EVENT GUIDE FOR GOLF SEASON

Transcription:

November has been both a very busy and successful month on our ladies golfing calendar. We have also enjoyed some beautiful rain to help fill the dams and green the course, an outcome that was so desperately needed. We have cheered on the winning horse in the Melbourne Cup while drinking champers on the course, travelled to the delightful Noosa Golf Club at Tewantin for our Annual Bus Trip, enjoyed the pleasure of meeting and listening to our very own Old Golfing Coach Legend Charlie Earp, at the Champions Dinner and wound up our ladies competition fixtures with our traditional Christmas-themed Ambrose events on both Saturday 21st and Tuesday 24 th November. What a fun filled time of the year! MELBOURNE CUP DAY: The busy month of November kicked off with 96 ladies playing in the Irish 4BBB event on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 3 rd November. This event is always very popular with visitors from Wynnum, Keperra, Wantima and Virginia. It was great to see the return of one of our previous members, Belle Gillan from Gordon Vale. The day was a huge success with lots of the golfers getting into the Cup spirit by wearing team colors and by adding a fascinator or hat whilst enjoying an amazing lunch. The wonderful girls who run the sweeps were once again selling up a storm with ladies trying to buy the lucky winners and place-getter tickets. The famous Cent Auction was also well supported by the lady members who donated many wonderful prizes. Diana Wilson, with her super band of helpers who wrapped and displayed the huge array of items, had everyone hanging on the edge of their seats hoping their number would be drawn. Congratulations to all of the trophy winners on the day. BEST DRESSED TEAM WINNERS Wynnum Ladies 4BBB IRISH TEAM WINNERS Gayle Manning, Loretta Whyte, Ros Russell, Cheri Quinn 1

LADIES ANNUAL BUS TRIP: On Sunday, 8 th November in the early hours of the morning (6:00am) 48 Nudgee ladies boarded the bus and headed up the freeway to the Noosa Golf Club at Tewantin to compete in our annual 4Ball Ambrose event. This day is superbly run by Diana Wilson and her amazing team of helpers with many prizes on offer and most of all, a guaranteed fun day out. For any member who has not experienced this wonderful day, I urge you to keep the date free next year and join in. This is a very popular event with all teams trying to win the much sought after Bus Trippers Trophy donated by Amy French. 2015 CHAMPIONS DINNER: On Saturday 7 th November members and their guests who attended this year s Champions Dinner and presentations were treated to a very special evening with Australia s most recognized golf coach Mr. Charlie Earp (OAM). John Downsy our resident Club Professional interviewed Charlie, his good friend of many years, which proved to be both extremely interesting and entertaining listening to his stories which included his time spent with our very own Queensland Legend the great White Shark, Greg Norman. Everyone who attended enjoyed a beautiful 3-course meal and congratulated the successful trophy recipients for 2016. LADIES 4 BALL AMBROSE DAYS: On Saturday 21 st November and Tuesday 24 th November the end of year 4 Ball Ambrose events were held with our ladies once again getting into the Christmas spirit by decorating their golf carts, buggies and themselves with amazing imagination. The Tuesday ladies really go to town with also decorating their lunch tables and by bringing tasty Chrissy treats to share with their playing partners and friends. The golf results for both these days were also spectacular: Winners on Sat 21/11 with a great score of 54.625 were:- Margaret Anderson, Sharon Hickey, Robyn Yeo & Andrea Sparks Runners-Up with another fine score of 55.5 were:- Anne McMillan, Lillian Pittar, Elizabeth McSweeney & Lena Merzliakov Winners on Tues 24/11 with a fab score of 58.625 were:- Karen Noonan, Laraine Meteer, Agnes Polloni & Elizabeth Moran Runners-Up closely behind with a score of 59.125 were:- Frances Nobel, June Ayling, Eslyne Hunter & Betty Kaluschke 3

THURSDAY LADIES 9 HOLE COMP: This competition is tailored to suit ladies who are learning to play golf and wanting to gain experience and the confidence to be able to transition to 18 hole competitions. It is also for those who may be time poor but can manage to fit in a two hour Nine-hole round followed by a cuppa and a chat and also for the ladies who may be finding that 18 holes is becoming a stretch too far. More experienced golfers or a Club Professional are welcome to join the transitioning ladies around the course to be available to answer questions to help develop skills, understanding of rules and to explain golf etiquette. Shannon wishes to advise that this competition is open to members and non-members. There is a trophy fee of $3.00 per player on top of green fees (if applicable). John has kindly offered to establish and manage handicaps for non-members, provide cards and advise the winners. If anyone is interested in joining the Thursday morning Nudgee Nine, please speak to Shannon Marshall or email her via ladiesletsgolf@gmail.com or speak to John in the Pro Shop. This is a wonderful program worth promoting by all of us and if anyone knows of a friend who is wishing to learn to play golf, please pass on these details. The Nudgee Nine has been an exceptional initiative by the Nudgee Ladies Golf Club. We also welcome Paula Thomson as a new Committee member and hope that she will enjoy her experience on Committee in 2016. NEW LADY MEMBERS: On behalf of the Ladies Committee and lady members, we wish to extend a very warm welcome to our two new ladies this month: Margot Callway and Ju Nan Yeong who have joined our friendly club and we hope that they enjoy playing in the many and varied daily competitions available to them. 6

Junior Golf Foundation of Queensland (JGFQ): On Friday 20 th November, Nudgee hosted the annual Junior Golf Foundation of Queensland Presentation night. The event celebrates the successes of Queensland Juniors playing in the foundations tournaments. Amongst the winners was our own Georgia Marshall who won the Fayde Points Challenge Gross for Div 2 Girls and Overall Girls Nett. Congratulations Georgia! Pee Wee Pennants: Our Nudgee Team performed extremely well this year considering their limited on-course time, winning one match and two close results. The kids and caddies thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the innovative competition. We look forward to the 2016 season offering them another year of experience and fun. You may have noticed the Nudgee Futures board outside the Pro Shop. The Nudgee Futures are the children involved in the Junior Program which is based on MyGolf. The Junior Committee is working to develop the juniors involved in the program and we are seeking your help. Please contact Shannon at LadiesLetsGolf@gmail.com if you have any queries in relation to assisting in this fabulous program. Many of our members have been very generously putting their hands in their pockets and paying $5.00 for the chance to WIN $400.00 with $100.00 going to The Nudgee Futures. If you wish to enter the draw and give yourself the chance of walking away with the moola, you may pay your $5.00 entry in the Pro Shop & choose your lucky number. All results will be placed on The Nudgee Futures Board which is located on the wall just outside the Pro Shop. Each draw takes place once the board of 100 names has been filled, so hop in quickly for your chance to win. Congratulations to Suzanne Davis who was the lucky winner of $400 in the most recent draw. Our sincere thanks to McGrath Estate Agents for their continued support and commitment to our Nudgee Futures program. 7
