Call to Order Curtis Nichols C. Nichols called the meeting to order at 10:02 PM on Sunday, June 2 and welcomed everyone. 2. Moment of Silence A moment of silence was observed for those individuals who had passed away over the past season. 3. Introductions Curtis Nichols recognized the Life Members who were in attendance, Dave Ganley, John Kobal, and Duncan MacDougall. Curtis Nichols also introduced the Provincial Executive, Zone Chairmen, and Hockey Alberta staff who were at the head table. Curtis Nichols recognized Kumail Moledina, as he is leaving his position as North Zone Chairman. 4. Agenda Approval C. Nichols 4.1. Additions/Deletions None 4.2. Chairman Curtis Nichols Report circulated and highlighted a few items. The amount of time and effort our volunteers put in shows their dedication to our program, and it contributes to the success the program. Officials continue to succeed in Alberta with prestigious assignments, which is second to none in comparison with the rest of the country. The exchange continued with the ODHA. Recognized John Jacobs (Jake) for his induction to the Hockey Alberta Hall of Fame. Provincial Coordinators continue to do excellent work for the branch. Dave Butler adjusted well to his new position in replace of Dave Ganley as Secretary/Treasurer. There will be more work ahead with the removal of body checking from Peewee. The branch will need to increase the awareness and define the difference between body contact and body checking. Thanked the Hockey Alberta staff. 6.2. Past Provincial Chairman Wally Popik Nothing to report. 6.3. Treasurer/Registrar Dave Butler This year s operating deficit was $4,729, which is $211 less than budgeted. Budget for next year was completed at the Semi Annual in January. The budget for next season includes a deficit of $5,315. It was approved by the Hockey Alberta board. Will be adding Level 4/5 camp, and additional dollars for the registration process.

Page 3 of 8 The registration process was a growing pain off the start. The upcoming season will be much smoother. Hockey Canada has made some changes that will affect the process. Registration totals up by 32 officials from the past season. The turnover rate was higher than previous years. Encountered a problem in the last few years with instructors and Development Camp participants registering very late. A motion was made at the Executive meeting to add a deadline of October 15 th for these individuals to register. Motion: Dave Butler To accept the Auditor s Financial report as presented. Second: CJ Senkow CARRIED 6.4. Hockey Alberta Board of Directors Report Terry Engen Curtis Nichols made comments on behalf of Terry Engen Still working through the new Governance model and a shift to a new structure. It may effect this Council and the way it operates. 6.5. Zone Reports & Awards a) South John Kobal Presented the Zone Award to Todd Sharpe (Medicine Hat Referee Development Committee). b) Central Craig Decoursey The zone s officials continue to get high profile assignments. Goal Line system functioning very well. Financials were run through the system this past season. It also has the ability to track supervisions. A female official from Lethbridge, along with the locals, attended the South Female Development Camp. The officials had a great time. Geoff Dasilva and Rikki Lee Gavin worked hard this past season and produced a higher number of supervisions than the previous years. Thanked Jared Greenberg for the Senior AAA/ACAC swap. Thanked the North East zone for the Jr. B Provincials opportunity.

Page 4 of 8 Reported that the Mac s Midget tournament went very well. Thanked the supervisors that came out of zone. There was a Match on an Official on the female side. World Sport School Challenge went very well. Brought in a crew from Red Deer and Edmonton. There were 5 Provincial tournaments in the zone. There are changes to the zone executive, as Lance McKinnon is taking over as the Vice Chairman. Ross Wylie is now decreasing his role to just as the Clinic Coordinator. Nick Waterbury appointed as the new Director. Presented the Zone Award to Rick Oberten, Beau Gavin, and Jan Kruis. Presented Hockey Canada whistle to Rikki Lee Gavin (2013 Esso Cup). c) North Central Jared Greenberg All volunteers within the zone contributed very well this season. Thanked the zones for all the travel opportunities. The zone had 8 Provincial tournaments. Was a challenge to line up supervisors for the outlying areas. Presented Hockey Canada whistles to Dana Argue (2013 Esso Cup), and Chad Huseby (2013 Allan Cup). Presented Zone Award to CJ Senkow d) North East Dion Pollard Thanked the other zones for the swap opportunities. Turnover in the Zone Executive, as they have added new blood. Announced this will be his last year as Zone Chairman. Announced the winners of the Leo Wurtz Award. Presented the Zone Award to Chris Reid. e) North Kumail Moledina Report circulated and highlighted a few items. Thanked the Central Zone for Mac s and World Sport School Challenge travel opportunity. Announced that the zone has started a new rural initiative. Presented the Zone Award to Ron Oscroft, Sanjeev Bhagrath, and Ryan Weyland.

