locked gate at Pakenham, from the fence at least it looked quite dry and usable and I m convinced it was because I d been checking the weather on my phone (I can set it to suburb) and no rain had fallen for a week in the area. Oh well, that s how it goes sometimes. Mal Cardwell passed me on the freeway; he was heading down as I was leaving, so I flagged him over on the freeway when he was on his way back and we had a good chat on the side of the road. As you read this report, the annual HAC interclub (motorkhana) will have been run and won, if we the people triumph over the weather gods for a change. This coming weekend (25 th November) will see a Group 5 motorkhana at Pakenham hosted by FFCC and PAC (Pakenham Auto Club) and the Island Magic Sprint at Phillip Island. The spare khana date on December 9 has been taken up by our club I believe in conjunction with Huntingdale Auto Club (HAC). We may or may not need help on the day but volunteers are always welcome. CAMS CARnival and the Geelong Revival are scheduled for December 1 & 2. CAMS CARnival was unfortunately cancelled on Tuesday this week due to a low number of entrants 17 in total. Sounds like the organizers couldn t decide on the particulars of the events such as classes and what the event would actually be, so it explains the lack of numbers. Meanwhile the Geelong Revival is in full swing, with a huge competitor list including David Holc in a Walkinshaw, and Mick Hone (Peter Brock s navigator) in a Silver Cobra. The annual Christmas party has now been morphed into an Australia Day BBQ Presentation night. It is to be held on Monday January 28 at Cresco Park in Warrandyte. It s a BYO meat for a 6pm dinner and at around 7pm the presentation is to commence. Anyone with perpetual trophies, please return them on the club night on the 26 th November. We ve had a Group 5 meeting recently, with the main intention of arranging dates for next year. Some dates are being still being firmed up for the 2013 Calendar but as some are so rubbery right now the details cannot be released. What I can say is that the first Motorkhana for 2013 is a practice round at Werribee. Yes, Werribee. I used to joke and call the place where else but Werribee, but for maybe cont d... Committee TORQUE

TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Nov 12.. page 8 Vice-President s Report Frank Rogan cont d the past couple of years we have not been there. I have heard there is still some more ground preparation and fencing to complete but it should be good to go by then. I can also confirm that we have booked a sprint round at Sandown for late April 2013; it was the only date available there before August. Now we have to cross our fingers that the date won t clash with PIARC s sprints. FordFourCC are running a sprint on Queens Birthday next year and we are more than welcome to attend the event, as are their members and the rest of the Ford Alliance most welcome to come play at our event at Sandown in April along with any others that we host. Speaking of Sandown, HSCCV have gone on record to say that we will host a bitumen motorkhana in the carpark at Sandown in July next year. The door has been opened for a bunch of motorkhana events to be run there next year, despite my attempts to get one happening there for the 40 th birthday in August this year. PIARC initiated Sandown motorkhanas in August this year which is great. Now there are 5 motorkhanas earmarked for Sandown for 2013! November is the Annual General Meeting and therefore it s time to elect a new Committee for 2013. It sounds like most of the committee won t be re-standing, so I d like to express my thanks to all the current committee members for their support and say that I ve enjoyed working with them. I d think we d all like to see some fresh faces bring some new ideas to the club next year and we will encourage and support any and all who may desire to take this club forward in 2013. As I say, see you sideways or at the meeting. Committee TORQUE Frank.

TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Nov 12.. page 9 Secretary's Report Phil Slater Committee TORQUE Welcome to the November Magazine and what a busy few weeks we ve had in motorsport with the Cup Day sprint (sadly the last ever round of the Ford/Holden series), Targa High Country, The Sandown Historics, a PIARC sprint, the HAC interclub and the V8s at Winton. I was one of many officials that volunteered to help for Sandown with many volunteering to qualify for getting their Club Permit renewal signed. This shows that our new system works. I am working on a form that will be on the website as well as in the magazine and will need to be submitted with your permit renewal. You will need to either officiate or provide a friend/family member to officiate for you or you will not get your Permit renewed. The other event that I attended was the Sandown Historics with the XU-1 Owners group and as usual it was a fantastic day of Historic racing, great cars and getting together with like minded Torana nuts. We were positioned opposite Geoff s club Lion s pride and both Holden groups won awards for best display (Saturday Lion s Pride and Sunday XU-1 Owners) presented by John French. Finally, the AGM is coming up and we need members to come along and vote or even better stand for the committee as new blood is always needed. If you can t come along then fill out a proxy form and send it in (there is a copy in this edition...ed) Phil Slater Secretary

TORQUE the Holden Club magazine Nov 12.. page 10 Treasurer s Report Tamara Dennett Committee TORQUE Greetings Fellow Club Members, ANZ Balance: $5,000.50 ING Balance: $24,983.31 For those of us who had time at the 40th Birthday bash to bid on the Silent Auctions for the Laser Strike kindly donated by Craig Eddy, the Club is now expecting payments please. If you have paid already thankyou; to the others I will start chasing you next month. Also its renewal time again, $50 per year is all it costs. Come and see me at the AGM and we can figure it all out early. Please think the future of your club, there is a few positions up for grabs including the Treasurer s Role. The Treasurer s job on the committee is mainly writing cheques and banking. There is only really one busy time of year and that is at the beginning for renewals. If you want to know more about it just ask. I am more willing to help the new person take on this, not that difficult role. See you all on the track or sideways or at the meeting Tamara A note from the Editor... This month... We have pics from the club s Sandown sprint (run with FFCC) and the last Group5 Sprint at Phillip Island (run by PIARC) thanks to Julie. A reminder to members who take video of their motorsport efforts and then post them up on YouTube please also post a link to these on the club s Facebook page. That way...all members can see that hot lap or great time! Tony Cott s Sandown Safari is a great example! This is my last edition as HSCCV Editor, the 3 years I have done this have whizzed by. For a variety of reasons, I am unable to do this in future or be a club committee member but am more than happy to assist with any handover (pic files, email list, scissors, glue..lol ). To all members please give the new editor all the assistance that I have received during my stint Ed
