Urban division 2. Classical & contemporary division 3. Theatre division 4. Acrobatics and disco division 5. Open division - Award ceremony o All finalists get diplomas. o All winners get diplomas, medals, cups. REGISTRATION The TRT Dance Masters - European Dance Championships is an OPEN INVITATIONAL competition! Invitations for participation and number of entries allowed in each division will be sent by the organizers based on results in previous seasons competitions. AGE CLASSES A competitor s age division is determined by his/her age at the day of the competition. Mini kids 3 7 years (only hip-hop and disco solo) Children 8-11 years Juniors 12 15 years Adults 16 and over Adults II 30 and over NUMBER OF DANCERS Production 29+ dancers Formation up to 28 dancers Small team 3 9 dancers Duo 2 dancers Solo 1 dancer TIME LIMITS Formation 2:30 4:00 Small team 2:30 3:30 Solo and duo 1:45 2:15 START FEES Solo and duo (participants own music) - 25, every other +10 Hip-hop and Disco solo and duo (organizers music) 15, every other +10 Production, Formation, Small team - first start 15, every other +5 5
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Props and requisites must not harm the dance floor. It is prohibited to use liquids, powders and body colors, or any live fire on stage. After the performance, the stage must remain as clean as it was before the performance. - Participation in the festival is based on timely paid participation fees. Late registrants and changes are subject to a separate price list. - Organizers must be notified of the absent performance no less than 90 min before the performance. - Participation fees for a group or a dancer not participating in the competition are not refundable. - Organizers have the right to combine categories and age groups, if necessary. - Organizers have the right to use photo and video recordings made at the competition at their discretion. - Judges have the right to change the category or disqualify a composition if all the judges agree that the participant is in the wrong category. - All contestants, teachers, and parents agree that all decisions of the judges are final. 6
STYLE DESCRIPTIONS AND RULES Urban Division STREET DANCE SHOW FORMATIONS A show dance number put together by using various street dance styles. Other styles may be used, but the street style must dominate. The composition must have a theme or an idea. Decorations, props and thematic costumes may be used to narrate the story. Lifts and acrobatic elements are allowed but should not dominate. HIP-HOP FORMATIONS AND SMALL TEAMS A dance composition using primarily hip-hop technique and moves. Street dance styles such as hip-hop, house, vogue, brake, reggae, etc. are suitable. Different styles can be combined or limited to one style in one number. Props and decorations are not allowed. Focus is on technique, synchronization, musicality and rhythm. SOLOS AND DUOS Solo - improvisational, duo - 1 min performance. Organizers music, tempo ranges from 100 to 110 bpm. Focus is on dancer's sense of style, mastering hip hop techniques, variety of movements, musicality, etc. Acrobatic and break dance elements (flips, flac, windmill, etc.) may be performed only with great caution. NB! There is also mini-kids age class in the hip-hop solo category! 7
Contemporary Division BALLET (NEOCLASSICAL) FORMATIONS AND SOLOS A dance composition that uses traditional ballet technique, classical steps and movements, but is less rigid than the classical ballet. For example, dancers often dance at more extreme tempos and perform more technical feats. Spacing and the focus on structure is a defining characteristic of neoclassical ballet. Both pointe shoes and soft ballet shoes are allowed. Classical repertoire is not allowed, only original choreography. CONTEMPORARY, MODERN JAZZ FORMATIONS AND SOLOS (OPEN AGE) An interpretive routine using a contemporary/modern style. Category combines classical dance techniques and modern dance bodywork. Choreography should incorporate balance, control, and extension moves. Distinctive features include contraction-release, floorwork, unexpected direction and speed shifts. The composition must have a theme or an idea. Props and decorations are allowed. Classical dance and acrobatic elements are allowed, but they should not dominate. NB! Solo category is only open age! LYRICAL JAZZ FORMATIONS, SOLOS AND DUOS A dance style that embodies various aspects of ballet, jazz, acrobatics and modern dance. Composition involves the use of balance, flexibility and control utilizing the lyrics and feeling of the music. The focus is on jumps and turns characteristic of jazz dance and classical dance. Props and decorations are allowed. Classical dance and acrobatic elements are allowed, but they should not dominate. 8
Theatre division BROADWAY JAZZ/ SHOW JAZZ FORMATIONS, SOLOS AND DUOS A dance composition featuring various aspects of ballet and jazz. The routine is incorporating dance, characters and costumes into portraying a story from movies, shows, musicals, etc. Using a Broadway or Movie Musical Song is highly recommendable. Acrobatic elements are allowed, but they should not dominate. CHARACTER DANCE FORMATIONS Dances portraying a character throughout the routine. The range of characters is very broad and may include certain stereotype such as a doctor, animal, sailor etc. Category also includes folkloric dances. Costumes, music and dance movements must be appropriate to the character being presented. 9
Acrobatics and disco division ACROBATIC/GYMNASTIC DANCE SOLOS AND DUOS Dance routine using controlled moves such as walkovers, limbers, handstands, chest rolls, etc. May contain gymnastic passes, flexibility and/or contortionist moves. Must contain dance moves, steps and choreography (different styles allowed). Props and decorations are allowed. DISCO DANCE SMALL TEAMS, SOLOS AND DUOS Solo - improvisational, duo - 1:00 min, small team 1:30-2:00 min performance. Organizers music, tempo ranges from 140 to 145 bpm. Dancers must demonstrate speed, strength and body-control, flexibility, technique and versatility. Acrobatic elements are not allowed. NB! There is also mini-kids age class in the disco solo category! 10
Open division ADULTS II FORMATIONS All styles category for dancers 30 years and older. Decorations, props and thematic costumes may be used to narrate the story. PRODUCTION (ALL AGE GROUPS) A comprehensive theatrical presentation, which can include any dance style or a combination of them. The purpose of the routine is to tell a story. Decorations, props and thematic costumes may be used to narrate the story. Maximum length of the dance is 8 minutes (no minimum). The dancers may be from different age classes. 11