Page 5 of 8 Presented Hockey Canada whistles to Colin Watt (2013 Allan Cup), and Lacey Senuk (2013 CIS National Women s & Olympic Pre-Qualifier). f) Peace Marty Tingstad Another good year in the zone. Registrations numbers increased from the previous season. The zone sent an official (Erica Holmes) to the U18 National Championships. Thanked the Central Zone for the Mac s Midget tournament travel opportunity. The zone had 3 Provincial tournaments. The Alberta Cup Zone Camp went very well. Announced that CJ Senkow has moved back to the Grande Prairie. Thanked the Referee Council for their efforts this past season. Announced the Zone Award winner: Brad Buchinski. 6.6. Development Reports 6.6.1. Female Ryan Gregory Ryan Gregory not in attendance, therefore Curtis Nichols reported on his behalf. Thanked Ryan for his efforts this past season, being his first in the position. 6.6.2. Alberta Cup/Development Camp Mark Woytkiw Alberta Cup was in Strathmore. Thanked the Central Zone for providing supervisors. Development Camp is scheduled for July 2-7 in Camrose. Announced the instructors for the camp. 6.6.3. E Learning Mike Rebus The program has come along very well from a 2 year process, as it will be going live soon. Presented a sneak peak of the program to the group at the Executive meeting. Announced that all level 1 and new 2 s will be required to take the program. Will be transitioning to all one day clinics. There will be required adjustments to make, but hope to be a positive influence. Cost will be $19. 6.6.4. HCR Was covered in Dave Butler s Treasurer/Secretary report.

Page 6 of 8 6.6.5. Supervision Dave Ganley Task was to look after level upgrades and OPOE candidates. All officials were supervised at least once. Supervision Seminar scheduled for October 24-25 in Red Deer. Anyone interested in attending will need to contact their Zone Chairman. The target of the seminar is to help out at the grassroots level. 6.6.5.1 Level 4, 4L, 5 Upgrades Curtis Nichols announced the successful officials who received a level upgrade. Level 4: Lacey Senuk Level 5: Matt Barker, Beau Gavin, Clayton Hall, Kyle Kowalski, Daniel Gadowski, Matt Cassidy, and Kevin Webinger Level 4L: Deion Foster, Scott Knibbs, Cam Penstone 6.6.5.2 OPOE Candidates The candidates have been supervised. Will be discussing further at the Chairman s meeting next weekend during the Hockey Alberta AGM. 6.7. Provincial Leagues No league in attendance to give a report. 7. New Business 7.1. Hockey Canada AGM Curtis Nichols The removal of Body Checking was passed at the AGM. Announced that the Hockey Canada AGM will be in Calgary next year. 7.2. Criminal Record Checks Curtis Nichols All Zone Executive and the Provincial Executive to complete for the upcoming season. Reported that the council isn t ready to implement for all members. However, other branches are doing it. Took brief break at 10:51 AM. Meeting called back to order at 11:00 AM. 8. Awards & Scholarships 8.1. Golf Award Winners Curtis Nichols Everyone liked the new location of Wolf Creek.

Page 7 of 8 Thanked Lance McKinnon for organizing the event and will give his effort again for another year. 8.2. Future Leaders Scholarship Curtis Nichols Announced that Chris Rebus, Brendan Balagus, Kurtis Eykelbosh, and Chris Hunter received scholarships. 8.3. Referee Council Scholarships Wally Popik Briefly went over the process, which involved the applications being submitted to Wally and then onto the committee for review. The committee task to come up with the top 5. Over the last three years, committee member have agreed on the top 5 applicants. The caliber of officials applying is fantastic. Announced that the council may expand it the program to add additional winners. Announced the 2012/2013 winners, Tyler Adair & Breana Hardy, and presented them their scholarship money. 8.4. Ken Stiles Award Winner Curtis Nichols Announced that Kevin Ward (North) was a recipient of the scholarship this season. 8.5. HDC Award The award will be presented at the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala, where the winner, Lance McKinnon, will receive his award. 8.6. Hockey Alberta Hall of Fame Inductee Curtis Nichols congratulated John Jacobs for being inducted into the Hockey Alberta Hall of Fame. He will be recognized at the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala. 8.7. Dave Ganley Awards The winners this year are: Scott McNabb: He began officiating in 1981 in Saskatchewan. Is active in Alberta as a level 4 official. He Spent 12 years on the Central zone executive, 5 years being the Chairman, a member of the Hockey Calgary Board of Directors, a supervisor for many years, and is currently involved with the female program in the central zone. Craig Decoursey to present him his award at the next Zone Executive meeting. Dean Ziegler: Attended his first clinic in 1970. He got back into officiating in 1987, and is still active in the St. Albert area being involved with their RAMP program. He worked the Alberta Winter Games in 2000 and was a member of the Hockey

Page 8 of 8 Canada Mentorship Committee. Dean has been a Zone executive member for more than 10 years, currently the Clinic Coordinator. Craig Decoursey announced that Don Roberts is a recipient of the Hockey Alberta Meritorious Award. 8.8. Ernie Boruk Award The award will be presented at the Hockey Alberta Awards Gala. Wally Popik announced this year s winner, Mark Woytkiw. He is more than willing to accept whatever job that was given to him. Contributed to the development of many officials in our province. He has held a key role with the officiating program at the provincial level. Spent a quarter century as an on ice official. He also has been an assignor for his zone, a clinic instructor, and has been on the zone executive. Development Camp instructor in 2005 Since 2007 he has coordinated the Alberta Cup and Development Camp program. Received the Chairman and the Leo Wurtz Award in the Northeast Zone. Recipient of Hockey Alberta HDC award in 2011. 9. Next Meeting Referee Council AGM, June 1, 2014. 10. Adjournment Motion: Curtis Nichols To adjourn the meeting at 11:21 PM on June 1, 2013.
