Breakaway Roping Two head, catch as catch can, open gate, 30 second time limit, one loop only, roper may come out of right or left hand box, contestant must back to the rear of the box. Winner determined by average on two head. Enter in age categories. Team Roping Enter up to two times only, head or heel. Every effort must be made to enter as a team. If you do not have a partner you may still enter and will be placed with a partner! Any partner used to make up a team is not eligible for awards. Time is awarded for stretches only. Open gate, 30 second time limit, one loop only, contestant must back to the rear of the box. No age categories.

All fees and waivers must be paid and signed by a guardian at registration. Fees payable to host club. Registration closes 15 minutes prior to event start time! Record books for project animals entered must be handed in at registration. Minimum requirement as set out by the EC Horse Council. Members without record books may participate but will not receive ribbons/awards. Record books will be returned by the end of the event. Silent Auction. Concession available Saturday and Sunday. Proper attire must be worn for all events and during ribbon/award presentations. Please be present or have arrangements for awards/ribbons to be picked up! Proper attire includes cowboy hat or helmet as per the 4-H Equine Policy, cowboy boots, long sleeved collared shirt. One second penalty for loss of hat, disqualification for loss of helmet while mounted during event. Judge s decision is final! No member or parent shall interfere with or harass a judge, member may be disqualified. Any member grievance must be taken forward by the 4-H club leader/chaperone to the leader representative committee. All grievances must be written and accompanied with a $20.00 fee.
East Central Region 4-H Rodeo Rules - 2018 1. Ribbons, 1-6 place will be awarded in each event. In case of a tie, ties will be awarded ribbons. 2. Ages as of January 1 of current year: Junior 9-11 years; Intermediates 12-14 years, Senior 15-20 years. 3. All members must hand in their current year record book to the rodeo committee for the project horse(s) they are using for the rodeo and a level assessment sheet, signed by their horse project leader at the time of entry payment. Pages 1, 8, 9 must be completed along with the Suggested Marking Guide (inside back cover), completed by your club s Record Book Marker. Record books will be returned by the end of the day. Members without record books can participate in events, but will not receive points. Record books must be up to date the month prior to the rodeo. 4. A member may substitute another horse for their project horse if the member can provide a veterinary certificate or written permission from their 4-H leader. During the rodeo, if a horse becomes lame, the leader representative committee may allow a substitution. 5. Team Roping will be run as one event with no age categories. 6. Each club must have their own chaperone. Each club must also provide one adult to sit on the leader representative committee at each rodeo if necessary. One vote per club. 7. Host club and community is not responsible for injuries. 4-H Incident Report must be completed and filed. 8. All members participating must have read the current East Central 4-H Rodeo Rules. If there is a discrepancy, refer to Policy #6.08 6.09 4-H Alberta Equine Project Policy. 9. All members must wear proper attire including - cowboy hat or helmet, cowboy boots and long sleeved collared shirt when they enter the arena, including one hour before and one hour after the rodeo ribbon presentation. If a violation occurs, points will be forfeited for the rodeo. Adult volunteers are required to wear western attire and closed toed footwear in the arena and behind the chutes. Hats are optional. 10. Members who participate in steer riding must have had instruction in steer riding and provide written proof either with a certificate of completion from the school or a completed and signed assessment sheet from the 4-H Rodeo Project Book (2013 edition) and an up to date record book of any project. 11. Use of an open gate, 30 second time limit and closed gate are all at the discretion of the rodeo for all stock events. 12. Catch as catch can as long as the rope goes over the animal s head. 13. All breakaway ropers may come out of the right or left hand box. 14. If a contestant s hat falls off during barrel racing, pole bending or the keyhole race, a one second penalty will be added to that contestant s time. 15. If a parent or member interferes with or harasses a judge, that member, or the child(ren) of the parent will be disqualified at the discretion of the leader representative committee or host club. 16. Any member taking part in steer riding MUST supply their own equipment: rope, bell, protective vest, approved helmet with face mask, mouth guard, gloves. Chaps are optional. 17. To participate in steer riding, member s maximum weight is 120 pounds OR at the stock contractor s discretion. Members must declare weight at entry. 18. Clubs may have events for Cleaver Kids before or after the rodeo - at their discretion. 19. Turn out fee (entry fee) must be paid prior to competing in the next rodeo. 20. Any member grievance must be taken forward by the 4-H club leader/chaperone to the leader representative committee. All grievances must be written and be accompanied with a $20 fee. 21. No run ins allowed. 22. All animals must be treated humanely at all times. This includes proper care and handling.
Disqualification of any participant using an animal that is obviously sore, lame, or injured in any way. Disqualification and/or removal from an event or the entire rodeo, of any person who is abusive to any animal. All animals prior to the event are in good health and are sound. Disqualification or removal of any participant from the event if they are not in control of the animal used, or show incompetence in the event. The participant and animal may compete in subsequent events. 23. Closed and latched gate for all speed events. Point System Points and awards/prizes are awarded at the discretion of the event organizers based on the event details.
