Corl, Conrad take titles at RIT Invite ROCHESTER, N.Y. With wins over top-10 ranked wrestlers, junior Trevor Corl (Howard, Pa./Bellefonte Area) and senior Brandon Conrad (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) announced their presences on the national scene and won their weight classes at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 2, at Gordon Field House. Corl, the No. 4 seed at 149 pounds, dominated on his way to the title, accounting for 23 of Lycoming s 79 team points in the tournament, finishing with two tech falls and two pins in five bouts. The lone match that he didn t get bonus points in, he posted a takedown in the sudden-victory minute to give him a 3-1 win over Wesleyan s seventh-ranked Carter Armendarez in the semifinals. He opened with a 19-0 technical fall against Norwich s Shane Ryan before posting a 40-second pin of Scranton s T.J. Conlon and a 19-3 win over RIT s Zarek Thomas in the quarterfinals. In the championship match, Corl pinned RIT s Zach Stedeford in 1:25. Corl is now 17-1 this season. Conrad contributed 18 team points en route to the title at 174 pounds, where he beat Oswego s sixth-ranked Troy Seymour, 6-3, in the championship match. To get to the finals, Conrad, the No. 2 seed, pinned Case Western Reserve s Brian Kent in 1:01 before posting a 7-0 win over Worcester Polytechnic Institute s Mike Ilic, 7-0, and a 4-0 win over Blake Dixon in the semifinals. Conrad improved to 14-2 on the year, as he moved to within six wins of 100 in his career. Junior Garrett Wesneski (Canton, Pa./Canton) finished third at his second straight tournament, falling in the semifinals to fourth-ranked James Bethel of Oneonta, 13-0. He rebounded in the consolation semifinals with a 6-1 win over WPI s Austin Shrewsbury, ranked as honorable mention by d3wrestle.com. He also added a third-period pin of Oswego s Cade Andrews in the third place match. He opened the tournament with an 18-0 technical fall of Oswego s Ryan Kamer before pinning Wesleyan s Harrison Karp in 1:15 and notching another technical fall of Scranton s Keegan Connelly, 15-0 in the quarterfinals.
