Volume 1 Issue 2 April 2017 Marsden Friends of Football Our Purpose: To Grow Football at Marsden and develop the infrastructure and practices to ensure depth and a competitive edge at all levels of the game. Director of Sport, Eliott Brookes on MFOF Values Sport has so many positives but, no matter what level you are playing it all comes down to the enjoyment factor. Sport is not just about winning, in fact you will learn more from losing than winning all the time. Sport gives you many different life skills like personal development, creating new friendships, and resilience to name a few. As part of a team you need three key attributes, commitment, enthusiasm and motivation. Commitment - there is no I in team! Making sure you are at all trainings so the team can replicate match situations is very important. You get to know your team members and understand how each individual in the team plays the game. Becoming friends and learning to communicate during training sessions helps communication during games and gives you the desire to do well for your friends in the team. Enthusiasm - being enthusiastic about what you are doing helps lift everyone around you and encourages positivity in all situations. Enthusiasm helps when times are tough and helps you believe anything is possible! For senior members of a team this is very important. Junior members look to you for everything and if your head is down, you can guarantee theirs will be too. Motivation - if you re not motivated then why are you playing? This is a question for all members of any sports team. If you re not motivated in an individual sport then you are only letting yourself down but, in a team environment you are not only letting yourself down but all your team members as well as the many volunteer s, coaches and managers that have spent hours of time helping your team and you Review of Football Trials
2 Head of Football 2017 Caroline Enright Caroline.engright@marsden.school.nz Trials were held on the 19th and 22nd of March and resulted in a record breaking turn out. It was fantastic to see such a large increase in participation among both juniors and seniors. As a result we have a 1 st and 2 nd XI senior team and also a Junior A squad of 26 players. The intention of the large squad is to allow for greater development in players and an overall stronger team. Along with this the 1st XI line up was named with both returning and new members along with a large number of 2nd XI players. All three Futsal teams (Junior A, Senior A and Senior B) have shown tremendous improvements from when the season first began. As the Head of Futsal, I have witnessed the hard work that girls have put into training and I am very proud of the results. The Junior Futsal team played in a challenging division for the season and they had been progressing well with each game. They learnt how to adapt to different styles of play and won their last three games. Senior A played in a very difficult division with the 1 st XI Football players competing against each other. The girls learnt a lot about how to defend and beat teams on the counter attack. Senior B improved each week. They worked well as a team and understood how to adapt under pressure. I am looking forward to Term 4 and seeing the girls continue to perform. Marsden FOF joins forces with Karori Swifts Talent Centre Update In term one the Swifts coaching team have been running Football in Schools in PE. This programme has been run with years 3 to 9 and it has been a huge
4 success, teaching the basic fundamentals of Football and planting the seed to create Footballing Greatness. The programme has been so successful we have 26 junior Football players and 2 senior teams this year, which means we have 24 more Footballers that last year. The programme is only in the early stages and I am confident we will see some marked improvements at Marsden Football not only this year but in the years to come due to the partnership with Swifts. http://marsdensport.school.nz/swifts-talent-centre How is MFOF funded?
