Bring a plate (hot or cold, sweet or savoury) and come along to this important event/social occasion. THE INAUGURAL GOLF CROQUET SCHOOLS COMPETITION HELD AT WOODVILLE CLUB Sunday November 8, 2015. Well what a wonderful event it was! Trish managed to attract 10 school students to start the programme. Apologies and best wishes for a great event were given from Eileen Ferguson (President of SACA), Graeme Thomas (Director Golf Croquet) and members of the SACA Golf Croquet Committee. Age groups were 4 in the 8-10, 4 in 11-12 and 2 Fifteen year olds. Doubles were played. The format ran as follows: 3 x30 min. games on Lawns 1, 2 & 3 with the younger group playing 2 games as a winner and runner up had been determined. Ben & Geoff from the Club filled in to play with the 16 year olds which was great for them all. In the finals the men were not able to run hoops.just hit balls away. Overall winners for the day Ben & Cheyenne, Ethan & Marcus second, Peter & Jayden third, Tyler was Runner up. Cheyenne had not played croquet before this competition. She quickly became a real force and a winner! In the younger group Chris & Wayne won and Kenza & Marissa runners-up. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU ALL. Competitors were given medals. There were lots of laughs, enthusiasm, real competition and some very good shots and tactics. Trish and her helpers cooked a bbq of bacon & egg rolls which helped fill the hungry competitors and spectators. Thanks to Karen & Neil who helped with the refereeing/assistance and special thanks to Trish and her helpers from the Woodville Club who made it such a successful event. We thank Ann Hassall who had a knee operation and couldn t attend this day for her past efforts with the school holiday sports program and Mount Carmel students which has laid the foundation for Woodville s youth initiative. Heather White STOP PRESS: Please note new email addresses on back page for all Croquet SA committees/support personnel. Barry Haydon, Golf Croquet Coaching Coordinator, and his group of helpers have been busy running coaching clinics recently. During November they ran sessions at Meningie, West Lakes, Woodville, Mount Gambier & Millicent. While the formula he uses for conducting the clinics is reasonably flexible, feedback suggests that they are fun to attend and that players benefit a lot from them. Barry says that the sessions are rigorous enough to cover the needs of the majority of groups but hopefully that they are neither too basic nor too advanced. In the recent Interstate Shield matches held in Tasmania, Barry was our No.1 male player. His clinics are always valuable if any club wants a session conducted they should contact Barry at gccoaching@croquetsa.com.au Barry is also happy to run more training sessions for would-be coaches. Contact him about those as well and he will keep you informed when the next session is planned. PROMOTION & DEVELOPMENT I have to apologise to those at Broadview who were upset by my comments last month I m truly sorry I upset you. However, as I hope you realise, I m passionate about croquet its development and sustainability and hate to see clubs close. I can think of half a dozen clubs, city and country, who could close in the next year or so, I d hate that to happen. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Kind Regards Sally Harper KADINA CROQUET CLUB held a very successful gala day on 26 October. There were 25 visiting players from Crystal Brook, Millswood, Moonta, Port Pirie and Wallaroo with players from Kadina making up the numbers. Good Day, We have been developing a group of div 4 beginner players at Norwood. These fledglings are beginning to play Match Games. We are determined to ensure they carry on learning and enjoying the game and with this concept in mind I have taken it upon us to not let them lose their 950 (20) starting index. When they have losses I simply re adjust them back and intend to keep this practice up till they begin winning. I would like to see this practice become standard with all the clubs. The objective in all the clubs constitutions is to promote and implement the sport of croquet so encouraging the beginners is an important first step. Mark Goldsmith, Norwood Croquet Club Note from the President: AC State Handicapper Chris Birdsey supports this action and encourages all Club handicappers to adopt this practice for new players. This would standardise what happens with index points for those on a handicap of 20, so that players in some clubs don t have to claw their way back to 950 points after losing a few games whilst others are automatically readjusted by their Club Handicapper. Club handicappers are reminded that members handicaps should be reviewed regularly and adjusted as appropriate and the State Handicapper needs to be advised of any changes. Chris is happy to answer questions and advise clubs on the handicapping process. Contact him on achandicap@croquetsa.com.au for more information Eileen Ferguson AC COACHING Achievement Pins: These players have recently been awarded Achievement Pins for making breaks in their games: Janet Jordan (Coromandel Valley) B5, Dean Bennett (Millswood) B5 & B7, Ray Walter (Tea Tree Gully) B7 and Ron Mitchell (North Adelaide) B5. Congratulations to all these players. Level 1 Coach: Congratulations also to Dwayne McCormick, who has recently earned accreditation as a Level 1 AC Coach. Dwayne is putting his skills to good use by assisting the AC State Squad with training. Coach Training Courses and Re accreditation Processes These are currently under review by the AC National Coaching Director. Full details are not available at present. I will advise further when I have more information. Eileen Ferguson AC Coaching Coordinator. ACA AC Open Singles Championships Cairnlea Vic Congratulations to Greg Fletcher (South Terrace) and Dwayne McCormick (Norwood) who finished first and second respectively. A fantastic effort and great to see an all SA final Competition entry fees To avoid having large sums of money left at SACA the Board has decided that in future, for team events, Clubs will be sent an account for entry and lawn fees. Clubs are requested to submit entries via the appropriate on-line entry form. For individual and doubles events players are also requested to complete an on-line entry and are encouraged to submit entry fees direct to SACA via bank transfer. Eileen Ferguson SECURITY AT HUTT ROAD Please look after our biggest asset It is the responsibility of all users of Hutt Road to ensure that the clubhouse is alarmed and locked when you leave and the shed and gate are both locked. If you use a key to open the premises you have a responsibility to ensure those remaining when you leave have a key to lock up. It is not pleasant sitting around until someone with a key turns up to secure the premises. For Saturday pennants the first named team on lawn 2 at 2.30pm should ensure they have a key to lock up. Each club has a key allocated. GATEBALL John Park, National Director of Gateball Australia, will be visiting Adelaide to run some introductory sessions so that we can learn about Gateball. He will be available for sessions at individual clubs from 6th to 11th January. Barry Haydon, GC Coaching Coordinator is coordinating his visit. At this stage Barry is looking for Clubs that are interested in hosting a session (presumably in the morning or evening). Sessions would not just be members of your Club but the wider community. It would be good to have a good geographic spread of clubs and hence it would be appreciated if you could contact Barry at gccoaching@croquetsa.com.au or on 0419 424 184 if your Club is interested. (PR material will be provided in due course.) Know the game on www.gateball.com.au. 4
