CABLEGRIPS GALVANISED STAINLESS ARAMID FOR QUICK AND EFFICIENT CABLE INSTALLATION AND SUPPORT

CABLEGRIPS FOR QUICK AND EFFICIENT CABLE INSTALLATION AND SUPPORT slingco hand woven cable grips Cable grips - sometimes called cable stockings or cable socks - provide an efficient method of supporting cables. They are re-usable tools (subject to inspection before re-use) and are not confined to cable applications but basically can be used to support or pull any cylindrical object within their grip and load carrying capacity. Slingco standard cable grips are manufactured from high tensile galvanised and stainless steel wire rope or Kevlar. A skilled, hand woven construction process, coupled with individual product inspection throughout manufacture ensures a high quality product for reliable and long lasting application. Slingco offer a free application or safe working practice advice service to assist clients, and will gladly consider any special oversize or new application requirements. warning Please note: Slingco cable grips and grips must not to be used as primary lifting devices. typical applications Overhead house service cables Portable tool supply cables Portable compressed air lines Conduit risers Moveable hydraulic hoses Cable strain relief Oil support cables Marine applications Guy rope adjusters Fibre optic cable applications clients include British Telecom Overhead line stringing contractors Trench cable laying contractors Pipe laying contractors Oil rig operators Winch and lift manufacturers Mining operators Marine/offshore contractors quality assurance Slingco products are manufactured to all relevant national and international standards from high quality materials. The company operates a total quality management system for serial part manufacture and is accredited to ISO9002 continuous quality capability. Slingco cable grips are approved by the National Grid Company plc, British Telecom plc and RJB Mining plc. types and sizes This leaflet offers a wide selection of charts for the various types and sizes of standard cable grip from 10mm to 180mm diameter and 305mm to 1500mm overall length. However, larger diameters and longer lengths can be woven to special order. Apart from our standard range and European range of cable grips, Slingco can manufacture very large, custom made grips including grips with diameters approaching 500mm and breaks exceeding 60 tons (see table enclosed). Lattice dimensions shown in the leaflet are as fitted to a nominal diameter of cable and prior free length may be slightly longer than stated. Our range of cable grips include: SINGLE EYE (S Type) Available in single or double weave. DOUBLE EYE (D Type) Standard support grip, with double eye. Available in single or double weave. LACE UP (L Type) For fitting at points along the length of a cable. OPEN ENDED (O Type ) Grips designed to enable two cables, hoses or ropes to be connected for pulling or supporting purposes. SINGLE EYE, TRIPLE WEAVE (M Type) High strength cable grips with heavy duty shoulders, for stringing or pulling-in noninsulated conductors on long, high voltage transmission lines, or other high load applications. application load capacity Actual break loads (tonnes) are quoted, as a guide only, for cable grips. Application load is normally calculated to be reduced by at least a factor of three times the actual break load. Due to the wide variety of application parameters, the end user must apply a sensible safety factor to suit the safety requirements for the conditions of use. If in any doubt about application or safety, please consult Slingco before using the cable grip or grips in question. pulling applications When the correct cable grip is selected, cable installation through ducts, conduits and trenches is made considerably easier. The cable grip adds little to the overall diameter of the cable and free passage is normally available through sheave blocks and pipes. Cable grips can often be used on a new for old cable replacement by applying two grips on a back-to-back basis with a solid link or swivel in between grips, allowing the old cable to be used to pull through the new replacement. Swivel links can be used to allow for reduced torque

build-up induced by the pulling equipment and inherent lay in the cables themselves. Lace up cable grips can be applied anywhere along the cable length, preventing overloading of the cable. supporting applications The construction and application is the same as for pulling applications except that supporting grips normally stay in place, taking up support strain load. They can be of a single or double weave type according to the load to be supported and can have one or two supporting eyes depending on the available anchor points and the disposition of the load. For supporting cable grips choose from the various types illustrated in the catalogue including lace-up types where needed. Due to the constant load bearing nature of a supporting application, allow for a good factor of safety on capacity and arrange for regular recorded inspection of the cable grip s condition of safety throughout its active life.
