Note from the Director April 2018 2 We have made it through another Wisconsin winter and spring is finally here! The trees and flowers are beginning to come to life, the ball parks are back in action and I am hitting the road with more Lottery Field Marketing Reps (FMRs). I hope you are all as excited as we are to have the Milwaukee Brewers playing ball again. And what would a Brewers game be without the famous Racing Sausages? To honor the sausages we are bringing back the Famous Racing Sausages Instant Scratch Ticket. Oh yeah, going retro baby! That's not the only retro ticket this month. Check out the Vegas Nights ticket as well Cindy Polzin Lottery Director with five games to play and a top prize of $50,000. As I am out traveling around this spring, I look forward to hearing your customers' feedback on these tickets and other Lottery offerings. That's right, I will be continuing my tour around the state with our Lottery's FMRs. As our partners, it is important for me to meet as many retailers as I can, not only to hear about how we are doing but how we can improve things. I have had the privilege of meeting some great retailers already, and I very much look forward to meeting more of you in the weeks and months ahead. So get out and enjoy all that Wisconsin spring has to offer and keep your eye out for me and the traveling Moolas. April 2018 3 Okey's Market 213 W Amelia Street Cassville, WI 53806 Elija Okey, Barb Willis, Tom Okey This month we traveled to Cassville in Grant County. Located in the southwest corner of the state along the Mississippi River, Cassville is a very popular tourist destination. Local attractions include historic Stonefield Village, Nelson Dewey State Park, named after Wisconsin's first Governor, and the Pride of Cassville Car Ferry, the oldest operating ferry in Wisconsin. Our Retailer of the Month, Okey's Market, has deep family roots in Cassville. This third generation family store is currently owned and managed by siblings Tom Okey and Barb Willis. The business was founded in 1933 by their father, Walt Okey. Tom's son, Elijah, is learning the business and following in his father's footsteps. Okey's Market is a full service store with fresh produce, meat, bakery and a deli. They are currently in the process of remodeling the store to make it more energy efficient and bring it up to date. Their homemade deli soups and casseroles are popular for the lunch crowd. Elijah is well known for processing tasty jerky and sausage sticks as well as smoking catfish and salmon, all sold in the store. They also have the largest beer cave in Grant County, which they need when summer tourists arrive. Okey's Market is another Lottery retailer that has been with us for 30 years. They carefully manage their scratch ticket inventory by ordering accordingly for the seasonal tourism fluctuations. The most popular price points for scratch tickets at Okey's are $5 and $20. All price points are available at both the grocery checkout and the liquor department checkout. Players really appreciate the convenience. The store was affected when the town lost the local power plant and the workforce left with it. The remodel helped bring a portion of that back and they are learning innovative ways to bring in business. They have found that using Facebook helped grow their sales. You can find recipes and sign up for their email list on their website cokeysmarket.com Their variety of Lottery tickets and great family service plays a big part too. If you're traveling to the area stop by Okey's Market and don't forget to try some of Elijah's specialty products! Pam Zeimet has been a Lottery FMR in the south-eastern Wisconsin area for over 15 years. She calls on retailers in Crawford, Richland and Lafayette Counties. Cassville is located in the southwestern part of Wisconsin.
