WELCOME Ladies to the first Newsletter for 2015. The Ladies Committee hopes that you have enjoyed the off season and are ready for the start of fixtures competitions on Tues. 3rd February and Sat. 7 th February. Over the last few months we have experienced some of the hottest and highest humidity days for many years and everyone who has continued to play is to be commended for their efforts. As the saying goes You don t have to be crazy to be a golfer but it sure helps!!!! The course has also taken a beating with extreme dry conditions and then the flooding rains just over a week ago. If you need to get some perspective and have a good old reminisce then click here. Here s hoping that we can all enjoy a relatively un-interrupted 2015 season ahead. J.D S SUMMER GOLF COMPETITIONS: A huge thank you is extended to John Downs and his staff from all the Ladies for once again conducting the Competitions over the summer months. Super congratulations to everyone who picked up any of J.D. s amazing prizes during those events. Special congrats to Ash McCourt who shot a brilliant score of 74 off the stick on Saturday, 17 th January. Her score included a double bogey on the 17 th hole which was a fabulous effort with the markers set back for the Red Marker Day. Brenda Malcolm and the ageless Ethel Stephan will be defending their title for the Summer Foursomes Champions on Saturday, 31 st, trying to make history with a 3-years in a row repeat, the ultimate trifecta. Good Luck to all of the pairs competing to have their names engraved on the wonderful cup supplied by John. J.D. has been sending out newsletter updates keeping us entertained with his interesting and informative commentary on the progress of the top contenders. It looks like the two who are having a great battle at the top are Carmel Mooney who has dashed to the lead ahead of Lillian Pittar. According to John all the big guns aren t far behind so it s going to be an exciting finish after the final results are posted on Saturday. It would be most appreciated if Ladies could stay in the Club after golf and enjoy a cool beverage while final results are determined and the Golfer of Summer Trophy is presented to the victor. NUDGEE OPENING DAY: This Sunday, 1st February is the Opening Day event to raise money for Deaf Services Queensland and is an opportunity for our members and guests to enjoy a team golf event followed by dinner and a chance to win some fantastic prizes from John Downs Monster Raffle. Below are the rules for the golf event (Texas Scramble). A sheet will be provided on the day for each player. Please RSVP as soon as possible if you will be attending the dinner and pay on or before Saturday 31st January. Download the rules for Texas Scramble here
MATCH COMMITTEE: Members of the Match Committee for 2015 are Elizabeth Moran, Suzie Gordon and Gayle Manning. The Match Committee will meet monthly and the Minutes of these meetings will be posted on the Notice Board in the Ladies Locker Room for your information. LADIES COMMITTEE: We are pleased to announce that Heather Rees and Helen Crowther have now joined the Ladies Committee. We welcome them for the coming year and gratefully acknowledge the wealth of experience that each one brings to the Committee for 2015. WELCOME ABOARD Heather and Helen. I m sure that everyone will agree that you will be wonderful. LADIES PENNANTS: Pennant competitions commence in February (Junior Pennants) and April. Nudgee will be fielding 5 teams this year - there will be 1 Gold Team (Division 1), 1 Gold Team (Division 3), 1 Silver Team (Division 2), 1 Bronze Team (Division 3), 1 Weekend Team (Division 2) and a Junior Girls (combined) team with Pacific Golf Club. Our best wishes are extended to Katerina and Georgia Marshall who have stepped up to represent their Club in 2015. Good Luck, girls. If you are interested in playing or caddying for any of these teams, could you please contact the Club Captain, Elizabeth Moran. Even if you are available for only one game, she would love to hear from you. Elizabeth can be contacted through the office (peter@nudgeegolf.com.au) or via her email (emmoran@bigpond.com). Nudgee has always been very fortunate with our wonderful caddies who give their time to support both the players and the club so we urge anyone who will be available (even if only for 1 game) to join in on the camaraderie and gain valuable experience as either a player or a caddy. We are entering an extra team this year and can only hope that you get behind your club and put your hand up to represent with pride. Let s see if we can bring home a couple of flags this year. THURSDAY LADIES 9 HOLE COMP: The following information was presented in the November Newsletter but I thought it would be of interest to add these details again as November seems so long ago. On behalf of the Ladies Committee I am thrilled to advise that Shannon Marshall has in consultation with John Downs, Gary Warburton and Gayle Manning, started a 9 Hole Ladies Competition on Thursdays which was designed to complement the ladies playing a 9 Hole practice round. This competition has been designed to suit the ladies who are learning and wishing to transition into 18 hole comps and who may be hesitant to take up golf due to the time commitment and also for the ladies who may be finding that 18 holes is proving to be too long. It also provides a great opportunity for a Ladies committee member or a Club Professional to escort the transitioning ladies around the course to help develop their skills, their understanding of the rules and to help learn golf etiquette.
Shannon wishes to advise that this competition is open to members and non-members. There is a trophy fee of $3.00 per player on top of green fees (if applicable). John has kindly offered to establish and manage handicaps for non-members, provide cards and advise the winners. At this stage there is no sheet required and any ladies interested can just turn up and choose to play either a practice round or participate in the daily comp. Should the comp prove to be popular in the future a sheet may need to be implemented. If you would like further information, Shannon can be contacted via email at ladiesletsgolf@gmail.com Shannon also advised at the recent AGM that this group of ladies has now increased to 14 and if anyone is interested in joining in on Thursday mornings to please speak to her (email address above) or John in the Pro Shop. This is a wonderful program to be promoted by us all and if anyone knows of a friend who is wishing to learn the amazing game of golf, please pass on these details. The Ladies Committee has fully endorsed Shannon s initiative and congratulates her for implementing this fabulous opportunity at our club. RAFFLE: It was decided by the Committee that the 2014 Raffle format worked so well that it would be repeated in 2015. Tina will have the tickets ready for you to purchase on the first tee on Tues. 3rd Feb. and again on Sat. 7th Feb. at the cost of $25.00 each. Every ticket puts you in the weekly draws until the final draw for the major prizes at the end of the year.
